America’s Got Talent: Olympian Shevon Nieto’s Emotional Tribute (Video)

America's Got Talent 2020 Shevon Nieto

The America’s Got Talent set got REAL quiet after producers banished the audience due to coronavirus concerns. Judges Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel were once again joined by Sofia Vergara’s pal, Eric Stonestreet. Sofia’s fellow Modern Family actor continued to sit in for an ailing Heidi Klum.

In this new preview, two time Olympic runner, Shevon Nieto sings an emotional original song for the judges. The 37 year old retired from running in 2016 after her boyfriend suffered serious injuries in a jumping accident that left the Olympic high jumper paralyzed from the chest down.

Shevon competed in the 2004 and 2008 Olympic games. In 2016, her boyfriend Jaime’s foot slipped while he was coaching Olympic athletes. At the time, she was gearing up for her third Olympic games. But after his accident, she decided to retire.

In the meantime, Shevon found comfort in songwriting and singing. Jaime suggested she audition for AGT. In front of only the judges and the crew, she sings a “special song” she wrote for Jaime called “The Good and the Bad.” I have a feeling that even with an audience, the room would have remained silent after that performance.

America’s Got Talent airs on NBC Tuesdays at 8 pm ET/PT.
