AMERICAN IDOL ONLINE AUDITIONS

American Idol | MySpace Video

MEGA Show Preview: 13, A New Musical
MEGA Show Preview: 13, A New Musical

UPDATE: You have to go through the audition process to get the song list.  It pops up at step 3 when you go through the sign-up process at My Space. So, I entered a bunch of fake information and got the song list for auditioners.

And, its full of the usual suspects.  Lots of  retro tunes.  I spot a few 90’s era tunes, but not really seeing anything current on the list.  Check it after the jump.

Yes. The Online auditions are going to happen. Check out the deets below:

In celebration of AMERICAN IDOL’s 10th anniversary season, the No. 1 show on television is offering aspiring singers an additional opportunity to have their voices heard. 19 Entertainment, FremantleMedia North America and FOX have partnered with MySpace to revolutionize the show’s audition process. Beginning today through October 6, hopefuls between the ages of 15 and 28 will have the opportunity to submit an audition video exclusively on MySpace at www.myspace.com/americanidol.

Entrants should demonstrate their stellar singing ability by performing one of the songs from the approved list a cappella. Videos are limited to 40 seconds in length, and are limited to one submission per person. Auditions will be judged in a similar fashion to the live audition cities and a select number will advance to the next round of callbacks in Los Angeles. Visit www.myspace.com/americanidol for more information, the song list and the full terms and conditions of the video submission process. Fans will be able to share the videos across various networks and watch highlights in a special gallery on the MySpace page.

  1. Ha. I totally just commented on the Headlines thread that youtube auditioners may not fare as well on AI as they do on AGT based on the trajectory of Von Smith and Andrew Garcia… but I guess AI is giving it a go. With this, and the added LA audition, combined with the apparently high turnout at the audition cities, I’m wondering if AI is looking for some REALLY specific types that it didn’t quite find in the regular auditions… Hmmm…

  2. Anyone know what’s the song on the preapproved list? I tried looking or it on the Myspace website, however it looks like you have to sign up to audition to access the list. And I’m way too old.

  3. Entrants should demonstrate their stellar singing ability by performing one of the songs from the approved list a cappella.

FINALLY! They finally come out and say they’re looking at “singing ability” first and foremost. When was the last time they stated that clearly with regard to American Idol? How many dreadful contestants could we have been spared of if the producers stuck to that mandate?

MJ, where’s that list for us to pore over for clues about what they’re looking for? You’re slacking off! ;-)

  4. So, I entered a bunch of fake information and got the song list for auditioners.

THANK you! This really is a full-service website you’re running here, MJ!

Achy Breaky Heart – Billy Ray Cyrus

For realz? Good Lord, what are the people making these decisions smoking these days? Or is that just a softball for the wackjobs out there?

  5. LOL, that song list.

I would like to see someone do this one:
Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Crash Test Dummies

    Hee.

  6. LOL, BootStar, Achy Breaky Heart is one of the other ones that cracked me up. Really? You want someone to audition with *that*?

  7. I would like to see someone do this one:
Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Crash Test Dummies

I thought the same thing. lol.

  8. I love that Crash Test Dummies song. I own it! :-)

And that Twisted Sister song is a good choice too!

  9. I’d like to see someone try and make something out of Safety Dance. But really, how is that even seriously possible?

  10. Yeah, a lot of oldies and other songs cleared because of label ties and apparitions on the show.
Only two names I was kind of surprised to see is Madonna who has never cleared her songs for any reality show and Peter Frampton.

I’m still hoping that TPTB can refresh the song lists for the show maybee with their new partnership with Universal?
It’s necesssary for my enjoyment of the show.

  11. Achy Breaky Heart – Billy Ray Cyrus, and the lack of anything else
on the list suggests that those at AI continue to struggle with the concept of Country music, despite them having some of their biggest post show successes with these people.

  12. It totally figures that DAUGHTRY has a song on the list, and there are no other AI finalist/winner’s songs on the list, either!

So true. Why they don’t focus a bit more on singers in a genre that seems to be much healthier than the rest of the industry is beyond me. Again, at the risk of sounding like a xenophobe, I’m glad that we’ll have a panel of American judges who can appreciate distinctly American genres of music. Hopefully, it will be one of the more positive changes to Season 10.

  14. OMG that list is tragic!

I wonder how many times Home will be butchered *shudder*

    ….wait, people still use myspace?

    LOL, maybe they approached Idol.

Kiss a Girl is on there as well, but definitely a cross over into pop/rock.

  16. ri:
they can’t be serious with this list. it’s just comical.

They’re serious all right…serious about having contestants sing songs most recognizable by the 50+ crowd.

    ….wait, people still use myspace?

    LOL, maybe they approached Idol.

    More likely they PAID Idol.

  17. The song list might be crappy but this is Idol’s first and only good idea. This is prob. a better way to hold auditions than live ones in terms of screening for potential contestants. It could really help a good singer not get missed since obv. the producers used to just push people through and out super quickly. This way they can make a video which shows singing and personality at one time to demonstrate they’ve got the goods.

  18. Safety dance was covered by Artie on glee. Nothing wrong with the cover. Glee is sooooooooooooooooooooooo much better than AI. Rachel Berry would submit an audition tape for this. I am such a gleek.

  19. Okay, since I can’t go to the LA auditions, this is pretty tempting, but the song list isn’t all that great. I actually only know enough of 2 songs there to sing 40 seconds of, and they’re both TOTALLY different: “And I Am Telling You” and “Kryptonite”. And if I did “And I Am Telling You”, I’d have to change the gender since I’m a straight guy, and I dunno how they’d feel about that. I remember Glee auditions they had to be exactly as the lyrics said. Here, not so sure.

Kryptonite doesn’t seem like it would be a good choice a cappella, and I’d need a complete refresher.

I might listen to this Screaming Infidelities song just because the song title sounds like something I’d probably sing…..

After listening to a few seconds of Screaming Infidelities, it actually kinda does, but the name sounds so hard and heavy compared to the song itself.

…..Yeah, with this song list, I don’t think that’s gonna happen. They keep teasing me. San Francisco audition, OOPS illness and work. They try to make it up by adding a day in LA, OOPS major school. So they know I can’t do either so they do Myspace auditions, OOPS we choose songs you don’t know.

Well, I was gonna take a year to improve my voice, since it’s not quite there anyway. There’s one song I absolutely HAVE to sing (although I do have extreme doubt the producers would clear it). I can hit the notes for the most part, but not very well, my voice would probably be really strainy.
