While watching Jessica Meuse sing her original, “Blue Eyed Lie” after she was eliminated tonight, I was reminded that she really IS my favorite. At times, I lost sight of how much I liked her as an artist, because she didn’t play the Idol game very well. She didn’t always choose the right songs for her voice. As good as her original songs are, she couldn’t translate that artistry into singing covers. She often seemed uncomfortable and disconnected when she sang other people’s music.
It also didn’t help that the producers, for some reason, had no love for her. The judges often unfairly criticized her while, allowing other contestants to slide. That, coupled with the bitch edit she got in Hollywood, makes it all the more remarkable that she made it as far as she did! Jessica definitely had an edge. But nevertheless, she handled her time on Idol with grace and class. I’m really going to miss her, and look forward to seeing her on tour.
Now, it’s on to the Top 3. I expect the bus to rev up for Alex Preston next week. It’s really obvious that the producers are hoping for a Jena Irene/Caleb Johnson final two. I think they are going to get it, too.

There’s One Goal Tonight! TO GET HOME. Fun shots of past hometown visits! I LOVE THIS! All four finalists would LOVE to go home this weekend! But only 3 will advance.

The remaining 4 contestants had dinner last night. They preview their week! Jena loved Jl0 “Totally showed me up walking in heels.” She can’t believe Jennifer kissed her. As Alex talks about tonight’s tough elimination, they show Jessica in the split screen She says that no matter what happens, it’s been an amazing adventure. Dead girl walking. Sigh.
RESULTS! The first person heading to their hometown is…. AFTER THE BREAK! YOU SUCK RYAN.
Ford commercial features a trip to a guitar shop! So fitting for American Idol. And a record store. Ending with a trip to Coney Dog. Ryan brings out a plate of…something from New Orleans. Harry begins tossing them out to the audience. It’s some kind of fried dough thingy.
Randy’s Roundup: Jena “On fire last. That was one of the greatest performances in Idol history” HYPERBOLE Caleb: Amazing night. He is really really coming into his own and grown immensely. Jessica: “\Very mixed results. And in the end nailed something great for her. Alex: Alex had a good night. Yellow was money. If he stays, that’s the song that did it for him.
Results for REAL. The first person who earned the Top 3 hometown visit is. Jena Irene.
Filler Video. The Top 4 have a picnic!
The next person heading to their home town is…..Caleb Johnson. Alex and Jessica Remain.
The last person to make the Top 3 is...Alex Preston.
Jessica Meuse is eliminated. We get to hear her version of “Breakaway” and her goodbye video. She’s SOBBING. Aw. Jess. I’m going to miss you. Ryan hands her the microphone and she sings “Blue Eyed Lie.” She looks a little confused at first, like she’s not sure where she’s supposed to come in. But then she begins singing. It’s her AWESOME original song. She sings it out. It’s rough, it’s raw, but it’s PASSIONATE. I WILL SO BUY HER ALBUM.
