America’s Got Talent 2023 returns after a break with the patriotic 82nd Airborne Chorus
After taking a week off for the July 4 holiday, America’s Got Talent returns on Tuesday July 11 with week 6 of the auditions. And what better way to come back than with a preview of a patriotic performance from the 82nd Airborne Chorus!
In the clip that NBC just dropped, the chorus marches out onto stage. So far, the group is very disciplined and formal, until the leader barks out “At ease.” Next, he turns to the judges panel to say, relaxed as could be, “Hey everybody!” It turns out that the group comes from North Carolina and represents the “19,000 men and women that support and serve the Airborne Division.”
The group dedicates their performance to a fallen soldier
The group leader insists the choir is in it to win it and have a motivating reason to sing their very best. The performance is dedicated to a soldier they recently lost, specialist Elijah Crawford, and “all of the soldiers who have passed before him.”
The group kicks off the performance with a call and response march in place, before launching into an acapella performance of The Temptations, “My Girl.” Fronted by soulful lead singers, the harmonies behind them are precise. The crowd loves it! And indeed, the group not only brings lovely harmonies to their performance, but a sense of humor as well.
The clip doesn’t reveal judges Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara and Simon Cowell giving them 4 yeses, but it’s not a stretch to assume that they do. The America’s Got Talent season 18 auditions end Tuesday August 8. The Live shows, including Wednesday results episodes, begin on Tuesday August 22.
America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays on NBC at 8 pm ET/PT.
