Despite all the preparations in place for this week’s big American Idol series finale, eliminated American Idol 15 contestant MacKenzie Bourg is out on the east coast this morning performing his original song “Roses” for Live with Kelly and Michael.
The song “Roses” would have been the singer’s coronation single if he had made it to the finale. All is not lost–MacKenzie is releasing the fan-favorite song on iTunes very very soon. Apparently, he’s already been in the studio to record the tune.
The American Idol three part series finale airs on FOX Tuesday April 5, Wednesday April 6 and Thursday April 7 at 8/7 pm.

MacKenzie was originally to sing his version of “All About the Bass” for Top 3 homecoming pick, but after his Top 4 performances were poorly received by the judges, he chose “Hallelujah,” what he considered a “goodbye” song instead. Once again, MacKenzie extols the virtues of Idol over The Voice.
