Today’s numbers thread is brought to you by the numbers 5 and 7.
Billboard reports a pretty stagnant top 10 on the Hot 100. Adele remains at number one with “Hello” while Meghan Trainor’s “Like I’m Going to Lose You” with John Legend holds at 10. The players in the middle move around a little. Bieber continues to have three songs in the top 5 with “Sorry” leading the charge at 2, “Love Yourself” getting a new peak at 3 and “What Do You Mean” at 5th. Drake’s “Hotline Bling” moves back a spot to 4th and Selena Gomez breaks up the Canadians by sliding into 6th with her “Same Old Love”. Alessia Cara is at 7th with “Here”, Shawn Mendes is 8th with “Stitches” and the Weeknd is 9th (and making it the third week with 7 Canadians in the top 10) with “The Hills”. The Weeknd also extends his duration in the top 10 to 45 weeks (4th highest – he will tie for third with Rihanna if he can last another week).
In other news, Adele holds all the slots in the top 5 sales weeks of 2015. 1) 3.37M [week 1], 2) 1.16M [week 2], 3) 1.112M [week 5], 4) 789K [week 4], 5) 695K [week 3]. Actually, the top 10 consists of mostly foreigners. 6) 521K [week 1, Purpose, Justin Bieber], 7) 495K [week 1, If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late, Drake], 8) 402K [week 1, Made in the A.M., One Direction], 9) 334K [week 1, What a Time to Be Alive, Drake and Future], 10) 326K [week 1, Beauty Behind the Madness, The Weeknd]. Future is the only American on that list. I see no reason Adele won’t add another week to the top 10 this week.
