The American Idol rumor mill continues to churn. I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING. Wait what? Idol bid farewell a year ago! Anyway. More cast rumors from Variety, which is a more reliable source than either TMZ or US.
First of all, the magazine’s sources say “the Season 5 graduate has not been contacted as of yet.” So, it looks like the Chris Daughtry rumor has been busted. But there’s more. That Chris Martin rumor that floated around the British rags over the weekend? The one I didn’t even bother to post? Also false. No kidding.
HOWEVER, sources tell Variety that a deal with Ryan Seacrest to return as series host is nearly a done deal. Trish Kinane is set to return as showrunner for Fremantlemedia. According to Variety, season 4 winner Carrie Underwood has held talks with ABC and producers about joining the American Idol judges panel. In addition, Adam Lambert’s name (season 8) has “been in the mix for a potential role, sources confirm.”
However there are a few American Idol alums being considered to perform at tomorrow mornings advertiser upfront in New York City. The list includes Chris Daughtry (S5), Kellie Pickler (S6), Adam Lambert (S8) and Fantasia Barrino (S3 winner).
Also, pop star Katy Perry is reportedly in active discussions to join the show. ABC had talks with Kelly Clarkson, but she decided to join season 14 of The Voice as coach instead.
