America’s Got Talent 2019 FINALE performances aired Tuesday (Sept 17) night. Ten acts performed for the judges, Howie Mandel, Gabrielle Union, Julianne Hough and Simon Cowell. Only ONE acts will win America’s Got Talent after America’s vote. The results will be revealed on Wednesday’s (Sept 18) Grand Finale at 8 PM on NBC.

Unlike the last couple of seasons, I don’t have a favorite this year. I’m not at all invested in who wins this thing. Having said that, I think, after last night’s performance, Kodi Lee has a very good shot at winning the season. I have misgivings about that. If I had listened to one of Kodi’s performances without knowing anything about him, I would not be impressed. His popularity seems to be more about his disabilities than his actual talent. Oops. That is probably not a popular opinion, but there you go. He’s an autistic individual who is also a music savant, which isn’t an unusual concept, actually. It just all feels too “Queen for a Day” to me (Ancient reference! Kiddos look that up on Youtube).
Not that I’ll be angry or anything like that if he wins. Like I said, I’m not really invested in a winner this season. If Kodi wins, he’ll bring some good to the world with his elevated platform.
Also, there were TOO MANY kids in the finals. More than half the acts were teens or younger. It’s a personal preference–I’d rather watch adults perform. Generally, I feel kids should be in school or outside playing rather than pursuing showbiz careers. Nearly every kid isn’t fully ready to take the stage. “Underbaked” is a word that I use a lot in reference to the kid performers. Benicio Bryant is the most talented and ready of this year’s crop of kid singers, and even he could have used a couple more years to marinate.
