In 2010, nine year old opera singer, Jackie Evancho, came in second on America’s Got Talent. Despite not winning the show (singer Michael Grimm was the season 5 winner) Jackie has gone on to make gold and platinum records and embark on successful concert tours.
Now, the singer tells the Today show ahead of an appearance on next Monday’s America’s Got Talent Christmas special, that she’s accepted an offer to sing the National Anthem at president-elect Donald Trump’s January 20 inauguration in Washington DC.
The young singer is quick to point out that she also sang for President Obama, and found the experience so gratifying, she wanted to repeat it. I took the mention as framing the decision to sing for Trump as non-partisan. Word is, Trump is having difficulty finding A list talent to perform at the inauguration. Fitting that he found a reality star to sing the anthem, though.
