American Idol: Amara Valerio Gets Revenge After Being “Kanye’d”

Just because the Oscars are airing on ABC Sunday night, does not mean American Idol fans have to wait a week to get their fix! As long as they are willing to stay up late, more judges auditions are coming their way.

In this preview from the American Idol post-Oscars episode, Amara Valerio shares how she was “Kanye’d.” during a high school graduation ceremony a few years ago. She was slated to sing the National Anthem, and just after she began her performance, a girl dressed in graduation garb grabbed the mic out of her hands. “HI. This is my senior graduating class, and I deserve to sing the anthem!” Sadly, COVID shutdowns the following year meant she couldn’t sing it for her own graduation.

American Idol judges all in for revenge!

As judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan watch the online video, they became outraged. As the singer performed a belty and soulful version of “Bust Your Windows” by Jazmine Sullivan, the panel call out names wanting to know who the girl is. Luke promises to get the Navy Seals he knows after her. He’s sure her name is “Karen.” After the performance, Amara admits that its an “S” name and the panel guesses, “Sarah.”

“An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind,” admits Katy looking into the camera, “But you’re finished messing with our girl!” After, the judges shout in unison “You’re going to Hollywood!”

Props to Amara for staying focused on her song as the judges were yelling out names. But her embarassment in front of the Yonkers Montessori Academy student body, Amara is probably ready for anything. In any case, the 20 year old singer got revenge. Did Sarah get to sing in front of the American Idol judges? No she did not!

The special one hour edition of American Idol will air after the Oscars on Sunday March 12. On the east coast, it could be pretty late, so get a pot of coffee ready!
