American Idol season 17 runner-up Alejandro Aranda releases the new music video for his latest single,  “Friends.” It’s the first release from singer’s forthcoming album, The Act of Forgiveness, due out August 27.

“‘Friends’ is a lighthearted song about being in the talking stage of a relationship and not knowing exactly how to say what you mean,” is how Alejandro, who goes by the moniker Scarypoolparty describes the track. “It’s also a song that I self-produced and played everything on. I wanted it to be an honest expression in music.”

The new video features Alejandro strumming his guitar, framed by a bright red filter, as simple animations underscore the sweet lyrics.

“In the circle of your friends/I would try and talk to them/But I’m socially awkward/I don’t wanna be the one to leave/I can find my way back home/Intoxicated by the love you’ve shown/But I’m worried for the future…” the lyrics go.

A press release describes the ambitious 21 track sophomore set, The Act of Forgiveness, as a “culmination of all his styles and influences over the past few years,” adding that “this record is a bold statement to his artistic versatility… Scarypoolparty pulls the curtain on his dynamic and undeniable musical ability.”

The singer-songwriter recently announced a fall tour, opening for  X Ambassadors on their The Beautiful Liar tour. The concerts kick off Oct. 15 at San Diego’s House of Blues. This summer, Alejandro heads to the festival circuit for performances at Summer Camp, Bonnaroo, and Outside Lands.
