American Idol Live Tour Is Returning! Set for Summer 2018

AMERICAN IDOL - "109 (Top 24 Solos)" - As the pool has been narrowed to the top 24 contestants,12 of the top 24 finalists perform solos at Academy LA in Hollywood during this week in the competition, as the search for AmericaÕs next superstar continues on its new home on AmericaÕs network, The ABC Television Network, SUNDAY, APRIL 8 (8:00-10:00 p.m. EDT). Not only has American Idol returned to television on ABC, but it appears that the American Idol Live tour is back.

There’s a venue in California advertising a date. American Idol Live 2018 is scheduled for July 27 at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga California. The open air theater seats about 2,500 and features mostly legacy acts. Some of the artists performing this summer: Chris Isaak, Tom Jones, The Monkees, Barenaked Ladies and more.

The American Idol Live tour was a losing proposition during the last few seasons of the show. The season 14 tour in 2015 only featured the Top 5 and basically played club dates. It was a far cry from the multiple night arenas the season 5 tour played. The summer tour was skipped altogether after American Idol’s final season on FOX in 2016

Because the tour had become a losing proposition, I didn’t think American Idol Live would make a return this season. I’m not sure why CORE Media believes the concert will suddenly turn into a money making venture. The ratings for the show haven’t improved. I thought maybe a residency at a Disney property was possible, but not a full blown tour.

The folks at @IdolSpoilers report that tickets will go on sale May 1. But tickets are available for purchase now at the Mountain Winery. The prices range from $49.50 – $99.50. Hm. I wonder if VIP will be available?

It’s unknown at this time how long the tour will run and how many finalists will be included. Will the entire Top 10 be invited? Or just the Top 5 or even fewer? We’ll be reporting the details as soon as they become available.
