American Idol Top 8 – Predictions, Poll Results, iTunes Rankings

AMERICAN IDOL XIII: C.J. Harris performs on AMERICAN IDOL XIII airing Wednesday, April 2 (8:00-10:00 PM ET / PT) on FOX. CR: Michael Becker / FOX. Copyright 2014 / FOX Broadcasting.

Last week, the contestants couldn’t even crack the iTunes Top 200. This week, 3 managed to do it, with 5 hitting the Top 400.  The original song by Alex Preston was far and away the most popular song to download. But, I have to wonder at this point, if this group will ever release a show hit.  Even X Factor managed a #1 with their winners, Alex & Sierra.

iTunes Top 400 as of 12:45 PM

#36 – Fairytales by Alex Preston
#108 – Lego House by Sam Woolf
#119 – Blue-Eyed Lie by Jessica Meuse
#214 – Rolling in the Deep by Jena Irene
#302 – One Mississippi – by Dexter Roberts

Jena Irene wins the favorite performance poll (Y’all liked that more than I did) with Jessica Meuse right behind her (my personal fav of the night). Alex Preston may have won the iTunes prize, but here on the blog, he comes in at 3rd place!  I’m a little surprised Caleb Johnson came in at only #6, behind Sam Woolf and Malaya Watson.

Favorite Top 8 Solo Performance

  1. Jena Irene – Rolling in the Deep 26.63%
  2. Jessica Meuse – Blue Eyed Lie 23.68%
  3. Alex Preston – Fairytales 18.61%
  4. Malaya Watson – Ain’t No Way 7.83%
  5. Sam Woolf – Lego House 7.52%
  6. Caleb Johnson – Chain of Fools 7.33%
  7. Dexter Roberts – One Mississippi 6.2%
  8. CJ Harris – Soul Shine 2.19%

Favorite Top 8 Duet Performance

Jena Irene and Alex Preston squeak past Jessica Meuse and Caleb Johnson!  Both were great performances, but I’d give it to Jena and Alex, just because they put an original spin on the performance.  I would have put Sam Woolf and Malaya Watson dead last. That performance was awful in every way possible.

  1. Jena Irene and Alex Preston – Just Give Me a Reason 46.32% (648 votes)
  2. Jessica Meuse and Caleb Johnson – Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around 45.25% (633 votes)
  3. Sam Woolf and Malaya Watson – Lucky 6.65% (93 votes)
  4. CJ Harris and Dexter Roberts – Alright 2% (25 votes)

The result is decisive.  An overwhelming 60% of you believe it’s time for CJ Harris to go home. I agree with you. The dude sings with so much heart, but he’s gone as far as he can vocally in this competition.  I feel the same way about Sam Woolf.  He’s not going to grow any more in this contest. The connection problem he has isn’t going to be solved in a couple of weeks.  He needs to leave before the others.

Who SHOULD Go Home?

  1. CJ Harris 60.39%
  2. Dexter Roberts 11.94%
  3. Sam Woolf 10.88%
  4. Malaya Watson 6.11%
  5. Caleb Johnson 2.81%
  6. Jessica Meuse 2.74%
  7. Alex Preston 2.6%
  8. Jena Irene 2.53%

Who WILL Go Home?

Even more of you think CJ Harris will go home! He captured almost a third of the vote!  I agree. I think his time has come. And, at this point, with only two weeks left for the save, I think the judges would save anybody BUT CJ.  Sam Woolf is second. But I don’t know…there’s a sentimental attachment to “Lego House” that may save him from the B3 this week.  Dexter Roberts pulled some major heart strings this and probably saved himself too. There COULD be a shock B3 appearance this week.

  1. CJ Harris 67.63%
  2. Sam Woolf 11.33%
  3. Dexter Roberts 6.59%
  4. Malaya Watson 5.56%
  5. Caleb Johnson 2.59%
  6. Jessica Meuse 2.44%
  7. Alex Preston 2%
  8. Jena Irene 1.85%

Was the Audition Theme a Good Idea?

There was a lot of concern expressed after the Audition theme was announced next week. But our poll shows that most of you came around to liking it. A solid night of performances certainly helps!

  1. Yes – I loved hearing the songs again! 75.07%
  2. No – Would have preferred new songs 24.93%

Prediction:

Bottom 3:  CJ Harris – Who will join him? Anybody other than Alex Preston or Jessica Meuse could end up in the bottom! But if I had to choose, I’ll pick Malaya Watson and Sam Woolf. CJ Harris will get the lowest number of votes. The judges WILL NOT save him.
