American Idol 2021 Ratings Drop a Bit vs Last Sunday’s Premiere

(ABC/John Fleenor) WILLIE SPENCE

Good news for American Idol ratings. The numbers stayed fairly steady vs last Sunday’s premiere only dropping 1/10th of a point. This week, the ABC singing competition led Sunday night primetime, according to Nielsen Live+Same Day fast affiliate ratings, scoring a 1.0 in the key 18-49 demo, and garnering more than 6.51 million viewers at 8 pm.

Like last week, Idol only topped in the demo. 60 minutes had 9.30 million viewers watching, but only a 0.7 in the key demo. The Equalizer on CBS also earned a 0.7 rating and 7.88 million viewers in the 8 pm hour.

Last week, American Idol opened Season 19 with 6.7 million total viewers and a 1.1 rating, leading Sunday in the key 18-49 demo for ABC.

It appears that the backlash against spotlighting Claudia Conway and her controversial parents last week didn’t damage the brand to the point of hemorrhaging viewers!
