America’s Got Talent 2023 Audition: 11-year-old mariachi singer Eduardo Antonio Trevino thrills the judges

Eleven year old Eduardo Antonio Trevino describes himself to the America’s Got Talent panel as a “mariachi soloist.” He’s been singing since he was 3 years old.

In fact, Eduardo recently appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show for Cinco De Mayo where he performed a song and then explained the history of Cinco De Mayo to Jennifer. He has competed in mariachi vocal competitions and also recently sang the National Anthem at a Houston Astros game.

Eduardo’s great-grandfather inspired him

In an early release clip from Tuesday’s America’s Got Talent, airing on August 8, judge Sofia Vergara cheers when he reveals that Vicente Fernandez is his mariachi Idol. “He’s one of the best mariachi singers,” Eduardo adds. But Eduardo’s first inspiration was his great-grandfather who recorded music in 1926 but soon had to give up the dream because he couldn’t earn a living in music.

After a group of musicians join him on stage, Eduardo enthralls the judges and audience with a rousing vocal performance.

“You are amazing,” Sofia gushed afterward. “Your presence, your smile, your personality.” Heidi Klum added, “I love your voice. I love how long you can drag out those notes. Every note you hit is just perfect!” Howie Mandel says, “I always respond positively when you see somebody’s culture come to life on stage,” adding, “I know nothing about mariachi music.” Sofia teases, “How not, you live in Los Angeles!” Howie thanks Eduardo for sharing his talent.

Simon Cowell loved Eduardo’s audition

“I absolutely loved this audition!” Simon Cowell enthused. “I love you. I’m still a little bit shocked that that was you singing, because you’re so young, and you’re like a proper lead singer. You have a natural talent.”

“I tell you what, he really can sing, that boy,” Simon says as Eduardo leaves the stage after receiving four enthusiastic yeses.

Eduardo’s audition comes from the 9th and final audition episode. A clip show reviewing the season and likely looking ahead to the lives airs on Tuesday August 16 on NBC at 8 pm. The live shows kick off on August 22, with Wednesday results shows beginning on August 23.
