Here’s my Power List for this week. And…it’s finally happened. I have a new #1 on my list…
- Lee DeWyze – Lee has been building momentum for several weeks now. The judges have been pimping him like crazy, and his performances have been garnering some buzz. Also, as many of you in comments have pointed out–Lee has a penis. Heh. The deal is, Idol demographics skew heavily to woman. And female Idol fans generally go for the boys. A completely unproven assumption, I know. But the way the girls dropped off Idol this year, it really makes me wonder.
- Crystal Bowersox – Crystal has several problems right now. Her best performances appear to be behind her. The judges have criticized her the last couple of weeks. She’s polarizing–talks back to the judges and smiles only when she thinks there’s something to smile about. She reacts to h8ters on twitter. She’s had some bad press. All these things together could work to keep her from winning. Lee, who I think has a good chance of winning, is affable and completely non-controversial. Crystal needs a major MOMENT right now to regain some of the momentum she’s lost. I hope she does it, and people vote for her, because I think she deserves to win.
- Michael Lynche – Michael’s performances the past couple of weeks have been consistently good, and the judges have been kind to him. Unless he really messes up, I think the Top 3, at this point, is his to lose.
- Casey James – Casey’s main problem is, I think, is that he’s splitting votes with Lee. And at this point, that’s a split Casey isn’t going to win. Also, Casey’s Idol performances have been really uneven. He’s had a couple of really spectacular performances, but too often, he appears to be phoning it in. The judges don’t favor him at all, which is not a good thing. If Casey can pull out a fantastic performance, this week, he could possibly advance to the Top 3.
