American Idol 9 Top 4: Who is Going Home?

Argh. Despite telling The Los Angeles Times (Check out their Buzzmeter HERE) and MTV (HERE) that I predict a Casey James boot, I’m still not totally convinced.

Casey sang really well last night, overall in both his solo and duet. But the judges undermined Casey, mocking his choice of song, “Mrs. Robinson”, rather than critiquing his performance. The critiques Casey managed to get from the panel were middling to negative. Casey could get saved by folks disgusted by the judges’ treatment, but I wonder if fatigue hasn’t set in with the casual voters, who may be ready to let him go?

Michael Lynche’s performance of Michael Jackson’s “Will You Be There” was bland and boring and safe safe safe. The judges weren’t really feeling it either, but they yammered on mostly about the meaning of the movie Free Willie, rather than discuss Big Mike’s song. But, I still think Casey is splitting his votes with others, while Mike has a fanbase to himself. He’s also been more consistent than Casey over the last few weeks.

But I don’t know. Either could go, and I can’t decide which. Where should I put my pool points?

I am confident that both Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox are safe. Lee didn’t have a great performance last night, but he’s got people and momentum on his side, at this point. And Crystal had the great night that she sorely needed, so I think she’s good for now.

What do you think? Who is going home tonight?
