American Idol 2022: Who Are the Top 24 Celebrity Mentors?

The American Idol 2022 Top 24 are in Hawaii at the Disney Aulani resort in Hawaii to tape the semifinal round. The official announcement teased “Celebrity Mentors” would be on hand to help the contestants and @idolSpoilers reports that American Idol and Dancing with the Stars alum Jimmie Allen and pop star Bebe Rexha will be on hand to mentor the season 20 singers.

Jimmie Allen and Bebe Rexha are in Hawaii

Jimmie and Bebe are in Hawaii right now, And Jimmie posted a pass to the resort. American Idol will be taping the Top 24 semifinal round today (Feb 14) and tomorrow (Feb 15). The contestants will perform for an audience in a beachside concert in front of judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan.

Both artists have a history with American Idol. Jimmie earned a golden ticket to Hollywood in both seasons 10 and 11. Afterward, as he established himself as a country artist, he returned to American Idol season 19 to mentor and duet with Top 24 contestants Alanis Sophia and Cecil Ray. Jimmie also competed on Dancing the Stars season 30 last fall with his pro partner Emma Slater, leaving the show in 7th place.

Bebe Rexha also served as a celebrity duet partner on American Idol. The semi-final featured a Top 20 back in 2018 when she sang with season 16 country singer and eventual runner-up Caleb Lee Hutchinson and Amelia Harris. The pop star has an extensive reality show resume. She guest judged on the BBC competition Pitch Battle in 2017. In 2019, she served as the “Comeback Stage” coach on The Voice. Then, she returned in 2020 to advise Team Blake Shelton on the season 18 Battle Rounds. She also guest judged on RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars in 2020.

There are still opportunities for fan favorite Idols to mentor

Some American Idol fans were hoping for fan-favorite alums to serve as celebrity mentors. Sure, Jimmie competed on American Idol, but he wasn’t an American Idol star. And Bebe is not a reality show alum. However, Idol producers have promised that alums will fill in for the departing in-house mentor Bobby Bones, who in 4 seasons with the show, mentored every phase of competition.

In other words, there is still plenty of opportunities for alums to mentor.
