American Idol 12 Top 6 – Poll Results and Predictions (VIDEO)

AMERICAN IDOL: Candice Glover performs on AMERICAN IDOL Wednesday, April 10 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. CR: Frank Micelotta / FOX. Copyright: FOX.

Your favorite from last night’s American Idol Top 6 performance show was, far and away, Candice Glover. She provided the first truly water-cooler moment of the season, and your votes certainly reflected the crazy buzz around her performance.

In the favorite performance poll, Candice’s transcendent “Lovesong” garnered a whopping 54% of the vote, Angie Miller’s “Love Came Down” was a distant second with 15% and Kree Harrison’s “Help Me Make it Through the Night” was 3rd with 9.55%.

In the favorite contestant category, Candice Glover wins again, with 39% of the vote. Kree Harrison is next with 22% and Angie Miller is 3rd with 20%. Amber Holcomb and Janelle Arthur are neck in neck for 4th place with about 8% of the vote and Lazaro Arbos is dead last with 3.4%.

Lazaro was overwhelmingly voted the contestant who SHOULD go home. 92% ya’ll. It renders the rest of the rankings too statistically insignificant to even mention. But in the “Who WILL go home” category, Lazaro is in a dead heat with Janelle Arthur–less than a percentage point apart–at around 41%. Amber Holcolmb is next with 14% of the votes.

Maybe it’s wishful thinking on part? But I think Lazaro will finally go home this week. Sure, he was in the Top 3 last week. But only a week before, he was in the bottom. He clearly demonstrated last night that he is light years out of his league. Actually, he’s been making that clear EVERY week. But even Laz’s most die-hard fans have to be falling by the wayside at this point–even if it’s just to save him any further embarrassment. His performance of “Close to You” was so shockingly bad, only his friends, relatives and the most die-hardiest of fans could have voted for him.

If Lazaro goes tonight, there’s no way in hell he’s being saved–despite it technically being the last week the save can be utilized. Yes, Idol has fewer contestants than weeks in the show’s schedule. But there are other ways to compensate. Without having to accommodate a double elimination, the save could be extended for a week or even two. The producers could just ditch the save and have an Idol “special” with no eliminations. Or, just have a surprise “no elimination” one week. Your average viewer isn’t reading press about Idol. They won’t be sitting around thinking “The show is going to end a week early if you eliminate someone!”

Having said that, if a girl is eliminated tonight, she will be saved. Even Nicki will buck up and rescue Janelle, despite not being very kind to her little marshmallow lately. Because if Lazaro is sticking around, anything like a save or a free week has the potential to keep him around. It would be the best for everyone to limit his chances. But then, on the other hand, if the judges let Janelle go (whom they clearly see as expendable, given their treatment of her lately) it preserves the save in case Lazaro knocks out another talented girl. So. Hm.

So. Here’s my prediction:

There will be a bottom two this week. Lazaro Arbos and Janelle Arthur will be in it. Lazaro is eliminated. The save is NOT used. IF Janelle is eliminated. She will be saved.

What do you think? What are your predictions for tonight?
