The second American Idol 14 promo (Click here to watch American Idol 14 promo #1) continues the strategy of positioning Idol as the singing competition that produces superstars. The first half of the 30 second spot is a parade of alums and their accomplishments. There is Kelly Clarkson, Jordin Sparks, Phillip Phillips, Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson.
Over 60 million records sold! Jordin sold 2.5M. Phillip 1.5M! TWELVE GRAMMY AWARDS! SIX of those belong to Carrie! And don’t forget Jennifer’s Academy Award!
Beat THAT The Voice! It’s true the new kid on the block will NEVER produce alums that even come close to the accomplishments of the veteran competition. But Idol’s days as a show that graduates alums that go on to sell tons of records and win awards is likely over at this point. But why should that little probability stop the producers from harkening back to the show’s glory days to sell the latest season? Nostalgia is everything people. Not gonna lie…it works on me!
The second half of the promo features the judges–Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr. as they embark on their quest for THAT NEXT SUPERSTAR! Quick montage of hopefuls. WHO WILL IT BE?

The American Idol 14 Hollywood round is underway as we speak! American Idol sent out a tweet announcing the arrival of the judges in Hollywood (the contestants were due on Friday). It will be tears and drama all week, I’m sure, as the contestant pool is whittled down. Much blood will be shed by the time the round ends on October 31. Watch for our updates!
