Allison Iraheta to perform Her New Single ‘Scars’ on Thursday Night’s Results Show

According to Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Slezak (Here):

Allison Iraheta, fourth-place finisher from season 8 of American Idol, will perform her new single “Scars” during the show’s Thursday-night telecast (8 p.m. ET on Fox). A live performance by the red-headed rocker should provide momentary respite for the four season 9 semifinalists (two men, two women) who’ll get the boot during the course of the hour-long telecast. “Scars, ” written by Toby Gad and Alyssa James, and produced by Gad, is a ballad from Iraheta’s 2009 debut Just Like You.

The episode will also feature Kris Allen performing, and sharing his experiences from his recent trip to Haiti…

Really happy to see Allison is getting a second single.  “Scars” is a good one–really shows off her vocal chops in a way that “Friday I’ll Be Over U” did not.

  1. I’m really glad to see both Kris & Allison performing, but are they going to have time for the actual RESULTS, with two guest performers plus the package on Kris’s Haiti trip? I’d say yes if there weren’t a group performance, but it sounds like there will be one of those too, per some of the AI9’ers twitters.

I’ll definitely enjoy it! Excited to see both of them. :)

  2. It’s an hour show, right? They should have time. Wow, 5 hours of Idol this week. I hope I “discover” some kids to pull for!

  3. They have a whole hour to fill, one of the reasons why the results shows have seen much lower ratings than the performance shows is because they have been nothing but an hour of very painful filler. It’s good to know that this Thursday’s show will have a lot more substance, and won’t be dragged out for no reason at all.

  4. Michael Slezak just tweeted that her record label reps have confirmed “Scars” will be Allison’s next single.

  5. They are up against the finals in women’s figure skating?
    Ouch!
    Gonna get trounced!

  6. When we we hear the boot song for the first time, Thursday as well?

    I looooooove Scars!

  7. Top 24 boot song is not the same as the Top 12 boot song. Whichever one we hear this week came in second.

  8. Top 24 boot song is not the same as the Top 12 boot song. Whichever one we hear this week came in second.

    ok, thank you!

  9. YES!!! I’m so glad they’re giving up on FIBOU, one of the only songs I don’t on that album!!! Scars is one of my favorites. I can see it doing really well.

  10. i wonder why they arent having kris on next week bc his single will be platinum by then

  11. They are up against the finals in women’s figure skating?

yes and on the canadian side, there is Joannie Rochette whose mother died from a heart attack yesterday while in Vancouver to watch her daughter performs. It’s so sad. Joannie is staying on the competition, so that will draw a lot of viewers on the Canadian side if she’s still there in the finals

  12. Yay to hearing both Kris and Allison on Thursday night! (I’ll be taping the Olympics and catch up later).

Yay to a new single for Allison, and for giving her AI exposure when it’s released!!! I hope this turns the tables for Allison – she’s sooooo talented and I LOVE her album!!!

I hope Kris, the UN and IGB are able to raise awareness and LOTS of $$ for Haiti – that would be a huge win for all around.

yes, I was wondering the same thing. I bet there will be a mention that LLWD is nearing platinium (I hope)

  14. This is going to be pretty much the best results show ever, haha.

  15. Well, this is a surprise! So many of us were thinking that Kris needed to perform something “appropriate” to coincide with Idol Gives Back, and now Allison is going to be on promoting/performing her new single? Sounds like all bets are off now as to what Kris should be singing. I expect it will be LLWD.

  16. I’m happy for Allison. i’m looking forward to see her perform. It’s a GREAT platform to launch her new single!! I hope it does much better than FIBOU

Can’t wait for Kris performance and cover of the Haiti situation.

  17. It sucks that the ratings aren’t as high now as they can be later but it’s still good exposure for Allison and Scars is a wonderful song that showcases everything that I love about her voice and her emotional connection to her songs.

  18. None of the U.S. women’s figure skaters are likely to medal and the top skaters won’t be on until later in the evening, probably (the top men were on after 10 p.m. Eastern time), so it might not mpact Idol’s ratings too much, although I would bet NBC wins the time slot

PS – that’s very sad about the Canadian skater’s mom

  19. It’s so sad. Joannie is staying on the competition, so that will draw a lot of viewers on the Canadian side if she’s still there in the finals

CTV shows both the Olympics and Idol so there won’t be a schedule conflict (although, I haven’t seen any Idol since the Olympics started – have they shown anything but the Olympics since they started?)

None of the U.S. women’s figure skaters are likely to medal and the top skaters won’t be on until later in the evening

I went to the practice yesterday and all the press there were for Yuna Kim (Korea). The US really needs to rebuild it’s female program. This will likely be the first time they won’t podium in forever.

the top men were on after 10 p.m. Eastern time

NBC is tending to make the West coast wait which is enraging a lot of people (they aren’t shown events live even though they are airing on the east coast).

Great for Allison and her new single. The other one just wasn’t working.

  20. *fingers crossed* don’t dress like Cyndi Lauper, no hair over the face, don’t dress like Cyndi Lauper, no hair over the face, …

Yay! Scars and Kris’s visit will be reason to sort of enjoy the too-long hour-long results show, since I’ll watch it anyway because women’s figure skating is by such a long shot the boring one out of the three figure-skating disciplines (I suppose that’s true because my interest isn’t piqued by watching girls in short skirts ….).

In any case, though, the top skaters will probably come on at 10 or after anyway.

  22. fingers crossed* don’t dress like Cyndi Lauper, no hair over the face, don’t dress like Cyndi Lauper, no hair over the face,

Given the song, I would think she will dress different, more normal.

  23. CTV shows both the Olympics and Idol so there won’t be a schedule conflict (although, I haven’t seen any Idol since the Olympics started – have they shown anything but the Olympics since they started?)

Kirsten, last week, I tuned in to NBC to watch idol because of the Olympics on CTV. Are you aware if they were rebroaodcasting at another time?

Regarding Joannie, she’s the best hope of medal for Canada in artistic skating. She’s the reigning world silver medalist

  24. Allison’s appearance on Idol will really test Idol’s ability to move albums and Allison’s own marketability. If an appearance on a show watched by 25 million people cannot result in a substantial increase in sales (at least 5000 in sales or a 600% increase based on last available numbers), this will really raise some troubling questions for Idol and Jive.

  25. Yay for ‘Scars’!!!! I approve that as her next single and her performing it on AI this Thursday.

I’m really looking forward to seeing Kris Haiti footage and hearing both him and Allison sing again on the AI stage.

  26. If an appearance on a show watched by 25 million people cannot result in a substantial increase in sales (at least 5000 in sales or a 600% increase based on last available numbers), this will really raise some troubling questions for Idol and Jive.

I wouldn’t expect a single performance to do that much for the entire album. It might do wonders for the song itself but the whole album? This is a generation of iTunes downloading and illegal downloading. Also, it’ll be the first time she performs it on tv and it hasn’t had any radio air time.

  27. What a great opportunity for Allison! Yay! I hope she does it acoustic. She’s been sounding great on this song – it should be killer. I can’t wait!

LOL, LDR! Yeah, I hope she tones it way down for this appearance. I think this early in the season it should be really casual.

ETA: Maybe she can come back later in the season with a full band to debut You Don’t Know Me or D is for Dangerous as another single!

  28. Singing a song before it has significant radio play is kind of a tough way to launch a single. It makes one wonder how much radio support Scar is going to get from Jive.

  29. I wouldn’t expect a single performance to do that much for the entire album. It might do wonders for the song itself but the whole album? This is a generation of iTunes downloading and illegal downloading. Also, it’ll be the first time she performs it on tv and it hasn’t had any radio air time.

But is 5000 in sales really that much to expect? She is appearing on the most watched show in television, is a great live performer, has the backing of a major record label and the powerful 19M and is the very popular 4th place finisher from just a season ago with fans who are tweens, teens, young women, young men, cougars, grandmothers, and Slezak.

  30. is the very popular 4th place finisher from just a season ago with fans who are tweens, teens, young women, young men, cougars, grandmothers, and Slezak.

    And Jim Cantiello…

I hope you’re right, I just think it’s sucky that she got saddled with the first results show and not something later down the line when the song has been out for a bit and the viewership is higher. I’m also not sure that people buy entire albums based on just one song.

Here in California, NBC replays the prime time show at 2:00am -5:00am.

  32. PRM – I just think it’s sucky that she got saddled with the first results show and not something later down the line when the song has been out for a bit and the viewership is higher.

I don’t think this is a bad thing at all! We’ve been hoping for a new single and now she has America’s biggest stage to debut it. I think sooner is better, maybe not for viewership, but she needs a new single now! Plus we don’t know what might happen later in the season… maybe she’ll be back again.

  33. This is when it is very lucky for Allison that she is signed with 19A-Z–and they are letting her sing her next single (not rehash another cover.) Can’t predict what kind of bump it will give Allison, but it will definitely provide a bump in sales.

And for those Allison fans that are concerned about the timing of her appearance. Any appearance singing an original song will help. There are so many other AI Contestants who would love this opportunity — I think it will be very good for her exposure.

The only time I think it didn’t really help the contestant in sales was when they made Bo sing that bubble-gum song. I can’t remember the name, but it was cracking me up how miserable the poor guy looked singing that fluff.

  34. So many of us were thinking that Kris needed to perform something “appropriate” to coincide with Idol Gives Back, and now Allison is going to be on promoting/performing her new single? Sounds like all bets are off now as to what Kris should be singing. I expect it will be LLWD.

Allison isn’t the one talking about going to Haiti, and showing images of it. So I don’t think it’s quite the same thing, at least in my opinion. YMMV, of course.

Anyhew, I’m thrilled that Jive is giving Allison a second single. FIBOU clearly wasn’t going anywhere, and I really like Scars. That with Holiday are my two favourite songs of Allison album.

And of course, I hope lots of money is raised for Haiti by Kris/IGB.

  35. So, when I just read this news, I was immediately ecstatic that Allison would get the big AI exposure so soon (rather than later). Plus the news of a second single! YEA!!

However, just had the thought about it airing during the olympics – and I think Thursday is Women’s Figure Skating, which tends to be big. So boo to that :-( Hopefully AI ratings will still be really high and help her a lot.

  36. i hope that jive keeps alison. unfortunately she doesnt have the album or singles sales, and its not her fault. she is brilliant. i wish she would have been signed to a label that could give her more attention bc jive cant handle two idols from the same season, obviously.

  37. However, just had the thought about it airing during the olympics – and I think Thursday is Women’s Figure Skating, which tends to be big. So boo to that Hopefully AI ratings will still be really high and help her a lot.

Yeah, I was thinking that as well, but I gather the US hasn’t a strong chance to medal contend this year, so maybe people here will watch less and watch AI instead?

Oh well, I’m still happy for Allison. Glad she’s going to get another single, and a pretty song at that, and that she’s going to be on the show. Though yes, I wish she was going to be on later. Still, having an AI show be her first announcing/performing her new single, seems like a good thing.

  38. I wouldn’t expect a single performance to do that much for the entire album. It might do wonders for the song itself but the whole album? This is a generation of iTunes downloading and illegal downloading. Also, it’ll be the first time she performs it on tv and it hasn’t had any radio air time.

She is a great live performer, and I think this will be great in terms of reminding so many of the average AI fans just how amazing and talented she is, not to mention, remind them that she has an album out, singles out, and that the music is good :-)

I think one of her biggest problems so far has been that not enough people outside of us even knew she had an album, what with so little press compared to Kris and Adam, plus the single not doing as well on radio.

I remember rewatching S8 and just being blown away by how good she was back then on the AI stage. This will be great exposure for her :-)

  39. It’s probably her last shot. Her sales are as bad as KLC, who was dropped like a hot potato in record time. I doubt an AI performance will help her substantially. Just ask Blake Lewis….

  40. So many of us were thinking that Kris needed to perform something “appropriate” to coincide with Idol Gives Back, and now Allison is going to be on promoting/performing her new single? Sounds like all bets are off now as to what Kris should be singing. I expect it will be LLWD.

These are 2 different things. Allison seems to be invited as the musical performer for the results show, as is the AI norm. Kris seems to be there to promote IGB and try to bring attention to the situation in Haiti and since we now know he will be performing Let It Be, I don’t see why Allison can’t treat this as it should be, an opportunity to be the musical gue for the results show.

I hope you’re right, I just think it’s sucky that she got saddled with the first results show and not something later down the line when the song has been out for a bit and the viewership is higher. I’m also not sure that people buy entire albums based on just one song.

This seems like it is being done to purposefully launch her new single – I’m not sure what it will do for her sales but it’s an intelligent launch strategy, IMO.

  41. She is appearing on the most watched show in television, is a great live performer, has the backing of a major record label and the powerful 19M and is the very popular 4th place finisher from just a season ago with fans who are tweens, teens, young women, young men, cougars, grandmothers, and Slezak [and Cantiello].

While I am ecstatic about the appearance, remember that this is the same audience that, while knowing her, has not bought her music in big numbers.
The question is not whether she’ll knock it out of the park. She will.
The real question is whether she’ll convince people who followed her on Idol, who probably saw her on tour, who have probably heard at least some of her music already, but have not purchased the album, to go and get it.

  42. Yay! And I’m glad “Scars” is Allison’s new single, it’s one of my favorites.

  43. The real question is whether she’ll convince people who followed her on Idol, who probably saw her on tour, who have probably heard at least some of her music already, but have not purchased the album, to go and get it.

You are absolutely correct. There is no reason why Allison has not sold more than 85,000 albums. I think it shows that it is really hard to predict who the public will connect with and buy records from. Clearly, talent alone is NOT enough. I doubt that 19M will drop her even if sales don’t pick up after the appearance or the next single. They kept Blake Lewis for some time, and he only sold 300k or so as the runner up.

  44. Is this the small circular stage similar to last year’s Top 36 group shows, the one Brooke performed solo with her little piano? If it is, then I see Alli performing an acoustic version of Scars with her guitarist on stools. I hardly remember Brooke let alone the song she performed in that little stage.

I should be glad for the opportunity given to the girl, but it seems so half-assed, without care and obligatory. Given the timing with the Olympics, the very competitive Thursday primetime TV lineup, WHY DIDN’T THEY JUST LET HER PERFORM DURING THE AUDITIONS!
I bet Orianthi(19 managed as well) will be performing Top 10 or better – since they seem to be pushing her with all arms. They should just release her and let another label and management promote her and give her the attention she so rightly deserves. She’ll be swooped up in a heart beat! Of course, they wont do that. Thats why they signed her right off the bat, to secure the rights to her and sit on it, at the bottom of the promotional chain. From the beginning they’ve been careless. Its a great album with only a couple fillers, so there’s hope in substance – carried entirely on the shoulders of her voice – execution is suspect.
I was hoping she would do Top 10 at least, now Im thinking Matt Giraud will get a better spot.(nothing against Matt)

  45. If an appearance on a show watched by 25 million people cannot result in a substantial increase in sales (at least 5000 in sales or a 600% increase based on last available numbers), this will really raise some troubling questions for Idol and Jive.

whoa! i would never expect Allison (or Kris or Adam) to experience that huge of a sales surge from an Idol performance. Will she likely see an increase in album sales? Yes. Will Scars bounce up the itunes chart for a few days? yes. But expecting her albums sales to jump up to 5000 and/or have a 600% sales increase? I don’t think so. And not achieving that sort of a bounce says nothing about idol, jive or Alli IMO.

  46. Happy happy stuff! So happy to see Allison on Idol and happy about ‘Scars’! Excellent choice for her next single and I’m happy they’re finally getting on with it.

  47. Rub – I was hoping she would do Top 10 at least, now Im thinking Matt Giraud will get a better spot.

Not to get anybody’s hopes up, but I still have my fingers crossed that Allison will have this year’s exit song (maybe Pieces or Still Breathing or YDKM?) and we’ll see her again later in the season.

I don’t think they would purposely treat her bad. I think they are trying to help her sales by getting her out there early.

  48. I think they want to hurry and get the new single out, and that’s why she is appearing so early. It’s my hunch and strong belief that she’ll appear again later.

Appearing on Idol is huge. People get huge sales surges when they sing there. Now I know why they waited for her single, they wanted her to present it on Idol, on the very first week possible. This is awesome, truly awesome. FIBOU was a weak first single, when her cd has several truly amazing songs on it. She’s got a powerful voice, let her use it. Don’t try to put her in the teenybopper box. Let her spread her wings and fly. I can’t wait for Thursday.

It’s probably her last shot. Her sales are as bad as KLC, who was dropped like a hot potato in record time. I doubt an AI performance will help her substantially.

Last shot? She’s only 17, and her album has been out less than 4 months. Allison is incredibly talented, and has grown tremendously as an individual and a performer in the last year. Her album sales have been modest, but her radio exposure has been minuscule. And, most people agree that FIBOU was not the best choice to showcase her talent. Scars will offer her more of an opportunity to highlight her unique musical qualities.

Will this Results Show be a breakthrough moment for Allison? It would be nice – but probably not. But it sure will help. 19E has used Idol before to plug new singles, such as No Air and Battlefield, and, BTW, these also were highlighted on 19E’s So You Think You Can Dance. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if they use one or two of Allison’s songs on SYTYCD. I think several of her songs would work beautifully with choreography; and, I don’t think the producers/choreographers really care about how popular the music is, as long as it enhances the dance performance. A milestone dance performance could really help gain recognition for Allison’s music. Also, there is an opportunity for an appearance on a SYTYCD Results Show.

I think that Allison’s management is aware that, although her sales numbers have been small, she has a very devoted core of fans, across surprisingly wide demographics, who really really really really love her. And, this number has great potential to grow. Just a matter of timing.

This won’t be her last shot.

So, in the meantime, I’ll set my DVR so I can watch Idol and the Winter Olympics (aren’t DVRs common now?).

BTW – Note to Allison: Please start Scars on the right key this time! :)

haha, thats alli lurker for ya. Yes, there’s still hope.

I agree with you, they’re not “purposely” treating her bad. 19 has a responsibility to the winner, the runner up and the dogma of the three from AI8. If she had signed with a different management and label, nobody could point fingers and wave their hands in protest if she were to get the better promotion. I realize this is all Monday morning quaterback and we have to live with what we’ve got. She will be third tier, getting leftovers, so long as she’s managed by 19. For how long? Who knows the term of the contract. What do I know – this performance could catapult her into something big.

  51. Rub – haha, thats alli lurker for ya. Yes, there’s still hope.

    Haha! Ya gotta believe, Rub!!

Of course, if these things don’t happen, I’ll be angry and bitter “Just Like You”!! :)

  52. It’s probably her last shot. Her sales are as bad as KLC, who was dropped like a hot potato in record time. I doubt an AI performance will help her substantially.

KLC wasn’t on Jive, and her label was obviously trying to make a quick Idol buck. She didn’t get much more than a coffee shop gig, did she?

Allison’s label seems to see her potential as an artist, and I think they will be a little patient. They said they would sign her no matter where she placed on Idol. I guess time will tell.

I’m looking forward to her performance!

  53. I am surprised to hear Allison is appearing so early in the season. It’s when they get to the Top 12 that they open up the show – and thus a bigger audience. But I agree, she will have to bring it with Scars. No matter how talented she is, no record label would continually keep an artist on if they cannot make them money.

  54. Allison’s problem is that she has never been able to build a strong fan base. She tied with Anoop for having been in the bottom the most times during Season 8. And she often fell to the bottom when she gave good performances. And she was never able to overcome that during the AI summer tour. There were often reports of her being rude to fans. And all this is now coming to a head with her poor sales.

The thing that is disconcerting is that there has been no news of a tour for her.

  55. Yay! Love Scars and look forward to seeing Allison sing it live on AI!

  56. ALR
Not to get anybody’s hopes up, but I still have my fingers crossed that Allison will have this year’s exit song (maybe Pieces or Still Breathing or YDKM?) and we’ll see her again later in the season.

    Both are unlikely.
Exit: I don’t think any of Alli’s songs fit as an exit song. Maybe FIBOU “Monday Tuesday we were cool” (Tuesday is performance night for the finals) “Wednesday I found about you” (Wednesday is results night and loser found out he/she was cut) “Friday I’ll be over U” (FU America, I’ll be over this by Friday).
Coming back later: Has that happened? An artist performing twice the same season? At best, she’ll come back for the Idol’s Give Back Special (there is one this year, I think). Seriously doubt she’ll come as a performer during a regular results night.

  57. Congrats to Allison! I’ll be happy to see her perform again on television. I love “Scars”. That and “Don’t Waste The Pretty” are my two favorites from her album. I hope “Scars” has a much better reception for radio than FIBOU.

  58. I think Thurs will be the only performance for Allison on Season 9. I don’t think she rates enough on the pecking order with 19E to warrant another guest spot. I also doubt very much she will be ask to participate in Idol Gives Back.

Unfortunately, I think you’re right, unless they bring her in as part of Kradison. Damn pecking order.

OTOH, maybe Ellen will offer here a guest spot – hopefully including some sit down time this time around?

Like I said previously, SYTYCD is a 19E production, and I don’t think the Idol pecking order means as much on that show. A good opportunity to showcase her and/or a little of her music.

Yah, that puts them in the same category. :)

  62. Tweet from Allison:

Doin Scars on Idol… Thursday … is this really happenin? Am I goin back?? Should I wear the same dress I wore for ” Dont Speak ” just to get Simon pissed ? Hahahhaa loovvvee youu siimooonn…

    Funny gal.

  63. I’m pretty sure Carrie Underwood did it last year.

Nope. Last year, Carrie only performed once– the goodbye song, Home Sweet Home, at the end of finale performance night. (A truncated version at that, where she was only shown on the screen for, at most, half of the song.)

  64. Not true, she also performed in Top11 Results night, a duet with Randy Travis. Not saying that means anything since Carrie is their biggest selling artist and all.

  65. Oh yeah! I forgot about that. I guess I was just trying to recall solo performances.

Btw, I love that “Scars” is the next single. When I listened to the album, it was a standout track. Beautifully sung. Also, I don’t think I’ve been able to say this here before but, IMO, Allison’s album is by far the best of the 3 (Kradison).

  66. Peeps on the Pulse Music Board think “Scars” is a terrible choice. Anyone have any idea why or does anyone think there might have been a better choice? I was surprised to see the negative opinions on this song. Sigh. It’s worrisome.

  67. Will this Results Show be a breakthrough moment for Allison? It would be nice – but probably not. But it sure will help.

Breakthroughs come in all sizes, there can be small breakthroughs and major breakthroughs. Even if it’s a small breakthrough, it’s good. :)

I don’t see why people are trying to quantify in advance what her sales jump should be. I don’t think there is a certain number she has to hit. I just assume that she’ll get a sales boost from the appearance.

I hope she looks good and takes full advantage of this opportunity, which doesn’t come along every day. I am thinking of Kellie Pickler, her first AI appearance she looked terrible (tried too hard I think) and got derision and ridicule the next day all over the internet. She came back the next year and every year thereafter, and made up for it. Allison should look her best and not look too crazy. I like her hair lately, longer and less wonky layers. Well whatever, it’s her career but I do worry for her. :)

  68. OTOH, maybe Ellen will offer here a guest spot – hopefully including some sit down time this time around?

Ohh, good idea! Hopefully Ellen will have her on at some point in the spring! I can definitely see that happening – she would be fun and have a lot of energy with Ellen.

Like I said previously, SYTYCD is a 19E production, and I don’t think the Idol pecking order means as much on that show. A good opportunity to showcase her and/or a little of her music.

A summer appearance on SYTYCD is always possible too, though SYTYCD veers much more towards pop artists (maybe more pop than Allison, imo), and usually doesn’t have as many AI’ers. I could see Kris or Adam making a repeat performance on SYTYCD in the summer, but Allison not as much.

Coming back later: Has that happened? An artist performing twice the same season?

Only Cook performed twice last year – once midway through the season, then again for the finale.

  70. The Idol albums sale on iTunes this week will help. Allison’s album is $7.99.

  71. Peeps on the Pulse Music Board think “Scars” is a terrible choice. Anyone have any idea why or does anyone think there might have been a better choice? I was surprised to see the negative opinions on this song. Sigh. It’s worrisome.

Meh, I’m not surprised. Allison seems to have to work three times as hard to get recognition and for some reasons that I hope are not the ones I’m thinking there are still people who don’t want to get behind her, regardless of what she does. People thought FIBOU was a tremendously radio-friendly track (which it is) who made sense as a first single, yet it peaked at #58 on the charts. We’ll just have to see. I see them choosing Scars as the complete opposite of FIBOU. People complained that FIBOU didn’t showcase Allison’s voice or emotional delivery and it was too pop or too young for Allison, so here you go, take Scars now and try to use those same arguments for disliking the song. The way I see it, Allison will always be polarizing and we’ll just have to wait and see.

  72. There are those who get a kick out of talking smack and get attention for themselves. Just take a look at the comments of the most excellent performances, you’ll see a load of negatives, even the most popular artists.
What do they want, Trouble Is? That’s Allis last line of defence.

  73. Peeps on the Pulse Music Board think “Scars” is a terrible choice. Anyone have any idea why or does anyone think there might have been a better choice? I was surprised to see the negative opinions on this song.

Try listening to it as a non-fan. I like Scars, but I don’t think it works well as a single, it’s a bit too slow, listening to the song I kinda expecting a rousing chorus from the second verse onwards but which somehow never really came. Fans sometimes get blinded by what they particularly love about a singer and missed what might appeal to the general public.

Personally I would have gone for Holiday as the first single, and Just Like You the second one. FIBOU was a very bad choice, it’s probably the worst song on the album, half a dozen other songs would have done better. The album itself is actually rather good, one of the better idol albums, and should by right be selling much better than it does if they were more careful with their choice of singles.

But I hope Scars will do well, you can never tell with songs, sometimes they become big hits against all expectations. We can only wait and see I suppose.

  74. Try listening to it as a non-fan.

I’ve done the experiment with non-fans of playing the entire album and that song does stand out for some reason. I played the album at my brother’s house, he’s a 36 year old guy who’s into more rock music. He hates FIBOU, likes a few of the other songs but never really payed attention to the ballads, being the guy that he is. Once Scars got into the chorus, he just made a comment about how that song was good and he liked it. I totally didn’t expect it. I also gave the CD to one of my 23 y/o female students who didn’t know anything about her except she’d heard the album being played in my office. She likes the whole album but got back to me and said her favorites were #5, 9 and 13. #5 is Scars, so again, it seems to be a song that people get into and like. Will it do well? Who knows. It’s been doing pretty well in a the biggest radio station in the Philipines with absolutely no promotion. Will that translate into it working for her in the US? God only knows, but if she manages to catch people’s attention in other countries while finding modest success in the US, then that’s not a bad thing. Also, not everything is about Top40 radio. There are other radio stations that play other types of music, like HAC. If people hear her music and buy her album, who cares which radio station plays her?

As for Holiday as the first single, I really, really don’t see that song in Top40 radio stations these days. Top40 pretty much hates rock unless it’s from established bands.

  75. Try listening to it as a non-fan.

True. Good advice for all fans. I hope this single does better!

Did anyone see Allison’s tweet about wearing the “No Doubt” dress? (just to piss Simon off) LOL

It was funny…but I would recommend a more rocked out look for her AI appearance!

  76. I think that if you take a listen at what’s out there hitting the radio waves, are there any songs that fill the criteria for an excellent single? Unless you’re into dance music, but even then. It’s politics and leverage between PDs and labels what determine a single’s fate. Otherwise, FIBOU would have been a huge hit – in a nonfan, never heard of Alli point o view.

Hey, those Asian kids from across the world can’t be all wrong, right? Even iTunes hits point to Scars. Even I fell for Scars.

  77. I’ve done the experiment with non-fans of playing the entire album and that song does stand out for some reason.

I do think it stands out and it is good, just that I’m not sure if it will work well as a single. For example I think Kris Allen’s I Need To Know is one of his best song on the album, but I would never recommend it as a single, it’s just too introspective and slow, I don’t see radio DJs jumping with excitement wanting to play that song. They’d probably be worried that their listeners would turn off in droves.

That said, Scars could very well capture the mood of the public and become a hit. You never know, we’ll just have to wait and see.

  78. Scars is slow in the begining but it does pick up the pace, specially in the album version.

  79. Also just to be clear, Scars is not the best song in the album. To me, it’s a good 4th or 5th. I remember MJ posted a bootleg of Scars on the board and a great deal of non-Alli fans liked it.

  80. Look at “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus.. very slow then picks up. That song did GREAT on the radio. I think Scars could easily be a hit. Every single person I share Allison’s CD with loves “Scars”. Most have actually bought the single on iTunes after I shared it with them. FIBOU is just way too teenybop for some. I like it, but I can see why some people wouldn’t be able to relate to it. I think “Scars” is such an excellent choice.

ALSO- When Alli’s album came out, Scars was on the Top 200 songs on iTunes for a little while! That says a lot!

  81. Look at “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus.. very slow then picks up. That song did GREAT on the radio. I think Scars could easily be a hit.

This is so true! …and I think just like The Climb, Scars is easy to relate to and it’s a very powerful/emotional track. I hope radio receives it better than they did FIBOU, though..can’t wait ’til Thursday!! :D

  82. I wish they chose an uptempo song for the next single. I’m sure it will get a huge boost from the idol appearance, but it’s not very radio friendly or catchy like “The Climb” was IMO. I guess I’m in the age group that should’ve appreciated FIBOU (I’m 14) but I thought the song was annoying (sorry). I just thought the lyrics were, uh, stupid. That’s probably why the song failed, not just that it didn’t get radio play. But there are other good up and midtempos on the album. I like Scars but I really don’t think it’s single worthy.

  83. After watching tonight, I still don’t get why Allison continues to be so under-appreciated by the Idol crowd:
1- None of these girls did better than Allison on her first semi-final’s performance (“Alone”); and
2- At the time, Allison was younger than most, if not all, of this year’s girls.
BTW, I am rooting for Crystal.

  84. Sadly, I think I get why she doesn’t do as well with the Idol audience. Just take a look at her and compare her with the other successful female idols.

  85. Hoo boy, I thought the girls stunk it up tonight – pretty boring stuff. There was definitely no Allison there. I miss her. Good thing we’ll see her Thursday!

I thought I would like Crystal more than I did. She doesn’t look like she wants to be there. I think I might get tired of her unless she changes it up. My favorite of the night was Lily.

I couldn’t believe how nice they were to the Epperly chick. I thought she was bad – and she didn’t look good, either! On the opposite end – I thought Lacey was better than they said.

I want to see Paige sing another song. I like her personality.

  86. Do you guys think they’ll have her performance in iTunes? I’d buy it!

I’d love that, but doubt it. They didn’t even have her Time after time duet with Cindy Lauper for sale on iTunes and they will have Kris’ performance from this week up, so two performances going for sale on the same night is probably not going to happen. Too bad, I’d buy it too. I’d love a good HQ live performance of that song.

  87. Allison will kill with Scars on Thursday. None of the Top 12 have the emotional connection that Allison has in her performances.

But I almost wish she was doing a more rousing song like Alone to wake these girls up and show em how its done!

  88. This show made me appreciate Allison even more. That Janell girl tried Heart’s What About Love, which is somewhat similar to Alone, and failed miserably. Absolutely no spark.

    ALR
I thought I would like Crystal more than I did. She doesn’t look like she wants to be there. I think I might get tired of her unless she changes it up.

I think she did well with that song. I don’t think the harmonica was necessary, specially since she has a backing band. Seems like she wanted to show she could do it, but she could have waited for a better opportunity.
As to her personality, she reminds me of Amanda Overmyier (spelling?). She wants the end goal, but some of the stupidity that goes along with it seems to piss her off. It will be interesting to see her in a group number. She has not been a fan of the show, and I am afraid she might not learn the game quick enough. For example, she talked back to Simon a bit. As a rule of thumb, just let all of them yap, specially Simon, unless your comeback is absolutely genius (like Chris Sligh’s reference to Simon’s Teletubies).

But I almost wish she was doing a more rousing song like Alone to wake these girls up and show em how its done!

She needs to plug her original music. I think Trouble Is has that “rousing” effect, more so if done as in the AOL Sessions. I like Scars, but it is certainly more tender/subdued than Alone or Trouble Is.

  89. LDR – It will be interesting to see her in a group number.

Oh my god, I just burst out laughing when I read this… I can’t even imagine her in a group number!

She has not been a fan of the show, and I am afraid she might not learn the game quick enough.

Its true, the learning curve may be too steep for her. At a minimum, someone should fill her in on the story of Amanda Overmyer immediately. And yes, its way too early to talk back to Simon.

She needs to plug her original music.

Right, I didn’t literally mean she should do Alone again, and I know she has to do Scars. I just think those girls need waking up! That was pretty much a snooze fest last night…

I think Scars will be really great, though – I’m looking forward to it. People will be impressed.

  90. I think Scars will be really great, though – I’m looking forward to it. People will be impressed.

    I can’t wait!

  91. Hmmmm, I remember, a long time ago, posting messages on a site that looked kind of like this one… Could it be the same site? No, don’t think so…

I’m a couple of weeks behind, having been sick for longer than that and having a big deadline at work at the same time…

While I wish that Allison was going to get a better spot, i.e. later in the season, I’m thrilled that she’s going to be on to launch her new single! It was time to pull the plug on FIBOU — when it hit its last plateau a couple of weeks ago, I figured that might be the end. Fortunately Jive knew it and is moving on.

As for the new single being Scars… Personally, artistically, I’m disappointed, as the song itself and the studio recording can’t hold a candle to Trouble Is and is fairly far down my list of favorites. On the other hand, as with everything she touches, it becomes a precious gem in live performance (I’ve already said that her performance at KIIS negates my need to ever hear the album version again), so I’m definitely good with having her perform it in her upcoming live appearances — I’m sure they’ll be awesome.

Commercially, as opposed to personally/artistically, I’m going to be very interested to see how it does. Right from the first time I heard it, I was concerned about it being a single, because I imagine her getting a whole lot of criticism along the lines of being a Pink clone. On the other hand, clearly the AI crowd loves it, and thus I wouldn’t be surprised to see it do very well. I can see it being huge on Hot AC (which is her natural home).

And I very much hope that it does do very well. She deserves it.

  92. From Alliholics:

LP33.tv: @AllisonIraheta talks about her Al experience, working with her heroes & her newest album “Just Like You” http://bit.ly/bi4qXz

I hope Allison looks something like this, rather than the NYE or Kimmel look. I think she looks great here.

As for Scars, I can’t wait either. Does anyone recall how guest performers are staged on that little tiny “theatre in the round?” Will she be accompanied by her band, or the Idol band? Or, her album instrumental track? Since they’re trying to promote the single, I would think they would try to make it as close to the recorded version as possible.

Will Allison get any “chat time?” Will Ryan mention the Kradison concert? Mention of the album – big plug, little plug, no plug? Any comments from the judges? Or, will it be, here she is, sing, bye-bye?

Anyone want to wager on whether Ryan says eye-ra-heeta or ear-ra-heeta? My money’s on the ear, not the eye. :)

  93. jordison – I hope Allison looks something like this, rather than the NYE or Kimmel look. I think she looks great here.

Yeah, she does look great there – definitely more mature. I like it. And I like that the dreads are gone, too.

I don’t know what will happen on the show, but I hope she gets a big plug – like at least one of the judges and/or Ryan saying how great the album is. I’d prefer that she just have music in the background – the idol band – or acoustic. Keep the focus on her.

I think I’ve only heard Ryan say ear, so I’d go with that, too.

JohnM – How lovely to hear from you. I knew you couldn’t stay away forever… I basically agree w/ your comments about Scars… not at the top of the my list, but she kills it live. Plus it seems to be really popular – and that’s gotta help, right? Who knows, maybe people will accidentally buy it because they think its Pink!

  94. Best part of tonight’s show:
*paraphrasing* tune in tomorrow for a performance from Allison Iraheta.
    Nobody blew me away tonight.

  95. Nobody blew me away tonight.

Me neither. I’m hopeful about Lee, but even he was pitchy. Mostly I thought the girls were dull and the guys were weird. And Ellen seems like a guest judge. Could be a bad season.

Thank god Season 8 returns tomorrow with Kris Allen and Allison Ear-aheta!

  96. There’s lots of people in the blogosphere reminiscing about the Top 36 from last year and how great Allison (and Adam) were. I like this one from EW:

Let’s face it…Allison and Adam came out swinging last year on their first performances. We knew they were stars from Day 1. No one, I repeat, no one, compares to either of them this year.

Maybe this really is a good time for Allison to be on the show. People are thinking about her and remembering how great she is.
