“Well…The rumors are TRUE TRUE TRUE!! I am the official singer of Quiet Riot!!!!!” writes James Durbin on his Facebook page.
Rumors that the American Idol season 10 singer had joined the metal band, Quiet Riot have been swirling for a few days.
Quiet Riot drummer Frankie Banali told German magazine Rocks that the band split with Seann Nicols after only five shows and replaced him with their first choice, James.
Seann did “a great job” on the band’s upcoming album, Road Rage, but “artistic and personal” differences ultimately forced them to part ways. “We had to make the best decision for Quiet Riot,” Banali told the magazine. “If there are problems so early in the cooperation, it’s better to pull the emergency brake.”
James recently collaborated with Quiet Riot guitarist Alex Grossi on the Maps To The Hollywood Scars EP. “When I wrote the material for Road Rage with my songwriting partner Neil Citron, James was my [number one pick to sing on the record],” Banali reportedly said. “Because he had other commitments, I had to look for a replacement, and Seann Nichols was third on my candidate list. Of course, I would have preferred James to have [laid down the vocals] on Road Rage, but you can only work with people who are available [at the time].”
American Idol alum fronting legacy bands is becoming a thing. American Idol season 8 runner-up, Adam Lambert fronts the legendary Queen, Season 4 runner-up Bo Bice sings lead for the 60’s rock/soul outfit Blood Sweat & Tears and now James Durbin has joined 80’s metal band Quiet Riot. It sounds like a dream come true for the Santa Cruz singer. Congrats to him.
James will be out on tour with the band beginning March 18 in Wichita Kansas. Click for full schedule.
