The Amazing Race: All Stars Episode 6 Discussion and Recap (UPDATED)

Tonight the teams continued the race in Sri Lanka. Read on to find out how the teams fared in pumping gas, carrying logs, and printing paper.

The episode begins with Dave and Connor leaving the mat first. They find out they must go to the Dutch Museum. They are then followed by Caroline and Jennifer, Jet and Cord, and Leo and Jamal. However, the museum doesn’t open until 8:30am, meaning all the teams will be on even footing at the start of this leg.

As soon as the museum opens the next morning, there’s a mad dash inside for the clue; John even trips through the scramble. They all get a clue to their next destination: Alawwa, Sri Lanka. Once there, they must proceed to Ceypetco Fuel Station. All the teams get on the same train to the fuel station, but Brendon and Rachel get there first. They find out there’s a Roadblock to complete. They must pick a badge and pump gas into four three-wheeled vehicles called tuk tuks that have a matching badge on the windshield. Rachel picks a green badge, but she ends up pumping all the green tuks tuks instead of the ones with a green badge on the windshield. However, it’s insanity as the teams fight over the pumps to fill up their four tuks tuks that Rachel is unaware of her mistake after she pumps four green tuk tuks. Rachel does not realize her mistake until John lets her know (and only because Rachel was trying to pump one of his tuk tuks). So Rachel has to start the Roadblock all over again, but the other teams are not having an easy time with the task either. Even though they all understood what they had to do, it was madness as they all fought over the gas pump in the middle of very heavy traffic.

After all was said and done, Flight Time and Big Easy finish the Roadblock first. They may now make their way to Rambukkana and proceed to an elephant foundation. However, they must wait for the train to arrive first. Following the Globetrotters are John and Jessica, Leo and Jamal, Jet and Cord, Dave and Connor, and Caroline and Jennifer. Rachel is just finally completing the Roadblock as the other teams board the train. However, at the last minute, Brendon and Rachel make it onto the train right on time. So as all the teams are on the way to the elephant foundation, they are on equal footing once again.

The teams then jump off the train and run to the tuk tuks that will take them to a river with yellow clue envelopes scattered around. They all find it easily, which informs them of the Detour they need to complete: “Trunk or Sheets.” “Trunk” requires teams to attach a chain to a log as an elephant will help carry it to load onto a truck one at a time. “Sheets” requires teams to print paper using elephant dung. Only four teams can do “Trunks” due to a limited number of chains. Jet and Cord, Leo and Jamal, Dave and Connor, and John and Jessica do “Trunks,” while the other three teams (Brendon and Rachel, Caroline and Jennifer, and Flight Time and Big Easy) do “Sheets.”

The teams struggle with the Detours. Dave and Connor and John and Jessica couldn’t attach the chain to the log properly at first. Over at sheets, all the teams forgot that they had to press the paper at one point. Otherwise, there would be bubbles on the sheets.

Despite the other teams’ hardships, Jet and Cord finish their Detour first. They must now make their way to Ambepussa Rest House and visit a “wise man.” But right behind them are Leo and Jamal, who are determined to beat the cowboys this leg. And following behind them are John and Jessica, Dave and Connor, and Flight Time and Big Easy.

Jet and Cord find the wise man first and listen to him play a little tune on his flute before he hands over a clue. And this time, it’s the destination to the Pit Stop: Mount Lavinia Hotel Beach. Leo and Jamal are still very close behind the cowboys, and it’s a footrace to the Pit Stop. The whole episode focused heavily on the cousins’ determination to beat the cowboys, which they do. Leo and Jamal arrived at the Pit Stop first, with Jet and Cord landing on the mat just seconds later. It was a close race, but the cowboys should’ve known that wearing jeans was going to put them at a disadvantage to the cousins (who were in shorts). Phil informs Leo and Jamal that they are Team #1, and the cousins are very smug about it. They won a trip to Berlin, Germany.

Meanwhile, there’s another close race going one between Dave and Connor and Flight Time and Big Easy. It turns out that their taxi drivers happened to be brothers. However, Flight Time and Big Easy’s taxi driver went the wrong way, allowing Dave and Connor to race ahead of them. However, there’s still another footrace to the finish line. This time it’s between Dave and Connor and John and Jessica. It’s another very close race, but the young couple John and Jessica arrived at the Pit Stop as Team #3. Dave and Connor gave their best effort, but Dave’s age and Connor carrying both backpacks made it an uneven footrace. But the father and son duo check in at the Pit Stop as Team #4.

There are now only three teams left. And checking in as Team #5 are Brendon and Rachel. And even though the Globetrotters’ taxi driver got lost, Flight Time and Big Easy are not in last place; they are Team #6.  This means that Caroline and Jennifer are the last team to arrive at the Pit Stop. However, not all is lost as it’s another non-elimination leg! The country singers are spared, and they will get to continue on in the race.

Overall, I thought this was a pretty good episode. I liked that there were equalizers in this leg since it kept the teams on the same playing field for the entire episode. Also noteworthy from this episode is the clear rivalry between Jet and Cord and Leo and Jamal. Personally, I’m rooting for Jet and Cord since the Afghanimals annoy me. Elsewhere, Dave and Connor are still a pretty dominant team, whereas Brendon and Rachel are still being portrayed as the underdogs. But what will happen next time on the race when the teams travel to Rome, Italy? I guess we’ll have to find out.
