LOL, mj, you’re totally right. Looks like their album is now #5 on the iTunes rock chart.

    ETA: Now #4.

  • meyers77

They are a good band. (I tend to like the southern rock genre). I’ve already bought/downloaded all the stuff I can find on them. Look like they would be a blast to see live.

  • Owlgirl

I’ve been listening to their album non-stop since I bought it. Hope they get a lot of exposure from the show, I can’t wait to hear more from them.

  • Nina1

Carpe diem, guys! Good for you!

I love this guy, I love this band!! This has happened with me and all the ‘Bama boys…well, the important ones. Bo, Taylor, and to lesser degree Reuben. Speakin’ of Reuben – I’d take him over the Lusk guy any day. I can’t wait to see what Paul does next….that ending last night sent me to the MOON!

  • BigNLiddle

Absolutely love him and the band, but I hope he’s not doing what Jacob Hoggard did in Canadian Idol 2 and is just in to the show for promotion.

If Paul comes out dressed in a blue spandex suit, then we’ll know for sure.

I bought The Grand Magnolias album a couple of days ago and really like it, especially Heartbreak. It’s #61 on Itunes now.
Paul is very smart to use twitter to market himself, and lucky he got to sing original music on Idol.I’m voting for him, though I don’t know how far he’ll get on the show. He’s certainly getting a career boost at any rate.
Last years contestants weren’t on twitter at this point were they?
Lee’s internet fans know and love his preIdol albums. I think Lee would be selling better now if the general public knew he wasn’t just a paint salesman before Idol.
Paul is also using twitter to promote other musicians he likes, such as Amos Lee and the Civil Wars.

  • blkeener

Paul sounds the exact same live as he does on his albums…and on TV. No joke. That is a rare thing. Though, I’ll admit it is still far better in person. :)

They have been working hard for 5 years. The list of artists that he has opened for or shared a stage with is unbelievable. Somewhere they said last year they had about 250 shows. Sure they play anything from a wedding to a festival to a cruse ship & frat parties…but still.

He does what he loves, what he is passionate about. He brings it and it shows. That’s the heart of a true musician.

I don’t want Paul to win. I really don’t want to see Idol & 19 screw with his music. It’s easier to walk away from idol without the winner or runner-up title tattooed to your face.

  • lili_anne7

I also hope he doesn’t win, because he is so much better off with his band. He’ s not my favorite this season, but i like his original music, and I could see his band being successful.

  • calimari

I really like what I’m hearing from him, and I didn’t notice him at all until “Blackbird” on Beatles night. Hey – maybe his “Take me Home” can be the Idol boot song? LOL.

  • TwigLA

I really like Paul, but seeing this and hearing his band, I’m feeling like I don’t want him to win. THey are just too good together. I can’t help but wonder how the band is doing without him. What will happen to them if he wins or otherwise gets signed?

Of course, if he wants to win, then I’ll vote for him along with my other favorites.

  • musicality

I predict he’s going to win. The front runners never win and right now the judges are kissing Casey, Durbin & Jacob. Paul is a WGWG and he’s kind of cute. Bet you he’ll win.

  • BootStar

Paul is also using twitter to promote other musicians he likes, such as Amos Lee and the Civil Wars.

I already loved him, but now I’m going to buy his album! :-D

I’m quite certain Paul doesn’t want to win the whole thing, but if he could finish third like Casey did last season, he would get maximum exposure for himself and his band.

  • ilovekrisallen39

I downloaded the CD from I-Tunes today, am really liking what I heard so far. I at least want him to make it to the top 5. His one of my favorites right now. I really love his voice.

  • spritely

I downloaded it this morning, and now I can’t stop listening to “Four Fifteen” and “No More One More Nights.” Love, love, love his voice. I haven’t voted since David Cook, but I may have to exercise that voting finger again.

  • cher

I love his voice too. This has been the best year of talent Idol has ever had. Hard to decide who to vote for. His band sounds great. Would be a shame to break them up.

  • Landmd

I think it would be better for him not to win but would love to see him in the top 3! The album is now # 4 in rock, and # 52 on main chart at itunes!

I loved Lee’s preidol music and now think he might of been better off not winning. Starting to feel the same way with Paul him and his band sound good together hate to see that get broken up. They look like a fun band to go see live!
    ETA: Now 45 main & 3 rock 4pm central.

  • Margie

Didn’t Daughtry go right back to his old band when he got voted off? Seems like this is a good strategy for guys that front established bands without contracts.

And that intro video looks really professionally done.

  • abbysee

Speakin’ of Reuben – I’d take him over the Lusk guy any day.

    Absolutely!

ETA: To make this relevant. I love Paul, I think he’s my fave so far.

  • jersey

Daughtry got a new band after idol. They held try outs of some sort and the band members were chosen. If I’m not mistaken and I could be since I’m not a huge Daughtry fan, some of his original band members auditioned to be in “Daughtry” but weren’t chosen.

  • abbysee

Oh hell, I don’t think I’ve ever downloaded pre-idol music. HELP!

  • hoosiermama

He didn’t win me over last night, but this stuff with his band definitely has me interested! Show me more, Paul!

  • Lucy1234

Just starting noticing this guy and what I am seeing I really like. I Hope he stays around for a while on Idol because I want to hear more from him. Love the band – he sounds a lot like Rod Stewart when he was younger. I may have just found my new favorite.

  • chicksineggz

Didn’t Daughtry go right back to his old band when he got voted off? Seems like this is a good strategy for guys that front established bands without contracts.

No, they auditioned people for Daughtry’s band and none of his former bandmates made it. But David Cook’s band has people he’s been working with before Idol.

  • Dlynne

I love Paul and I love his band. They’re the real deal. I’ve bought all of their pre-Idol music. There’s a little difference stylistically between The Hightide Blues and The Grand Magnolias but they’re both awesome albums.

I’d like for him to go deep into the competition to get the exposure the band deserves but I really don’t want the Idol machine to change them. It would be nice if they were signed by one of the majors at some point, though.

Casey James’ previous band members had to audition but they were able to stay together.

Oh, and the album is #44 now.

ETA: If you like the song used on the video “Far From Home,” it’s one of Hightide Blues’ songs from the album “Love Come Easy”.

  • stay4awhile

Count me amongst the Paul lovers! He has such a cool, unique style. I love that “quirkiness” the judges keep referring to, also. Hope he goes far in the competition and with his music career.

  • JJ123

I just bought the album (it’s at #46) and I love it!

On the Daughtry stuff….2 of his old band members tried out and didn’t make it, 2 other guys he knew from the band circuit in North Carolina made it, Joey Barnes and Jeremy Brady, which are the 2 that are no longer with the band, go figure?? haha! Jeremy was replaced with Chris’ good friend Brian Craddock who also had to audition after Jeremy left. Josh Steely and Josh Paul (lead guitar and bass) were seasoned musicians based out of California that Chris did not know at all before the auditions. So if Paul wants to keep his old band he defnitely shouldn’t win or let the record company get any control haha!
