THE DAWG, Randy Jackson may no longer be sitting on the American Idol judges panel, but he will be baaaack, as the in-house mentor, taking the place of departed Interscope honcho, Jimmy Iovine.
One of the new twists for Season 13 has Randy hosting a two-day workshop for hopefuls who survive Hollywood Week. According to TV Guide, during the two days, the singers will “go through extra education to work on song selection, their images and styles as artists, how to deal with emotional pressure and more aspects of performance.”
“Randy is very much putting this together, and that will carry through to the live shows,” executive producer, Trish Kinane told the magazine.
Awesomely, Randy has chosen to ask popular American Idol alums to participate! That, according to Season 5 rocker, Chris Daughtry, who tweeted a photo of himself with Adam Lambert from the taping!
I wonder if any other alums will be invited to participate? Artists who have been through the Idol machine can offer a unique perspective to contestants about to embark on the same journey
Hanging with @Adamlambert at the #idol workshop. Glad to be back! Stay tuned… http://t.co/aoC6xSFFRt

UPDATE: The mentoring sessions will air on American Idol on Tuesday February 18 and Wednesday February 19. The dates take place during “Rush Week,” when the Top 30 will vie for a spot in the finals. The girls perform on Tuesday and the boys on Thursday. I’m assuming the mentoring clips will air as a package before the contestants perform.
Tune in to @AmericanIdol February 18 & 19, 2014 at 8pm on Fox to catch me and @adamlambert working with the contestants.
