American Idol production just spent a very busy few days in Hawaii auditioninging contestants for the Top 20 (Yes, it’s a Top 20 this year, rather than a Top 24). The Showcase round took place over the weekend which involved forty contestants performing for judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan. Host Ryan Seacrest and mentor Bobby Bones were also on the island to lend a hand.

Tuesday night (Jan 30) the Green Mile episode was taped–that’s when each of the Top 40 are brought before the judges one by one to learn their fate. Twenty singers emerged from the eliminations. It all went down at the Disney Aulani resort in beautiful Honolulu, Hawaii.
