American Idol Recap: Glitter in the Air – We’re down to the top six, so American Idol is cutting tonight’s show to a tight, breezy hour freeing up some time in the prime-time lineup and using their flagging-but-still-considerable audience to prop up one of their struggling sitcoms, showing a modicum of respect for their audience making the finalists sing two songs tonight. FREAKING. GLOVER. You know when Mariah Carey throws glitter on someone instead of giving her a hug (can’t touch the commoners, dahling) that you’ve witnessed something truly special. American Idol Recap: Kids in a Candice Shop – This just in: Mariah Carey is currently in the American Idol naughty corner (located somewhere between Keith Urban’s fitted t-shirt room and Nicki Minaj’s false-eyelash trunk). Yes indeed, the “We Belong Together” singer mentioned in one of many verbose critiques tonight that she’d been “reprimanded by the powers that be” for failing to perform her duties as a judge (and presumably for doing little else besides offering empty platitudes and avoiding eye contact with the crazy cartoon character two chairs to her left). Said talking-to resulted in the debut of Mariah 2.0, a malfunctioning robot who spat out wilted word salads like “that was more in a direction of a performance that would be preferable” and shot glitter from her fingertips. “American Idol” Recap: What The World Needs Now Is Candice – Well, it’s been a long time since I was able to say this, but last night, American Idol made me cry. And it was for a good reason, and not one borne in a feeling of injustice! We’re down to the Top Six now, which means that each contestant gets two solos (hooray, no more group numbers). Last night the theme was split in twain: The first hour was songs penned by Burt Bacharach, and the second was songs that the Idol contestants wished they had written. Which meant that yes, finally, a couple of songs recorded in the last 20 years were thrown into the mix—although the viewing audience had to sit through the singers dealing with material that was, in some cases, more than twice as old as they were first. – Read more at Popdust
‘American Idol’ Recap: Candice Glover Crushes The Cure – The remaining six hopefuls on “American Idol” pulled double-duty on Wednesday night, taking on both a selection from the Burt Bacharach – Hal David songbook, and a song they wish they’d wrote. ‘Idol’ Top 6 Night: Candice Glover Is The Cure For The Season 12 Blues – Up until literally the final seven minutes of Wednesday’s “American Idol” top six show, things were looking pretty dire. Frontrunner Angie Miller tanked in her first performance. Lazaro Arbos’s butchering of a much-loved Carpenters hit had Randy Jackson shouting “NOOOOO!” in slasher-flick-style horror. The babbling and rambling critiques by Mariah Carey, the top-earning talent show judge on television, proved that she must get paid by the word. And Ryan Seacrest’s announcement of the first hour’s fuddy-duddy theme, “Songs Of Burt Bacharach & Hal David,” elicited little more than golf-claps from the unimpressed studio audience. (Way to court the youth demographic, “Idol.”) But then, in the second hour, when the theme changed to “Songs I Wish I’d Written”…Candice Glover covered the Cure. ‘American Idol’ Recap: Candice Glover and Lazaro Arbos Are Worlds Apart – It’s crazy to have such a huge disparity between the best and the worst on “American Idol,” but Wednesday night (April 11) proved it possible, thanks to Candice Glover and Lazaro Arbos. While taking on the catalog of Burt Bacharach and Hal David, Arbos hit arguably the lowest note of the season with his song, continuing a downward slide that will keep many viewers baffled if he remains on the show longer than he already has. Meanwhile, the show’s second half, including songs the contestants wish they had written, featured arguably the season’s best, and perhaps one of the top performances of the previous few years, with Candice Glover going beast mode on The Cure’s “Lovesong.” – Read more at Billboard
‘American Idol’: Who soared, who stunk? – Here’s the deal: A girl’s going to sing for her survival on American Idol Thursday. And the judges are going to save her. Now, Lazaro Arbos is the one who should be going home. His performance of The Carpenters hit Close to You was so bad the judges told him that when his song changes key, he’s not supposed to stay in the old one. In fact, they ripped into the poor kid so hard — stopping just short of flat-out saying, “It’s time for you to go home” — that they probably motivated his sympathetic fans to vote even harder for him. – Read more at Idol Chatter
Say A Little Prayer For Dudes: American Idol Top 6 means you just need to watch the last 6 minutes – Spring is here! I think. No more feeling down, like a someone wielding a penis this season on American Idol. Lazaro is still packing heat and everyone hates him, but then again, no one really seems like they have much personality anyway. And now he’s the only one left who can strut out on stage sans skivvies and sport a noticeable bulge. He’s a smart contestant, don’t you see it? – Read more at TopIdolBlog
