American Idol 2016 Spoilers Season 15 Premiere Preview
Let’s do this ONE LAST TIME. American Idol begins its 15th and final season on January 6, and I got a sneak peek look at the first episode, featuring auditions from Atlanta and Denver. I’m not going to spoil the entire episode. You’ve barely got a week to wait! But I will lay a couple of spoilery tidbits on ya’ll to get you excited for premiere week.

- That cute little country singer, Michelle Marie, from the promo rattles off all the American Idol winners in a row, bringing home the point that many of the current hopefuls have been watching Idol since they were wee kids. She has a little trouble pronouncing Italian. Just saying.
- Who knew there were stans devastated when Scott McIntyre wasn’t saved by the judges back in season 8?
- American Idol’s legacy is woven in and out of the hopeful’s stories. Fans are constantly reminded of the show’s legacy.
- A separate segment features Idol alums who stopped by audition cities to help, including Ruben Studdard, Kris Allen, Taylor Hicks, Clay Aiken and Lee DeWyze. There’s a funny bit with alums reacting to bad auditions as they help producers choose singers during the cattle call. Ruben choose hopefuls in Atlanta, Taylor lent a hand in Denver, and also attended the judges round, where he jammed with hopefuls on his harmonica out in the holding room. Kris plays with a cute baby. SUPER adorbs.
- Ryan conducts a little interview with Idol mentor, Scott Borchetta and reigning Idol, Nick Fradiani. Scott assures fans that since the end of the Idol tour, they’ve been hard at work on Nick’s debut album.
- Some of the backstories: A big voiced singer lost 150 pounds before she auditioned, a singer’s older brother died in a tragic accident, another lost his mom to cancer. Over the years, there have been a plethora of sad idol stories. We get a montage of them, featuring Kellie Pickler, James Durbin, Josiah Leming and more. A story that’s not sad: A very pregnant wife accompanies her husband on his audition. After, we’re treated to an update.
- Speaking of married couples–husband and wife, Alex and Jordan Sasser audition together, with a bittersweet result (Alex’s song is featured in the preview linked above). The comment section is going to get a little heated after that one, I predict.
- A female cop gets a little kinky with Harry! A singer auditions for the sixth time. You’ll see a couple of returnees from last season.
- Standouts include a cello playing cowgirl, an African American singer/songwriter, and an Indian-American singer, with a bit of a Norah Jones vibe. The Voice Season 5 finalist, Shelbie Z, brings her big country vocals to Idol. She even recycles songs.
- The much talked about Kanye West “audition” closes the episode. He appeared in San Francisco, but why save all that “awesomeness” for Thursday?
