‘This is my chance, right here:’ ‘American Idol’ holds auditions in Mobile – Anticipation ran high Tuesday as hundreds of hopeful vocal stars lined up for “American Idol” auditions in Mobile. “We got us a turnout here in Mobile. I’m very happy,” said Senior Supervising Producer Patrick Lynn, surveying the hundreds of people queued up inside the Arthur R. Outlaw Mobile Convention Center shortly before 8 a.m. “For this many people to turn out for our first bus stop is good … It’s a good crowd, they’re pretty positive.” Indeed, as he spoke the sound of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man” filled the long high-ceilinged hall. A cluster of men with guitars who found themselves together in line had decided to pass the time with an impromptu jam session. The people lined up around them looked on and in some cases joined in the singing. – Read more at AL.com

Credit goes to her husband and manager, Brandon Blackstock, for changing the “Since U Been Gone” singer’s mind. “One night we were lying in bed, and he said, ‘I’d hate for you to pass up an opportunity just because you’re uncomfortable.’ And I said, ‘Challenge accepted,'” Clarkson continues with a laugh. Can you give us a glimpse of the format? Please tell us you’ll be singing! Kelly Clarkson: Music is highly involved. I open every show how I do on tour: I cover a song of an artist I love. A person in the audience picks the song, and I come down and talk to that person. Then we talk to the audience about maybe something that happened that day [before we] start having guests [come] out. – Read more at TVInsider
