American Idol Exit Song! David Cook Covers “Don’t You Forget About Me” (Listen to THE FULL VERSION!)

We speculated it could happen, and it has. David Cook has recorded Season 10’s boot song!  It’s a cover of the Simple Minds classic, “Don’t You Forget About Me”.  The Hollywood Reporter has the deets:

American Idol is about to undergo its first audience-determined eliminations of Season 10, and starting next week, the show will have a new exit song as former hopefuls bid farewell to the competition. This year’s soundtrack to dreams cut short? The Simple Minds classic “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” sung by Idol’s own David Cook.

The Season 7 winner’s reverential version of the 1985 hit, which was also the de facto theme song to the movie The Breakfast Club, was recorded in February and chosen by Idol creator and executive producer Simon Fuller. Fans who preorder Cook’s forthcoming second album can access the track for free starting Thursday via DavidCookOfficial.com. It will also be available for sale on iTunes and other digital retailers March 8.

Congrats David!  THR reports that David has a writing credit on each of the songs on his upcoming album, set to be  released later this spring.

Entertainment Weekly confirms David will perform on Idol twice this season!
