Back in July, MacKenzie Bourg announced the upcoming release of a long-awaited single. Finally, “Lost and Found” is here.

On MacKenzie’s Facebook, the American Idol season 14 4th place finisher asked fans to help him get the song to #1 on the iTunes Singer Songwriter chart. By the morning of the song’s release (Oct 20) MacKenzie’s wish came to pass.

Describing the song on another Facebook post, MacKenzie shared: “To me it sounds like it could be on one of Charlie’s mixtapes from [the movie] Perks of Being a Wallflower. It’s kind of got an infinite feeling to me. Hope it’s as special for you as it is for me.”

“To me ‘Lost & Found’ is the perfect jump off point for all the music that’s going to follow it,” the singer shared with Billboard magazine. “I think it sets the bar to show fans that everything I’ve done in the past year has been for the music, and the quality will show not only in ‘Lost & Found,’ but in the album I release and the sound of the songs live when I begin to tour.”

“It’s crazy to think about how many songs were written and recorded until getting to this point where I’ve finally felt ready to release this song,” MacKenzie confessed in a recent interview with Pop Star Online. “This is my favorite song I’ve ever done so I’m really nervous because I want everyone to feel as good about it as me.

As far as what inspired the song, the singer told Pop Star: “I was in a weird place emotionally for a while, and met the girl of my dreams on accident. I feel like in a lot of places in anyone’s life, you find yourself in the Lost and Found and find someone or something that gets you out of it when you never saw yourself escaping what you were going through.”
