2021 Critics Choice Real TV Awards: Voice, Masked Singer, DWTS Win

Today (June 21) The Critics Choice Association (CCA) and nonfiction producers’ organization NPACT have unveiled the winners for the third annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards, which recognize excellence in nonfiction, unscripted and reality programming across broadcast, cable and streaming platforms.

Because there was no awards ceremony this year due to the pandemic, each of the winners submitted a virtual acceptance speech. Watch them all at the Critics Choice Association Website HERE.

The Masked Singer and The Voice tied for Best Competition Series: Talent/Variety, While Dancing with the Stars nabbed the Best Live Show award.

“We are so excited to accept this award,” said Kelly Clarkson alongside fellow coaches Blake Shelton and John Legend. “We love making this show,” said John, “despite the fact that Blake won, the season was pretty successful otherwise!” (Blake won the spring cycle with R&B singer Cam Anthony)

Meanwhile, season 5 winner Piglet delivers The Masked Singer thank you. In it, he thanks host Nick Cannon, guest host Niecy Nash and judges Ken Jeong, Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy and Nicole Scherzinger. The Piglet was played by singer and reality star Nick Lachey on the show.

And lastly, Dancing with the Stars thank you came from host Tyra Banks. “We are so so so touched,” Tyra says. She thanks the crew, judges, dancers and celebrities. “We work so so hard…” She also thanks BBC and ABC. “I can’t wait for you guys to see season 30. It’s going to be off the chain, like crazy!”

CRITICS CHOICE REAL TV PEER-VOTED AWARDS
The honorees for the two peer-voted awards (Outstanding Achievement In Nonfiction Programming By A Network Or Streaming Platform and Outstanding Achievement In Nonfiction Production) are selected by the members of NPACT, the US association for nonfiction production companies. While the shows themselves are recognized by critics and the public in the other Real TV Awards categories, these awards celebrate the excellence and innovation that happens behind the scenes to create, develop, produce, and deliver every show to the viewing public. Each show begins as a creative spark that is fueled by a collaboration between producer and programmer to ultimately become the finished program that’s enjoyed by viewers. The nonfiction production community has come together, through NPACT, to acknowledge and celebrate the best of their colleagues and collaborators with these two awards.
