The 87th Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade, the “largest Christmas celebration in America.” took place on Hollywood Boulevard Sunday, Nov 25, 2018 and featured a slew of American Idol alums. Live musical performances took place on two stages and featured David Archuleta (season 7), Ruben Studdard (season 2 winner), Blake Lewis (season 6), Mikalah Gordon (season 11), Elliott Yamin (season 5), and Kimberly Caldwell (season 2).
It was a veritable American Idol reunion! David Archuleta is out promoting his new Christmas album, Winter in the Air, ahead of a seasonal tour. And Ruben Studdard is getting ready to hit Broadway with season 2 runner-up Clay Aiken.
Ashanti and Clare Dunn were also among the performers.
Those who couldn’t catch the parade in Hollywood, can watch it on television. The 87th Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade will premiere as a two-hour special on The CW Network on Friday, December 14 at 8:00 p.m. ET / PT (7:00 P.M. CENTRAL). The parade will also air to more than one million American servicemen and women worldwide on American Forces Network. The parade attracts more than one million in attendance each year, with inflatable character balloons and celebrity filled cars making the trek down the over three mile parade route.
The parade’s telecast will be hosted by Erik Estrada, Laura McKenzie, Dean Cain and Montel Williams, with special co-hosts Elizabeth Stanton and Garrett Clayton. Entertainment Tonight’s Nancy O’Dell was named the Grand Marshal for this year’s anniversary event. Presented and produced by Associated Television International, the live parade which happens in association with The City of Los Angeles, is taped for network television.
