American Idol 2021 Hollywood rounds kick off on Sunday with “Genre Challenge.” The singers will perform for the judges, Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan, alongside artists who fit in the same lane.

Bobby Bones, free of scheduling conflicts, finally joins the show to mentor the young hopeful contestants. In this new preview, Chayce Beckham shares with Bobby how out of place he feels in the country genre. Because, really, his sound is more Americana or Folk. But the show has to shoehorn him in somewhere!

Also, Chayce shares more about his difficult year. Alcohol abuse led him back to his parents home in Apple Valley, California. The singer also describes how drinking and driving led to a terrible car accident that nearly killed him. Chayce finally hit bottom and got sober.

Now, the heavy truck operator is chasing his dream to be a full time singer, songwriter and musician. In his audition, Chayce impressed the judges with a  performance of “What Brings Life Also Kills” by Kolton Moore and the Clever Few. (Watch HERE). Now, in Hollywood, Chayce sings Hard Times by Tyler Childers.

Chayce has been on a “rough, rocky road.” He’s experienced a lot of ups and downs, a lot of hard times, and struggled “pulling himself out of a place he didn’t want to be in.” Now, Chayce has made it to Hollywood Week on American Idol and it’s “all or nothing” for him.  If the judges approve, Chayce will move on to Monday’s (March 22) Duets round.
