WHEW! ABC is likely breathing a sigh of relief as American Idol is off to a solid ratings start. Sunday night’s premiere garnered a 2.3 rating, which exceeds the network’s guarantees to advertisers. If the ratings stay fairly steady over the course of the season, Idol will live to see another day.
The show “matched expectations for the current ratings climate and gave ABC a big upgrade from 8-10 p.m. “Idol’s” 2.3 rating among adults 18-49 was on par with the show’s 2016 average on FOX and more than double what “America’s Funniest Home Videos” and “Shark Tank.” Also, it easily won the night for ABC.
On the down side, the premiere rating was the lowest ever for the show (Season 15 premiered with a 3.0 rating).
