This week, the American Idol 11 Top 6 perform the iconic songs of Queen. Tricky business that, as many of the songs are notoriously difficult to sing. For their second song, the finalists will be able to pick any tune they can get cleared. I hope they choose wisely for themselves. All my picks are contemporary.
Here are my picks:
Elise Testone – “Somebody to Love” – Elise has to ROCK IT this week. For her personal pick, “Shake it Out” by Florence + the Machine.
Hollie Cavanagh – “The Show Must Go On” – A suitable ballad for Hollie and then something uptempo for the second pick “We Found Love” by Rihanna.
Josha Ledet – “A Crazy Little Thing Called Love” and then slow it down with “Without You” by Usher and David Guetta.
Skylar Laine – “Fat Bottomed Girls” – This would never happen in a million years, but in my alternate universe, it would. More realistically – “Who Wants to Live Forever” to show off her big pipes, then for her personal pick, an uptempo country tune.
Phil Phillips – “I Want It All” – A song Phil wouldn’t have to change up much to suit his style. For his personal pick? “Lonely Boy” by the Black Keys.
Jessica Sanchez – “We Are the Champions” – Think Jessica could make it powerful. For her personal pick, a contemporary R&B/Pop tune. Make it fierce, Jessica!
