American Idol producers continue to make good on their promise to bring show alumni back to mentor contestants.
This week, the Top 5 contestants will travel to The Entertainment Capital of the World, Las Vegas, to be mentored by eight-time GRAMMY Award-winning country music star and 2005 American Idol winner Carrie Underwood from Resorts World Theatre, home of her ongoing REFLECTION: The Las Vegas Residency.
Fun fact: Judges Katy Perry and Luke Bryan also have ongoing Resorts World residencies.
The contestants sing two songs for a spot in the finale
The American Idol season 4 winner will work with Top 5 singers Fritz Hager, Leah Marlene, HunterGirl, Noah Thompson and Nicolina Bozzo to perfect their performances. Each contestant will sing two songs, hoping to earn America’s vote and one of three spots in the Grand Finale on Sunday May 22.
As far as travelling is concerned, it’s up in the air for Fritz and Noah who both tested positive for COVID-19 last week. It kept both artists from performing live on the American Idol stage Sunday night (Read our Recap). But both stayed in the game. Noah performed from his hotel room, while Fritz, who tested positive only that morning, had filmed dress rehearsal performances.
If the two are still quarantining, perhaps they will both Facetime sessions with Carrie. And hopefully, nobody else tests positive before the finale in two weeks.
The Top 5 will perform their original tracks recorded with help from top-notch producers.
Also, each of the Top 7 contestants recorded original songs last week with the help of top-notch producers. The new tracks will be one of the two songs the Top 5 perform on Sunday’s show. The songs will be released to stream and download on Friday May 13.
And that’s not all fans can expect from the upcoming episode. GRAMMY and Academy Award-winning singer-songwriter and producer Finneas will also perform his new single “Naked.” It’s a return trip to Idol for the brother of Billie Eilish, who mentored the contestants last year at the Top 4.
