American Idol Ratings Tick Up

American Idol was the #1 show in the 18-49 demo last night, beating criminal minds. Granted, when when Modern Family comes back from hiatus, it will probably take over. But still. FYI, American Idol, the Wednesday and Thursday editions, shared the #3 spot with NCIS on last week’s list of Top Primetime TV shows. Big Bang Theory and Modern Family were in re-runs, but if they were in full force, it’s unlikely Idol would have been pushed out of the Top 10.

American Idol is probably really expensive to produce. Nevertheless, it’s difficult to understand cancelling a show that continues to bring in solid ratings, especially against the rest of FOX’s weak slate. Maybe if the rest of the season plays out well ratings wise, the network will rest it for a year or two before bringing it back. The X Files reboot so far is doing VERY well in the ratings, garnering a 3.2 in the 18-49 demo for its regular timeslot debut on Monday.

Last night’s numbers ticked up 1/10th of a point from last Wednesday’s and Thursday’s editions.
