American Idol season 7 winner David Cook made his big Broadway debut Tuesday night (April 3) as he stepped into the lead role of Charlie in the musical Kinky Boots. The singer posted an Instagram photo featuring his first ever curtain call alongside star Wayne Brady.
“Such an amazing, surreal experience!” wrote David, “Thank you to everyone in the audience, the cast and crew, and all you social media folks for the kindness! My only complaint is that @mrbradybaby outdressed me. Again. I can’t be sure, but I think he did it on purpose.”
Brady posted his own message of congratulations to his new costar, “Congrats to @thedavidcook on his broadway debut as Charlie in @KinkyBootsBway,” he wrote while also bidding a fond farewell to Scissor Sister Jake Shears, whom David is replacing, “and a warm farewell to @Jakeshears! Getting to tell this story every night is medicine for my soul and I’m fortunate to have such an amazing storytelling family over at “The Factory”!”
David’s turn as Charlie in Kinky Boots at the Hirshfield Theater runs through May 5. ETA: A ton of photos are posted over at BroadwayWorld.com
