American Idol finalist Catie Turner proves that old adage that bathrooms offer the best acoustics, as she performs an original song “Pity” in her tiny hotel washroom for a Youtube video. “Tour rehearsal life is crazy!” reads the title card before we see a smiling Catie sitting on the floor, acoustic guitar in hand.
And once again, the singer, who finished in the Top 7 on this year’s ABC Idol reboot, proves that she is a songwriting talent to be reckoned with. Although Catie makes sure to mention the lyrics are about ONE guy she knows, and Not All Men, the words serve as a perfect description of toxic masculinity in general.
Catie posted all the lyrics on Youtube, but here’s a snip.
Your masculinity is so fragile I could break you with a tap
The only time ill get on my knees for you is to sweep up your fragments like glass
It’s a pity your mother has to see you like this
And it’s a pity any form of criticism gets you pissed
It’s a pity you have an insufferable god complex
It’s a pity
Not only is Catie a clever lyricist, but she knows her way around a catchy melody. At the VERY LEAST somebody’s gotta serve up a publishing deal for this woman.
The tour of which she speaks is American Idol Live! featuring Catie and her fellow Top 7 contestants, including winner Maddie Poppe, runner-up Caleb Lee Hutchinson, Gabby Barrett, Cade Foehner, Michael J. Woodard and Jurnee. Season 8 winner Kris Allen is also along for the ride. Tour kicks off on July 11.
