American Idol season 21 continued on Sunday (March 5) with more new singers. Two hopefuls, Wé Ani and Marybeth Byrd, previously competed on The Voice. It’s a damn shame in both cases that they needed another swing with the singing show bat. (Read our Recap)
Unsurprisingly, there were no shortage of emotional backstories. The night ended with Elijah McCormick who was nearly killed in a car crash. The judges compared his vocals those of 2019’s Willie Spence who also was in a terrible car crash, but did not survive.
Also pulling at the heartstrings was country singer-songwriter Preston Duffee who dedicated an original song to his mother, who died by suicide two years ago.
Elijah, along with The Voice alums were the best of the night. An honorable mention goes to Olivia Soli who performed a gorgeous rendition of Lionel Richie’s “Hello.”
NOTE! The Academy Awards air next Sunday, March 12 on ABC. But AFTERWARD at 11:35 (but probably later) the network will air a special one hour American Idol post-Oscar episode. Do stay up late with us, won’t you?
