This week the American Idol 12 Top 9 will be singing from the songbook of Lennon and McCartney. Yeah, this is a theme that’s been done one too many times. I suspect the song selection is limited, so expect renditions of “Let it Be”, “Yesterday”, “Come Together”, if solo songs are game–John Lennon’s “Imagine.” Zz.
Just for fun, I’m going to choose ambitiously. A girl can always dream!
By the way, If it’s truly a Lennon and McCartney theme, then George Harrison penned songs such as “Something” and “Here Comes the Sun” would not be eligible. Just so you know!
This week’s choices were really hard, and I know the Beatles’ catalog like the back of my hand. Candice, Kree and Paul were the easiest….
Janelle Arthur – “Blackbird” – Janelle singing a rootsy version of this beautiful song could be a wonderful thing.
Candice Glover – “Got to Get You Into My Life” – Candice said on twitter that she’s singing something “upbeat” this week. A song covered by Earth, Wind and Fire would be a good pick for the soulful singer.
Kree Harrison – “Oh Darling” – Kree could bring out her soulful, bluesy side on this classic Beatles’ song.
Amber Holcomb – “Golden Slumbers” – A big song that would give Amber room to hit those big, big notes.
Angie Miller – “In My Life” – Angie could do a lovely rendition of this song, especially if she accompanied herself on piano.
Lazaro Arbos – “I Will” – A pretty song that should fit right into Lazaro’s sweet spot.
Paul Jolley – “I’ve Just Seen a Face” – This song has a folksy vibe that could be sung with a tinge of country.
Burnell Taylor – “We Can Work it Out” – Burnell could sing it Stevie Wonder style and do it justice.
Devin Velez – “And I Love Her” – The original has sort of a Bosa Nova feel. Maybe it’s time for Devin to break out the Spanish again.
