The American Idol Summer Tour is No More

Billboard has confirmed what American Idol fans already knew, that the annual summer tour has been canned for the 15th and final season. CORE media the company that owns 19 Entertainment sent the publication a statement:

The American Idol Live Tour has historically been an integral part of celebrating the seasons’ contestants and also garnering excitement for summer auditions for the upcoming season. This year’s Idol finale celebrates the past 15 seasons, the amazingly talented participants, and the millions of fans who’ve helped make American Idol the legendary program and brand it is today. It will be so memorable and meaningful and we’ve chosen to end it on that note.

Translation: There is no tour because it does not make us money. Do you think for a minute, if that tour was profitable, they wouldn’t have those kids out on one last gigantic FAREWELL TOUR! They certainly would. I feel bad for the contestants. On the weekly reporters eliminated contestant satellite interview, every single one has expressed sadness over leaving behind friends. For many, it’s the worst part of being eliminated.

In prior seasons, the finale wasn’t the end. It was the beginning of touring the country with good pals, singing songs for huge crowds sans judges critiques, and finally making a substantial payday. Now, they get eliminated and head home. Probably back to their day job. It must feel terribly anti-climatic.

When July rolls around and there is no tour, it’s going to feel SO WEIRD. I LOVED LOVED LOVED the big cheesy summer tour. I’m going to miss it so much. Summer without the tour and auditions. Spoilers leaking. Constant “reports” of who is in and who is out as far as judges, producers and staff.

The only thing left will be the memories. Damn.
