American Idol Ratings Win The Night, Lower than Average

Via Zap2it.com:

American Idol’s Top 8 boys carried the 9 pm time slot last night, but with ratings that were lower than average. Check out the deets here:

9 p.m.

FOX: “American Idol” (20.5 million, 11.7/19)
CBS: “Criminal Minds” (13.1 million, 8.1/13)
ABC: “Modern Family” (8.95 million, 5.5/9)/”Cougar Town” (6.15 million, 3.9/6)
NBC: “Law & Order: SVU” rerun (5.4 million, 3.6/6)
The CW: “America’s Next Top Model” (3.3 million, 2.2/4)/”High Society” premiere (1.4 million, 1.0/2)

The 9 pm timeslot may have contributed to the lower numbers. We’ll see how things shake out when Idol settles in to it’s regular schedule once the Top 12 begins.

  1. It might be the 9pm slot, I agree. As the audience is accustomed to Idol being on Tuesday nights at 8pm and results on Wednesdays. Now Idol is spread out over 3 nights.
With these semifinals, the schedule has change. I think the numbers might go up after the Top 12 are selelected and Idol is on Tuesday and Wednesday. As I wonder what the Thursday results have been ratings wise as people are not used ot results being on a Thursday.

  2. Maybe people are turning off. If the Rolling Stone Top 12 is another snoozefest I can see the ratings continue to decline.

  3. I’ll be interested to see what happens when it’s in it’s regular time slot and after the top 12. I think that will be most telling.

  4. It wouldn’t surprise me if part of the problem is the 9pm timeslot for the show. Moving it around from 8pm one night to 9pm the next night can be confusing for viewers and hard for them to keep up especially if they are really interested in the competition. I think maybe the true test will be once the top 12 are revealed tonight how that will play into the ratings in the next few weeks.

  5. I haven’t been into the show at all, and I have been watching religiously since season 1. I have never missed more than one episode each season. This year I’ve started going to the gym on Tuesday and Wednesdays, in years past I would schedule my activities around idol. It’s just not the same show anymore. Too many judges. Too many bad judges, and too many boring sound alike singers. Also I miss Paula and the dynamic of the others is just off. Of course the time slot is a factor in the ratings I am sure, but time will tell.

  6. only a few interesting and talented contestants this year and they just cut off Lilly and Alex! Arrgh…
