American Idol 2020 Contestants Are Almost Famous – Watch the Oscar Promo
The spot highlights American Idol host, Ryan Seacrest, along with several of this season’s Idol hopefuls. The closing shot features a handwritten American Idol logo by Cameron Crowe himself, paying homage to his film.
The promo was aired directly after Elton John performed his Oscar nominated song, “I’m Gonna Love Me Again” from the biopic Rocketman. Later in the broadcast, Elton and songwriting partner Bernie Taupin picked up the Best Song award for the tune.

American Idol Where The Stars Are Born – Contestant Audition Montage
Earlier on Sunday, ABC aired a 30 minute American Idol preview “Where The Stars Are Born” that featured catch up segments on fan favorite Idol alums like Ruben Studdard, Mandisa, Carrie Underwood, Justin Guarini, Gabby Barrett & Cade Foehner, Laine Hardy and Maddie Poppe.
This year’s preview stressed American Idol as the show that truly creates stars. Accompanying interview with alums are meant to highlight Idol’s success. But along with former alums, the preview also spotlighted hopefuls from the upcoming season. Many of the singers shown in the Oscar promo were also featured in the preview. I put together a 5 minute montage of singers below.
A few IDS: Francisco Martin is the singer who is the first to board the Almost Famous bus in the preview–Luke declares him “Top 5” after a passionate audition. Can’t miss Alisa Ermolaev on the bus with her wild looking makeup. Blond haired Louis Knight is the first performer to begin singing “Tiny Dancer” and is also featured in the preview. Arthur Gunn is the artist Katy Perry suggests keep his eyes open in the preview. Jovin Webb from the bus promo sports long blond dreads. Amber Field is the big voiced red-head in the preview, she’s also on the bus. Kimmy Gabriella is the sweet soulful singer in the preview. Also, there is a quick glimpse of season 16 singer, Genevieve Linkowski in the preview.
Several hopefuls featured in the preview/promo will also appear on the Feb 16 premiere (Francisco Martin, Louis Knight, Arthur Gunn, Alisa Ermolaev) Check it out a look at the singers featured on next week’s premiere below:
