The Voice coach Adam Levine and Maroon 5 drop their new single “Maps” today. The song is the first single from the band’s upcoming album, V, set to hit stores in September.

Shortly after debuting the song, Adam spoke with Ryan Seacrest about the song and the band’s upcoming album.

Although the lyrics sound like it’s about not being able to get past a broken relationship,”I think it’s kind of about a lot of things,” Adam clarifies. “It’s complicated. It’s also kind of not giving up on things too. People go through a lot of things and get stepped on and step on others and we all make mistakes … It’s kind of more about not giving up on something, even though maybe you should.”

Adam is “super excited” about the release of “Maps,” even though the band has put out great music since their 2002 debut.

“Every time we release a single, it always feel like the first time,” he explains. “I always get those butterflies. I’m so excited. I feel like I’m releasing a baby into the world … a song baby.”

Plus, the singer confirmed that fellow The Voice coach, Gwen Stefani, would appear on the new album!

“How do you know everything already?” he jokingly asked Ryan after some stammering. “I wanted it to be a surprise, but she is.”
