    MJ,
could you please upload for us poor internationals. Personally I would really appreciate the Adam Appearances.

I wish I could get to the Tuesday live taping, but NY is a bit too long of a commute for me.. I’m so very sorry to say :sad_wp:

  • thebluemartini

Ellen’s website says the Kris will be on her show on Tuesday.

  • KrisAllen1

    Thanks MJ

  • clearone

Oooo so much Kradam this week! It looks like Adam’s appearances will carry into next week considering the rumoured appearances on Ellen and The Tonight Show.

Is Adam not scheduled for Larry King again Friday night? I thought I saw that somewhere…..

  • Thea

Clearone- where did you hear the rumours about the Adam appearances? Just to see how real they might be… I am SO hoping! :)

  • KrisAllen1

Adam isnt going on to be on Ellen. That’s why she called him at from her show because he’s not going to be on there.I’m not sure about the Tonight Show either.

when will adam and kris be on idolatry?

  • Thea

I think the three Idolatry (Kris, Adam and Go-key) are due from mid-week, like Wednesday. I remember reading the schedule at the end of one of Slezak’s articles after the finale but I can’t find it any more.

  • KrisAllen1

I cant wait. They give the best interviews.I dont think Adam and Kris will get the questions about the gay issue or how he didnt win.I cant wait for it and
    Sleazak’s hair.

  • clearone

Clearone- where did you hear the rumours about the Adam appearances? Just to see how real they might beà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ I am SO hoping! :)

Not sure where I heard about Ellen but it was in an interview with Adam’s dad where his being on The Tonight Show was mentioned.

  • butte009

Does anyone really care when Gokey does something… unless it is to avoid it? Sorry, but that guy has made my skin crawl since Top 36. He gives me the HeebieJeebies. {shudders} I thought I was finally free of him. I suppose I won’t be able to avoid his impending LensCrafter commercials either.
    Have I shuddered yet? {shudders}

  • anovich

I don’t think there is any merit to the Adam on the Tonight Show thing – this is Leno’s last week as the host and Adam isn’t scheduled – so unless he is going to be on once Conan O’Brien takes over this can’t be happening

  • moody

Does anyone really care when Gokey does somethingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

    I care.

    Thanks for the schedule.

  • KrisAllen1

Gokey will have like two-three shows I can avoid them.

  • Tess

I do hope Danny packs an iron and uses it….I look forward to the Danny stuff so that I can totally ridicule his wardrobe. Even in a tux on the final he looked rumpled and not quite with it.

  • emme

Thanks for the warning about Gokey. I have direct TV and set my DISHPass to “Adam Lambert” and “American Idol” I’m going to have to rethink that if it is going to be automatically recording anything Gokey. Just teasing Gokey-lovers…

  • emme

That should read Dish Network opps!

  • virgo03v

Clearone- where did you hear the rumours about the Adam appearances? Just to see how real they might beà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ I am SO hoping! :)

Adam will go on Ellen’s show in the fall after his album comes out. The winner gets the “talk show circuit” preferential treatment first, and the summer is coming up when they stop taping.

Adam’s dad and Adam did an interview with a San Diego news station that said he was going on Jay Leno. But its not listed on NBC’s website so I don’t know.

  • jz

I am unreasonably excited to see Mr. Slezak’s flaming red hair.

    OH AND.
Wednesday May 27 – Idolatry interview with Adam
Thursday May 28 – Idolatry interview with Kris
Friday May 29 – Idolatry interview with Danny (BRING ON THE LULZ SLEZAK!!!!! HAHAHA. Actually, plz have Kristen Baldwin join in on the interview at some point). This is also the LAST Idolatry interview of the season. Yes, I will cry with you Idolatry fans.

  • hollygo9

I look forward to the Danny stuff so that I can totally ridicule his wardrobe.

My 60 year old father said of Gokey’s wardrobe on the show, ‘Even I know that look isn’t cool’

    Danny, call a stylist.

  • karenw

    MJ,
could you please upload for us poor internationals. Personally I would really appreciate the Adam Appearances.

Also being from the UK I would like to add my thanks to MJ and the other posters here providing links to all the various interviews, appearances etc. This site is my first port of call each day to catch up on my Adam-fix …lol

    Thank you.

  • TKat

The word is that Adam will be on Tonight Show with Conan. (Also, can’t see why Adam’s dad would say he was going to be on the Tonight Show if it’s not confirmed.)

And Ellen has told people that she “had” to put Kris on first, that’s why she did the telephone interview with Adam. Makes sense, Kris did win. I have heard that they are working on Adam being on next week, but it’s not scheduled yet.
Also, the View and Oprah are trying to schedule Adam.

I don’t know what’s going on with Kris because I really haven’t tried to find out — and he’s all over the place anyway.

I’m also told that they’re working real hard to give Kris “some oxygen”. This is my first year with an Idol that I cared enough about to follow so much. Can anyone fill me in on the 19E protocal? Is it typical to put the major push on the winner for the first couple of weeks? Is this what happened with Clay-Rueben?

    Danny, call a stylist.

The hilarious thing is, he’s had the use of a stylist for weeks. Just as I think a PR person would be wasted on Danny, so is a stylist.

  • JB1

I am excited to see everyone, including Danny, thanks for posting MJ.

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

I am looking forward to the Adam on Ellen appearance =)

  • KrisAllen1

    Giving Kris some “oxygen”?

  • virgo03v

Is it typical to put the major push on the winner for the first couple of weeks?

The answer to your question is Yes. If I remember correctly, the winner gets first dibs on interviews/concerts/etc for the first 2 weeks. If you notice, Adam is only doing the shows that Kris has already done or is doing as well.

Adam on Conan would be hilarious. Do you have any idea when this will be?

What do you mean by give Kris some “oxygen”? You mean like time off?

  • KrisAllen1

Where did it say that Adam will be on the view or oprah?

  • virgo03v

Also, the View and Oprah are trying to schedule Adam.

Barabara Walters and Joy LOVED Adam, so i can totally see this. I think Elizabeth was the only one cool towards him.

  • snuffles

    Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m also told that theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re working real hard to give Kris à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“some oxygenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ .

    What’s that supposed to mean?

But, yeah, there is a standard “winners” circuit that Kris will go on. The rest is up to the various shows and media outlets to decide who they want on. And if they want Adam over Kris, then they’ll ask for it.

  • KrisAllen1

TKat-Really its suppose to be the winner gets the push on the talkshow/media but this year its like the Ruben/Clay all over again. :rolleyes_wp:

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

I think Elizabeth was the only one cool towards him.

    Oh shock me not.

  • hollygo9

What do you mean by give Kris some à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“oxygenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ? You mean like time off?

I think that means promoting KRIS ALLEN – THE COMPLETELY DESERVED WINNER and not kris, the guy next to ADAM LAMBERT WHO SHOULD HAVE WON.

  • virgo03v

I know this is off topic, but David Cook is on Jimmy Fallon tonight.

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

This year looks just like last year to me. Adam is following Kris either later in the week or the following week. Just like David and David did last year.

  • KrisAllen1

The last thing Kris needs is to be on oxygen-less media. The TPTB since hasnt gotten it that kris is the WINNER and Adam is the runner-up.Its not surprise these are the same people that didnt show him for four/three weeks. If anything Adam might need to cool it because even i know people who are
sick of “He should of win” and “He was robbed”.

  • clearone

TKat-Really its suppose to be the winner gets the push on the talkshow/media but this year its like the Ruben/Clay all over again

Yep…..and it’s all about ratings…and personal preference of whoever’s show it is. Oprah, I don’t think, has ever hid who she likes and doesn’t like. I think the same can be said of Barbara.

  • virgo03v

I think that means promoting KRIS ALLEN – THE COMPLETELY DESERVED WINNER and not kris, the guy next to ADAM LAMBERT WHO SHOULD HAVE WON.

Kris won, we all know that. lol We have to remember though that just because Kris won doesn’t mean the media can’t be interested in Adam as well.

Kris fans need to get over that and soon. Once Kris’s album comes out, Adam will be the least of his worries… there a whole bunch of competition out there. lol

  • Trina

What Adam is scheduled for I don’t see any different than what Bo, Blake, Kat and Archie got right after the finale. I remember in particular the Davids, Kat/Taylor and Blake/Jordin doing lots of appearances together for the same shows.

  • snuffles

Still don’t know what this “oxygen” comment is about.

  • clearone

If anything Adam might need to cool it because even i know people who are
    sick of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“He should of winà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“He was robbedà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ .

It’s not Adam’s choice to make. You strike while the iron is hot. Sure Adam and Kris are friends, but they both know how the game works. You have to have your face out there while there is a buzz. They are two different artists, in two different genres. There is room for both of them.

  • pookiepie

TKat – If Ellen “had” to have Kris on first, she would not have been able to have Adam on, even by phone, first. Also, Ellen was a Kris supporter. Just an FYI.

  • KrisAllen1

We know the media is interesting in Adam.I think even people who are in china know that. But its winner circuit isnt it?

I still want to know what “Less Oxygen” means but it doesnt sound good.

  • Chipmunk

If anything Adam might need to cool it because even i know people who are
    sick of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“He should of winà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“He was robbedà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ .

H should cool it how? Crawl under a rock? LOL

There is nothing different from last year about the regular interviewing circuit of the winner and runner up. Any body outside that circuit can interview whoever they damn well please!

  • aek

Thanks for the schedule. I’ll be watching Adam and Danny. I find Kris pretty boring in interviews.

  • Truthiness

This year looks just like last year to me. Adam is following Kris either later in the week or the following week. Just like David and David did last year.

I’m not seeing the problem here either. Kris is on the most, and he’s going first. Even the third place finisher is getting some spots. Very typical. People like Bo Bice got onto things that Carrie didn’t, like The Daily Show. Different shows will choose to show different people for different reason. And unless they have a deal with AI where they have to have the winner first or only the winner, I’m not seeing how this hurts Kris at all.

  • meganb

oprah is done for the summer, just like ellen is. so they could be trying to book adam for the fall season when they first come back. so no adam/kris on oprah or adam on ellen at least until september.

the view continues through the summer so you could see the two of them on there. i dont care who the people on the view liked. i hate watching them interview people because they ask the stupidest questions, talk about themselves or just look ridiculous and its mostly embarassing for the people that i actually like who have to sit there with them.

as of the first week of the tonight show, adam is not scheduled. the first week of guests were already released. but i could see adam showing up there in the down time before tour rehearsals because he lives out in california so it could definately happen.

  • http://www.myspace.com/celticfae1974 Skimble7

First…can not to wait to see Kirsten Baldwin with Danny. I hope she can keep her s**t together but then also hope she doesn’t cut him any slack

Second…I will be in NYC on Thursday for the Today Show. Anyone else going?

  • jz

Uhh.. wait, isn’t this like the same media circuit David/David had to go through last year? I don’t see any sort of favoritism in that regard…. o__O

  • Chipmunk

    Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m also told that theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re working real hard to give Kris à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“some oxygenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ .

LOL, they’ll need to! I take it oxygen means prompting/prodding the media to actually taking a little more interest in the winner? Post the show?

  • http://www.irish-wolfhounds.com Buderschnookie

    Oxygen = air= air time.

    ?

  • KrisAllen1

Skimble i might be going to both of there’s in the city .i have off this week and live in long island so i will have to take the train in.I cant wait to see how they sound live!

  • stoplurking

I actually want to see Kris and Adam do interviews together, kinda like DC and DA last year. The DC/DA dynamic was cute in a older bro/younger bro kind of way but the Kris and Adam dynamic makes me happier because they always seem to be happy together :smile_wp:.

I’ve been bemoaning the lack of pre-performance package vids with the contestants. But one good thing with the lack of the package vids is the fact that we don’t know a lot about these contestants’ (namely Kris :smile_wp: ) back stories, why they auditioned, etc. Last year, a lot of people got bored with the same DC sound bytes about his audition and his bro, etc etc because we’d gotten them via the package vids and previous interviews. I’m looking to hearing more stuff we didn’t know about the contestants while they’re doing the media blitz. I just hope people actually ask about questions other than who deserved to win and why Adam lost/Kris won.

  • bean99

    I have direct TV and set my DISHPass to à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Adam Lambertà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

I do the same thing with my favorites. Good thing or I’d have missed Michael Johns on Ellen last week.

I’ll be checking out Danny’s appearances. Not that interested in Kris or Adam.

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

The last thing Kris needs is to be on oxygen-less media. The TPTB since hasnt gotten it that kris is the WINNER and Adam is the runner-up.Its not surprise these are the same people that didnt show him for four/three weeks. If anything Adam might need to cool it because even i know people who are

    um….
What Adam is scheduled for I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t see any different than what Bo, Blake, Kat and Archie got right after the finale. I remember in particular the Davids, Kat/Taylor and Blake/Jordin doing lots of appearances together for the same shows.

This. Seriously Kris is getting the EXACT same media preference that Cook got. There is no media conspiracy to rob Kris of his win, oxygen or mojo.

  • hollygo9

But its winner circuit isnt it?

Sure, but much like last season, TPTB know they have 2 potential stars in the making and don’t want to lose a drop of momentum. Can’t blame them. Two stars are better than one.

  • snuffles

Ohh, it would be AWESOME if Adam appeared on The Daily Show with John Stewart!! I know they’ve mentioned him on the show at least once.

  • adamlover

omg i wish i could go to adam’s taping, but i cant miss work in such short notice…ahhh i hope he gets a good showing, i am sooo miserable i cant see him. i am going thru adam withdrawal!!

  • virgo03v

Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s choice to make. You strike while the iron is hot. Sure Adam and Kris are friends, but they both know how the game works. You have to have your face out there while there is a buzz.

Yup. This is business…. not personal….. LOL

  • jz

I just realized I could go to both the Early Show events, they happen before school starts. And if I cut first period I could go to the Today Show event… Woah. Cool.
    Holla to KrisAllen1 and Skimble7.

Ohh, it would be AWESOME if Adam appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart!!

Oooh, I like the way you think.
Jon & Adam = mindblowingly fabulous.

  • KrisAllen1

If someone heard that Kris is getting less “oxygen” then what does that mean?
Where is the person who brought that up?

  • virgo03v

TKat – If Ellen à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“hadà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ to have Kris on first, she would not have been able to have Adam on, even by phone, first. Also, Ellen was a Kris supporter. Just an FYI.

Noooo Ellen was not. She was TOTALLY into Adam!! She practically screamed Kara’s head off for the judges criticism against Adam for his ROF performance. Now she wasn’t against Kris no, but Adam was her pick. Thats a known fact. lol

  • KrisAllen1

Why does everyone assume that everyone loves Adam? Ellen also said that she likes Kris and supports him to Jamie fox didnt she? I think she likes the both of them. She said that she called this finale 2.Its unfair to say that when
she clearly also said that she likes Kris. She requested Kris to sing two sings when he was only suppose to sing one.

  • snuffles

    Buderschnookie May 25th, 2009 at 12:50 pm

    Oxygen = air= air time.

    ?

Oh, I guess that makes sense.

Well, hey, people have to look at this from the media’s point of view. Adam is the more interesting story. There are mountains of evidence and statistics showing that the public’s interest in Adam is at least 10x that of Kris. If you were a show booker, who would you prefer to book?

Kris being a nice, humble, underdog is just not that interesting. They can’t even work the “super cute” angle because he’s married.

  • hollygo9

just realized I could go to both the Early Show events

Crud, I just realized that I’m going to be in the New York area NEXT week. So close and yet so a-week-too-late.

  • TKat

Like it or not, Adam has a lot of support in his hometown — Hollywood — and from many in the entertainment industry. IMO it hurt him in the voting, but it will help him as he moves on.

pookiepie – I don’t recall that Ellen supported Kris, but I don’t follow Ellen. I just happen to know someone who works for the show. (I would love to see the video with Ellen supporting Kris — would appreciate the link.)

Sorry about using a buzz-word expression. “Give someone oxygen” is used in PR to mean give someone space. If the press is preoccupied with Adam, there is no room to cover Kris — that means that Adam is “sucking up all the oxygen”. It’s really a dumb expression, but like all industry slang if you hear it enough, you stop thinking about how stupid it is.

In the last few days, even though I think Adam did a great job of saying Kris deserved to win and Kris won because he was talented at every opportunity, and never once has said anything negative about Kris, his fans or the voters, the majority of the press coverage was still about Adam. Look at some of the initial Kris interviews — It was almost like they were saying, OK enough about why Adam didn’t win, now tell us, what was it like being Adam’s roommate. (Not trying to be literal — just make a point.)

There is a lot of press and fan interest in Adam: There were more news articles on Sunday about “Adam and Queen” than about “Kris winning”. And since Wed. PM, there are still 5 Adam searches online for every 1 Kris search online. And, Adam is far more popular around the world. Adam has won simulated votes in Malasia, Taiwan, Israel, and New Zealand. Adam’s Greatest Hits Album is #2 on iTunes in the US and Canada.

Look, we all know that TV is all about ratings and Adam is good for ratings. And the Internet is about traffic and Adam is good for driving online traffic.

edit: don’t tell posters what to do

  • KrisAllen1

If i were a showbooker i would want to both of them. There both superstars in the making but from the media’s point of view on one is in the making.Look
at Carrie Underwood. Was she boring? Because she was a country girl who
just wanted to sing but i may not be right because i dont follow her to much.

  • karenw

If anything Adam might need to cool it because even i know people who are
    sick of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“He should of winà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“He was robbedà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ .

You do realise that it’s not Adam who’s booking his appearances on these shows and it’s not Adam approaching the media asking them to write articles on him or interview him.

All Adam’s doing is turning up where he’s told to turn up and sing or be interviewed (it’s part of his contract) ….. like other’s have said he’s not doing anything different to other runnerups … and you can’t blame him for the fact that people are interested in him and want to talk about him.

  • pookiepie

TKat – that link was previously on mj’s blog, but I don’t know how to go back and access things from a week ago.

  • stoplurking

TKat, I liked what you said here:

I am an Adam fan, and I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t measure Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s success in comparison to Kris. Kris deserves the same respect from his fans.

I sometimes catch myself looking at iTunes to see who’s doing better and think, hey, at least Adam’s doing better here or something, to justify all the praise he’s gotten and is getting. But that doesn’t really help Adam or help calm me down. They’re different with regards to their musical styles and shouldn’t really be compared to each other except for the fact that they appeared at the same time on a little show we call AI :smile_wp:.

  • pookiepie

virgo03v, that was 2 months ago – Ellen was a Kris fan one week ago. Sorry, but as you so brilliantly put it, “Thats a known fact. lol”

  • Truthiness

Well, hey, people have to look at this from the mediaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s point of view. Adam is the more interesting story. There are mountains of evidence and statistics showing that the publicà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s interest in Adam is at least 10x that of Kris. If you were a show booker, who would you prefer to book?

But the thing is, that Kris is in fact getting more booking at this time. As well he should be. We don’t know of any others beyond those listed here for Adam. The rest are rumors. As it stands Kris got the Tonight Show and is getting an on person appearance on Ellen, which Adam didn’t get and there are nothing beyond rumor to suggest he’s getting them.

Now I would love Adam to go on Stephen Colbert’s show, that would be great and he did tweet about Adam. Of course he tweeted in a sarcastic way, but still he showed awareness and that’s a good enough start for me. Plus Jon mentioned Adam. Sorry, those are my long time fangurrl crushes and if Adam was on one or both? That would be fantard worlds colliding.

  • KrisAllen1

I thought Kris had 2 songs in the top 10 and Adam 1?

So oxygen just means less media in show business?

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

I am an Adam fan, and I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t measure Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s success in comparison to Kris. Kris deserves the same respect from his fans.

This! Plus one thing fans forget is that AI is over. This is the really real world and ALL of the Idols now have to compete with the entire music business. Tunnel vision on Kris vs Adam is missing the much bigger picture. They are up against a whole hell of a lot more than each other. Idols over, real world started Thursday morning.

  • jz

Crud, I just realized that Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m going to be in the New York area NEXT week. So close and yet so a-week-too-late.

    :(
I’ll be sure to take tons of pictures if I go and share ‘em with y’all if they are worthwhile lols. Don’t know if I’m actually going yet though, so can’t make any promises.

Some have been saying Adam (not sure about Kris) might have appearances next week? So maybe not all hope is lost!

  • TKat

I still want to know what à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Less Oxygenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ means but it doesnt sound good.

    I actually wrote “Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m also told that theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re working real hard to give Kris à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“some oxygenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ . ” And I was quoting someone else, but I happen to agree.

My comment was absolutely not an insult Kris in any way. I actually think that Kris isn’t getting the typical winner’s share of the press partly because Adam is very popular, and partly because of how he responded to the winner’s announcement and in the first 24 hours — he said “Adam deserves this” and then later add to take time to reposition it. Don’t we expect winners to be thrilled they won, thank their fans, then talk about the other guy?

The same thing that I love and respect about Kris, is the same thing that made him seem somewhat outsized by the Finale event. I have been puzzled why Kris fans wrote that it was unfair that Kris didn’t get a big production number like Adam. Did you all really want Kris with Kiss and Fireworks?

snuffles, “Kris being a nice, humble, underdog” is not what he hopes to be known or successful for – it’s about the music. People love his music, and that’s all that matters! People will seek it out whether his persona is attention-grabbing or not. Luckily, he doesn’t have to rely on that and on being controversial to be successful.

  • KenzTK

I thought Kris had 2 songs in the top 10 and Adam 1?

So oxygen just means less media in show business?

Kris actually has 2 and Adam 0 at this point to be precise. At their peak it was 3 for Kris and 1 for Adam.

If i were a showbooker i would want to both of them. There both superstars in the making but from the mediaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s point of view on one is in the making.Look
at Carrie Underwood. Was she boring? Because she was a country girl who
just wanted to sing but i may not be right because i dont follow her to much.

Then you’d be a crappy show booker. :o p. As for Carrie, even though I personally found her boring person, I wasn’t blind to the fact that she was a hot, SINGLE, blond girl with an amazing voice. Plus her being a country music artist helped BIG TIME. The country music industry is enormous, strong and vibrant and Carrie fit right in perfectly.

KenzTK, thank you for posting facts. Keeping things real kind of puts it all in perspective!

MJ, according to my guide and Kris’s twitter he will be on Ellen tomorrow.

Oh about the outdoor tapings..well I went to the Today Show for the David’s last year as well as both their Early Show tapings. IMO The Early Show tapings are much better for a good view and you don’t have to hang around for hours to get a good spot. TES performances are done on this area right in the center of the platform outside of the CBS studios and the way its set up you circle around it. You can even stand on the steps that lead up the area. I’m having a hard time describing this but trust me its much easier LOL The Today Show is a huge pain in the ass because you can camp out there by Rockefeller all night and still not end up with a good spot because they let a shitload of VIP’s in first and it’s more crowded because its two people so double the fans and it’s also more widely advertised.

  • KrisAllen1

As someone said in a differant blog post about Kris not selling.

-He is good looking and photogenic, which sells
    - He was the underdog who won, thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a compelling story
    - Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s got some mad skills singing and arranging music
    - He just won American Idol, tvà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s top show, over hundreds of thousands of others who tried, he just joined the other 7 who have achieved this
    - Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a humble, honest, likable guy

I think everyone knew that Kris wasnt going to be treated or respected like a winner. It was clear cut from the finale.

In an ideal world it WOULD be that simple. We shall see. He could make the most amazing album in the world, but it won’t make a bit of difference if it doesn’t get enough publicity. And part of that is generating enough media interest.

Even dull ole’ Carrie Underwood had endorsement deals and tabloids talking about her looks, fashion and love life to keep her present in the public mind. Not to mention booking TONS and TONS of appearances. Luckily, the country world ate her up.

And yes, I bet all those points make for much media buzz once the finale is over………………………….NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Tess

At this point I don’t give a rat’s ass who won American Idol. Like other’s have said that ended Wednesday night. I like Kris but I won’t focus on him, if I catch an interview or happen to see a performance that will be nice but nothing special. I won’t search him out on YouTube or google his name. No interest there.

Adam, on the other hand, is the guy I’ll focus on. I won’t google “American Idol” to find out any information on Adam…why should I that is over and done with. It’s Adam against the world, now, and I want to watch the journey. And, I kinda get this feeling that I’m not the only one out here in blogville that feels this way.

NOTHING in life is fair! In my opinion Kris doesn’t deserve anything special for winning the title, as Adam wouldn’t have deserved anything special, it wasn’t like they ran the fastest or jumped the highest or broke any olympic record. They just got votes in a reality contest.

Now, for me, its all about Adam and how he interacts with the media, and the fans, and others in the industry to see if he can climb this entertainment industry mountain. He’s going up one side and Kris is going up another, and the other finalists are really all taking different paths to try and reach the top. I’m going to enjoy seeing if Adam has enough stamina to finish the climb.

  • virgo03v

virgo03v, that was 2 months ago – Ellen was a Kris fan one week ago. Sorry, but as you so brilliantly put it, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Thats a known fact. lolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

so basically what you are saying, is that ellen has liked Adam for 2 months and has only liked Kris for a week…. that sounds about right…… We finally agree on something. :)

    Exactly!!! So much word!

And from Thursday, the media can cover whoever they want to or not..I dont see what the issues are personally..this is small stuff..the AI bubble is over

  • virgo03v

I think everyone knew that Kris wasnt going to be treated or respected like a winner

Kris is being treated as the winner. Its naive though to think people are going to forget about Adam and just drop him altogether. That makes no sense.

  • virgo03v

And from Thursday, the media can cover whoever they want to or not..I dont see what the issues are personally..this is small stuff..the AI bubble is over

    You would think. lol

  • KrisAllen1

I highly doubt that Ellen just started to like Kris a week ago.

  • KrisAllen1

virgo-even some adam fans said that Kris isnt getting the winning circuit like the past idols got.It also doesnt make sense to say Kris is being treated like a winner. If i didnt follow the show I would think Adam was the winner which he isnt.

  • lavender1960

Ellen has been supportive of both Kris and Adam from what I have seen and she is just that kind of classy lady that she wouldn’t disrespect anyone. I believe she was leaning towards Adam or certainly expected him to win. I expected Adam to win. She was and is a big fan of Michael Johns and not too happy when he was eliminated last year. I can’t remember now, she was leaning towards Cookie in the finale last year wasn’t she? She is a woman of wide musical tastes as most of us are.

I think it is likely wise to not overestimate or underestimate the potential of either Kris or Adam at this time. It is early days for both. We haven’t heard their new albums yet nor will we until fall of 2009.

19 Entertainment is going to pimp both boys as heavily as they can right now because they have an American Idol tour to sell out. Wonder how sales are going?

I don’t know why people are saying Kris isn’t getting the winner treatment, I mean the pink thong story on TMZ alone means they are already digging into his personal life, but when I look at those list of appearances posted up above, I see Kris has more than Adam which makes sense.

It is interesting that Cookie and Archie did a lot of joint appearances after their Idol run. You could argue that took away from Cookie and gave Archie an added boost but they have done just fine in the end.

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

KrisAllen1- Really and for truly Kris is getting the winners circuit. NUMEROUS people have said that on this thread. And Adam is getting what Archie got last year. I was a Cook fan, voted my ass off, and I had NO problem with Archie making the rounds. He was totally talented and 100% different from Cook and I wanted him to succeed just as much as Cook. Much like Adam and Kris.

You are looking at outdated results. The real results are those on the iTunes homepage. Once you click on the list for some reason it is a little outdated.

Adam has been overtaken at the #10 spot by Pitbull’s “I know you want me”.

Adam’s iTunes album has held very strongly at number 2 pretty consistently, giving more evidence that he had the most buzz from start to finish of the competition. But Kris’s most recent performances have been much stronger as singles. ‘Heartless’, ‘No Boundaries’, ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’, ‘What’s Goin’ On’, and even ‘Apologize’ have all been very strong, showing that late in the competition he really did come on strong and fast.

One more small correction, Kris’s album peaked at #4.

His personna is part of the entire package he brings to play in the industry. Part of being successful is keeping the buzz going, staying in the news, generating interest. The public is fickle and moves on extremely quickly- that’s why the field is littered with one hit wonders who are on top of the world one day and a VH-1 joke the next.

I suppose I could think of some artists who are successful while still keeping a low profile, but it isn’t easy.
    Songwriters, yes, but performers?
    Anyone?

The business is hard and winning AI is not a golden ticket to success- it is an opportunity.
They still need the ambition, energy, and drive to push, push, push and never let up- they have to be seriously assertive about it or the chance will pass them by. It’s a hustle every day for new artists.

It almost doesn’t matter anymore. First comes the tour and then it’s time to show and prove when cds are released. Then we can truly see who has the goods. Until then, this is all just noise.

  • Thea

Only slightly off-topic: isn’t it funny that both the last two Idols went to audition to accompany their brothers? weird

  • JenG

LOL. How can anyone in their right mind think that Kris isn’t being treated like a winner?

He’s been on the Tonight show and is going to be on Ellen AND Jimmy Fallon. All three of which neither Adam (or Danny) are going to get to be on.

There’s no conspiracy here. Kris won and is being treated as such. Plus, he’s doing better on iTunes than Adam right now. TPTB know they have money makers in BOTH Adam and Kris, but Kris is still the winner. No matter how many questions he gets asked about it being an upset.

That being said. I’m really sad that Adam won’t get to appear on Ellen or the Tonight show (at least while Jay’s still on it). Both Danny and Adam got a little screwed on that account.

Especially Ellen. Since they both would have gotten a chance to sing.

  • wand3rful

im so confused, what are we talking about? why adam is getting as much or more press as kris,? or why is danny getting any press? LOL ( i kid, i kid…i’ll leave danny alone)

oh, the media loves to jump on any story, makes sense to grab adam (the guy the show and the judges pimped as a winner since march). of course, by him not winning, it would make an interesting story. especially given the speculation over his sexuality…meaning the media can now spin this into something political. we all expected adam to take the title….now i should note that thinking adam would win, is not the same as believing adam should win. so coming up second provides journalists a golden opportunity to run away w. the conspiracy theories.

after a cpl of weeks, this will all die down and in the end, their albums will be the only thing worth talking about. crossing fingers neither gets screwed by the idol machine

btw, i too recall ellen mentioning kris’ name several times as a favorite…not just recently. and sorry, im a not going back to watch 2 months of ellen to prove my point LOL

  • praepos

Happy days are ahead for Kris. The records will sell–he fits right into the current scene and crosses several lucrative genres, including country–and his family life will sustain him. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.

  • Kirsten

virgo-even some adam fans said that Kris isnt getting the winning circuit like the past idols got.

I think this is revisionist history.

Here for reference is the same article a year ago.

Here I’ve pulled out the relative scheds for Cook/Archuleta:

Monday 5/26 – AI Season 7 Top 10 appear for a special performance show on Larry King Live.

    Tuesday 5/27 –
David Cook appears on the Live with Regis and Kelly
David Cook appears on The Ellen Degeneres Show

    Wednesday 5/28

David Cook appears on the Morning Show with Mike and Juliet, FOX
David Archuletta appears on Live with Regis and Kelly

    Thursday 5/29
David Archuleta and David Cook appear on The Today Show
Syesha Mercado appears on Live with Regis and Kelly.
David Archuleta and David Cook appears on MTVà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Total Request Live.
David Archuleta appears on Mornings with Mike and Juliet.
David Archuleta appears on The Early Show.

    Friday 5/30
Syesha Mercado appears on Mornings with Mike and Juliet.
David Cook appears on The Early Show.

The only differences I see between this year and last year is that last year, both David’s went on “Total Request Live” (a show which has since been cancelled) and Kris get’s to do “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” which neither David did during this week last year.

Based on that, I see no significant difference in treatment between this year and last year. In fact, it would seem that Kris is getting more “oxygen” because if TRL was around, I’m sure the would have had the Idols on too (if they had Hicks on, they’d have the Kradem dynamic duo).

  • virgo03v

And, I kinda get this feeling that Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not the only one out here in blogville that feels this way.

omg i wish i could go to adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s taping, but i cant miss work in such short noticeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ahhh i hope he gets a good showing, i am sooo miserable i cant see him. i am going thru adam withdrawal!!

I’m hoping to see him on Colbert. He has a lot more music guests and maybe he could do a duet with him.

I agree that Kris come on strong in the last few weeks of the competition. I just wanted to point out that Adam’s album has been selling and why buy an Adam single if you are buying an album that has the song on it?

Also I choose to use the iTunes 24-hour roll because it’s closer to a traditional music chart. It’s what they put up on the UK/Euro iTunes site. It avoids some of the strange sales spikes that happen after a major promo event/appearance. I haven’t seen any of the in the AmIdol sales but it has occurred for other artists. (And I can’t says that I am so nuts about AmIdol that I follow every chart move!)

  • virgo03v

virgo-even some adam fans said that Kris isnt getting the winning circuit like the past idols got.

Name 1 show Adam has been on that Kris hasn’t?? I can name 3 Kris is getting that Adam isn’t.

    1. ellen
    2. jimmy fallon
    3. jay leno

How is Kris’s media coverage unfair again???

  • lavender1960

Again I think people are judging Kris too soon.

Now that he has the brass ring, he will gain more confidence and experience. Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood and Jordin Sparks did not have the kind of panache that say David Cook or Adam had right off the bat either, shoot Jordin was just 17, but David and Adam are not typical because they were not exactly new to show business either. All new recording artists have to learn the art of PR.

Just because Kris does not have the shmooze like Adam or David Cook, yet, does not mean he isn’t just as ambitious. A lot of unassuming artists are very ambitious and successful. Everyone has their own style and thank goodness or it would be boring, and often that is part of the appeal and sometimes that depends on the genre. Heavy metal rockers and many rappers are not expected to be as erudite or charming as perhaps pop singers. Sometimes the more obnoxious the better.

If I were a PR person I would have thought Archie would be a nightmare but the fact of the matter is his core fanbase doesn’t care that he is shy and bit goofy, and many find that endearing, I do now, didn’t before and he has visibly improved his media skills over one year. And Archie is a lot more ambitious than people think he is – I don’t believe it is just his parents that drive him. If you love to sing you need to have an audience like you need oxygen.

  • virgo03v

Thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s no conspiracy here. Kris won and is being treated as such. Plus, heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s doing better on iTunes than Adam right now.

No he’s not. Kris is doing better with singles, but he has a new one out plus he won so thats expected. Adam is doing better thank Kris with album sales, and he’s doing better with music video sales. Its like comparing apples to oranges, but Adam is doing just as well on Itunes if not better.

The same complaints were aired last year, with Cook fans complaining Archie was stealing the limelight. Deja vu all over again.

  • CindyM

Kris won, WE get that. He’s got first dibs on all the shows. They were all on LKL, only Kris got the solo interview. What are you saying, that Adam should stay out of the limelight so Kris can shine? Kris should be able to shine on his own without Adam hiding under a rock. The guys seem to genuinely believe in each others talent and neither one of them fail to compliment the other on their skills. I don’t see what the Kris fans gripe is regarding the media coverage. I agree with the other posters that this AI Buzz won’t last forever, all the contestants have to seize every opportunity they can. The real test will come later.

  • lavender1960

PS Colbert is really getting some cool musical guests, whaddup. I caught Green Day on the other night, I thought I was catching the tail end of one of the talk shows but no. The satirical conservative dude is getting hipper musical guests than Stewart? That’s my boy, Stevie Colbert.

    Tuesday 5/27

David Cook appears on the Ellen DeGeneres Show.

    Wednesday 5/28
David Archuleta appears on Live with Regis and Kelly.
David Cook appears on Mornings with Mike and Juliet.

Exactly, everyone knows Adam’s stuff from the beginning of the season and they want it because it was the highlight of the first few months of the competition. There was no buzz around Kris at the beginning so they would most likely pick out individual songs that they loved. I think we basically agree here. ;)

  • TKat

The business is hard and winning AI is not a golden ticket to success- it is an opportunity.

Very well said. We’ll see how it goes for Kris. He’s so low-key I can’t tell if he is passionate about becoming a success or not. He went to the audition because his brother pushed him to go. He stayed in the competition because his wife told him that you have to keep going.

From US Magazine (May 22, 2009):

Kris Allen might not have won American Idol without the encouragement of his No. 1 fan: his wife, Katy.

“My wife has been the [best] support ever,” Allen tells Ellen DeGeneres. “I seriously almost gave up a lot, and she was just like, ‘You have to keep going.’ She believed in me more than I believed in myself.”

I don’t know, it just makes me wonder. I can’t remember one successful, happy entertainer who wasn’t the one with the drive to succeed. I hope this works out for Kris.

Kris fans: please don’t bash me. I am really not being negative about Kris. It’s just that he is such a class act, and has been really open about who he is. So I guess that entitles us to worry a little about him. In other words, I really lilke Kris and want him to succeed if that is what he wants. So far, all that I have read is that he wants respect from the music industry.

  • chrgi

Kris Allen doesn’t need and won’t need to have a huge personality or speculation inducing backstory to get press. Every single American Idol gets a record deal worth millions of dollars and labels that will put out all the stops in the hopes of moving product. Kris will have plenty of buzz when it’s most important, regardless of whether the media CW was behind his win or not.

Now whether the “oxygen” or whatever will translate into sales will be determined by the music he makes. I happen to think that for Kris, it won’t be a hard sell (and honestly I think this is why Kris survived to win Idol despite being overshadowed by larger personalities). However, it’s WAY too early to make any predictions on future success or failures.

For example, Taylor Hicks had crazy press coming out of American Idol. He was one of People’s Most Eligible bachelors, the Soul Patrol was in full force. I was around MJs to see how a lot of familiar commentators deeming Tay-Tay the next Elvis, Ray Charles, international superstar, etc. He was going to sell 2 million albums at a minimum and sell out stadiums because he was such a compelling performer (sound familiar?)!

Well reality check: His music did not catch on well enough with the American people and those ridiculously high expectations were not met.

I’m not too worried about Kris. Sure right now “Adam’s loss” is a hot topic now, and it feels like Kris is being pushed under the radar, but the media hoopla will eventually die down and that means there will be a pause in the fan pissing contests. He just needs to ignore the irrelevant stuff and do his own thing.

I think if he continues to perform No Boundaries like he did for Ellen, his first single will do well. As it is, it’s getting play on both HAC and Pop charts and it debuted in the 20-30 somethings for radioplay. We’ll see if it can continue to get more spins. I agree with Buderschnookie, the business is hard and you need to hustle. I don’t see Kris sitting on his ass though. And if his AI run proves nothing else, it shows he knows very well that if he wants to succeed, he’s going to have to bring it.

  • karenw

I totally agree with those saying that both Kris and Adam are now out in the big bad world of the music industry and they have far bigger fish to compete with than each other .. both for media attention and for record sales.

Once the whole post idol circus has settled down a lot will be down to them. Their agents can get them bookings to give them exposure but basically a lot will be down to what they can produce musically and how the present themselves in interviews and how they can keep that interest in them going (I mean musically, not who can be at the centre of the most scandal for the gossip sites to feed off …lol).

Like Simon said the future’s there’s and both guys will no doubt take all the opportunities they can get.

Thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s no conspiracy here. Kris won and is being treated as such. Plus, heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s doing better on iTunes than Adam right now.

No heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not. Kris is doing better with singles, but he has a new one out plus he won so thats expected. Adam is doing better thank Kris with album sales, and heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s doing better with music video sales. Its like comparing apples to oranges, but Adam is doing just as well on Itunes if not better.
    —————————————————————————

Maybe everyone already bought more of Kris each week as they came out. Now that it is over you would expect the album bum to be Adam :tongue3_tb:

I don’t think he meant that he thought about giving up on the show. I think he was talking about her encouragement on making a career of music pre-idol.

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“No heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not. Kris is doing better with singles, but he has a new one out plus he won so thats expected.

Doesn’t Adam also have a version of No Boundaries available for download?

It always comes as a surprise that the top prize is not all that it’s cracked up to be. The winner gets a ton of confetti dumped on him or her–but that’s about it. Both of the top 2 get contracts, both get hyped, both get press, both get cars, both get launched. After the new season begins nobody really cares who won the year before. My guess is Adam will do well. He’s not everybody’s cup of tea–he’s certainly not mine–but he’s a great entertainer. People will buy tickets. Liberace redux.

“Noooo Ellen was not. She was TOTALLY into Adam!! She practically screamed Karaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s head off for the judges criticism against Adam for his ROF performance. Now she wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t against Kris no, but Adam was her pick. Thats a known fact. lol”

    - You’re right. Even in their telephone conversation, Adam was thanking her for the underwear gift which only means that Ellen likes Adam. Adam was her favorite early on during the competition. Adam cannot appear on Ellen because 19E decides on who appears first. Now that Ellen will be on leave during summer, Adam’s appearance will be this fall. I bet there are a lot of TV shows who would like to have Adam on their show but since it was Kris who won, they have to get Kris first and give him the winner circuit.

  • JJ123

oh geez, I naively thought that this would be the first year that fanwars could be really low seeing as all the contestants seem so happy that it’s over and totally fine with the results. Of course Kris gets a couple more appearances, these shows are prescheduled for the winner regardless of who they are. I do think Kris is actually in a tougher spot because with every one of these appearances he has to prove himself worthy of the title, he has the media odds stacked against him and he realizes it and is handling it very well. Adam may have a smidge less TV things happening this week but in a few months he’ll be getting the same treatment as if he had won….the only thing he misses out on is the title which can be both a blessing and curse. I love Kris and voted for him (not crazy vote, like 20-30 times maybe) but I’m also looking forward to seeing Adam on these shows and hearing what his album will sound like….it’s all good this year!

    Well said chrgi.

Let’s even look at Ruben Studdard. Mr. Unassuming. Did he tear up the charts Carrie or Kelly style, no? But the reality is the kind of sales Ruben has attained in his chosen genres are still numbers that thousands of artists including some established ones right now would kill for. His debut was almost double platinum, the second album was gold. Not sure how he is faring now but if you can make a good living at something you love to do, what more can you ask. A lot of my favourite established artists are not selling 1 million albums these days, fewer artists are. People always use other Idols as the benchmark which is understandable if you are 19 Entertainment and forking out the dough but the reality is if compare them, even Taylor Hicks, to the rest of the industry, they are doing more than OK.

If The Davids still had fanwars, give up hoping they will ever go away. The contestants may be fine with it but fans on both sides get fixated. It’s silly.

I go back to listen to the adam dad interview again. I think Jeff&Jer said something like’ i know you both are gonna be on leno this week…” and adam said later this week will be on larry king.

so i think they originally think that both kris and adam would be on leno, which obvioiusly didn’t happen. and for runner up, i dont think adam will have a seperated time on tonight show…

  • GeminiDolly

With Kris, I know exactly what kinda stuff he will make and hes very radio friendly and could do extremely well with it. Adam?? I dont get him yet. Is he rock? Is he pop? is he techno? What is he going to do? I dont think he really knows what hes gonna do because he keeps saying he wants to just put a little bit of that, a little of this and Im not sure how thats going to turn out. But I cant wait what he comes up with. It could be Genius or a complete utter disaster. Good luck.

  • lavender1960

The fact Kris says he wants respect from the industry tells me he is willing to work hard to get it, because you have to in order to earn it.

Some artists could care less about respect, as long as they sell lots of units, they are happy to take the money and run. See Paris Hilton. And really who is buying her music. I don’t get it.

  • Tess

Oh, and don’t forget part 2 of Larry King Live tonight which isn’t live and doesn’t have Larry King….but, what the hell!

That’s not necessarily true. They’ll book whoever they think is interesting. During Season 6, Leno booked Sanjaya for a sit down interview. So did Jimmy Kimmel, and The Today Show and whole other slew of entertainment shows. Why? Because at the time he was the hotter story.

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

Adam?? I dont get him yet. Is he rock? Is he pop? is he techno?

Adam is Adam. From a style standpoint, check out stuff like Cobra Starship, Muse, MCR, The Darkness, Mika since I think we have seen Adam do songs that would be representative of all of them.

  • justshootme

I guess I’m out of the loop. Does who gets more appearances on these day time talk shows matter? At all? I don’t watch any of these shows. I certainly wouldn’t base my music purchases on who does or doesn’t go on Ellen, etc. I could give a shit who any of their favorites are. So does like Eminem do the early morning show circuit? Really?

I do catch Letterman occasionally. Please go on Letterman Adam.

  • chrgi

I think Adam has more of a chance to big very big, because he’s a bigger risk. I have a feeling he’s just going to put everything on the table and I think it will be interesting to see. 19E and his future label are not going to drop the ball on him.

I wonder if he’s going to perform that new song that they posted up on iTunes, Is Anyone Listening? His No Boundaries is a single that was put out to radio too (I think), but I really doubt he’ll do it (and I think even though it’s not a contest anymore, I think it will be very counterproductive for both idols to be trying to sell the same song).

  • virgo03v

Doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t Adam also have a version of No Boundaries available for download?

He does, but its darn hard to find, plus it isn’t being pushed as much as Kris’s. lol I was surprised to see it on Adam’s official RCA website. I do know that Adam’s video of no boundaries is selling more than Kris’s. The point is, that NB is Kris’s song. Mad World is selling the most for Adam (single-wise), which is not surprising to me.

Adam’s album is steady at #2. I’m trying to remember if no boundaries is part of it. If it is, then it makes sense. Why buy just a single when you are buying the whole album?

  • virgo03v

well with it. Adam?? I don’t get him yet.

I and a whole lot of other people “get” him. I’ve bought all of his music thus far, and can’t wait to download his album too.

  • Susan M.

Yeah, this talk show schedule is a little ridiculous. I have to admit I wrote to the “Ellen” show voicing my outrage that after realizing that Adam would not be on (and I LOVE Ellen and the show, so I feel a little bad about that).

I’ve been waiting for that all season. I was pretty sure it was a directive from AI and I knew Ellen would be going on hiatus any minute, but I thought, “C’mon guys, Adam Lambert is the biggest ‘get’ there is, couldn’t you have done something to work this out? Take an extra day before going on vacation!”

It really seems like the second- and third-place finishers get shunted because the winner is doing his or her victory lap. I also kind of see them changing their formats up a little for Adam. Ever notice (particularly with Leno and “Regis & Kelly”) they barely speak to the musical acts? It’s like, okay, preliminary chit chat, intro – SING – then a cursory follow-up. They rarely ever sit down with them. I do see Adam (probably more so in the future) inspiring a little change with this because he’s such a great interview.

Well, the more I get to see him, the better. But sheesh, I’ve been permanently saving so much of him on my DVR, I’m not going to have room for anything else before long.

  • virgo03v

Letà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s even look at Ruben Studdard. Mr. Unassuming. Did he tear up the charts Carrie or Kelly style, no?

lavender1960, I wouldn’t compare Kris to Ruben unless you want Kris to also lose his recording contract……. Grant it, Ruben got another one, but it hasn’t been good year for the Velvet Teddy Bear regarding cd sales…….

  • virgo03v

To be honest, its better for Adam to go on Ellen, Jay Leno, etc in the fall. It’ll be after the tour, and that way he can promote his album. Timing is everything.

  • AC

I think all the appearances and everything was set before the outcome was revealed but there probably wouldn’t have any more appearances until the tour is over because don’t they have to start rehearsals soon? As far as media is concerned when the excitement dies down and they have to promote their album, I see there are 2 totally different venues that they will go to. For example, I don’t expect Kris to get the cover of Rolling Stone but I think he might end up on a cover of some teen magazine and vice versa for Adam. They’re just so different that you can’t market them the same way.

Anyways, I have Kris and Adam’s appearances set on my tivo. Danny? pass…

  • karenw

Is Anybody Listening isn’t a new song .. it’s a song he performed in the musical The Ten Commandments a few years ago and I presume it’s taken off some cast recording from the show.

I very much doubt he will sing that on his media rounds as it’s a musical theatre song from his past so they won’t be using that to promote him now as that’s not the route he’s going down.

I would imagine that he’ll sing one of the songs he sang on AI.

  • GeminiDolly

Yes. Typically, both the winner and runner-up make a tour of the talk shows (including Ellen and Leno) when their albums are out. That’s when it’s most important for making a big impact for their careers/albums.

There will be a big round of events in November/December when the Idols are promoting their singles/albums (everything from DisneyWorld parades to the Christmas Tree Lighting to Any Talk Show that will have them). Sometimes, there are summer concerts for ABC too (and a few private functions like the Walmart and Ford shareholder events). And lots of local press during the summer tour. November/December are when it really counts, though. If they are successful with their first single, they may continue to get invited to the talk shows for their second singles.

  • Tess

I wonder if heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s going to perform that new song that they posted up on iTunes, Is Anyone Listening?

This isn’t a new song….far from it. It was Adam’s solo during his run in the stage musical Ten Commandments with Val Kilmer (and that has always seemed odd to me…Val was only good as IceMan in TopGun and then it was downhill…oh Willow wasn’t bad, I digress). I guess someone associated with the production passed it on to Itunes and someone is getting their 50 cents from it….(hopefully Adam gets a bit). The song is actually quite good, very theatrical (as should be expected per it’s source) and received about the only positive reviews that were penned about the production.

  • Sydia

Expectations for Adam are really high. He has the media and internet buzz. This, however, doesn’t automatically transfer into success in the real world of music. The truth of the matter is that Kris and Adam were the best of S8 bunch. Kris has an unassuming presence. This transfers well into the real world. Young people are more likely to listen, purchase, and admit to liking someone like Kris. He is not you typical American Idol. Adam, on the other hand, is getting that crazy fanatic fanbase that makes this poor kids the laughing stock of the music industry. I don’t see cool young kids wanting to admit they are Adam fans. I know this seems harsh, but I’m pretty sure it is a factor in the trajectories that both of these guys careers will take.

  • lola

Yes. I’d like Adam to do a mixture of songs rather than sticking to one genre. It’s kind of boring if its only pure pop or ballad or rock. It’s like a concert type of thing where you get to sing different songs. It will be like a party album. If you only sing ballad in a concert, everyone might go to sleep. Just like everyone else, I will be first in line.

With regards to i-tunes, I would be more interested in looking at the overall sales. I-tunes sales changes on a weekly basis. There are a lot of people who have bought singles and albums early on (remember the first i-tunes release which was supposedly have been a secret and Adam has 7 singles in the top 10). So I am not surprise if Kris singles or album are only catching this week or in the weeks to come. But that weekly sales is not a good basis for me. They should release an overall sales figure for the pre, during, and post AI season.

  • awilliams

So far, all that I have read is that he wants respect from the music industry

I think all serious musicians and singers want the respect of their peers, after all through their peers they will receive word-of-mouth recommendations.

You know, not all stars have fabulous interviewing skills or personalities. Years ago Dick Cavett had John Lennon and Yoko Ono on live for a few days as co-hosts. At the time I was younger and easily impressed by any ‘star’ in the music industry. I saw this interview again more recently as a middle-aged adult and was quite bored by Lennon. He went on and on about himself. I felt he was bloated with a sense of self-importance.

It seems as a number of stars once they’ve made the big time take their own PR and themselves way too seriously. I don’t think that will be the case with Adam or Kris. They seem like genuinely engaging people to interview and once the AI hoopla dies down they will be able to pursue honing their skills in the industry.

I like Adam and Kris and will support both. I look forward to what each will do.
I don’t really watch many of the dytime talk shows – most are just silly questions and gossipy stuff. I DO like Michael Slezak alot .

  • lola

I hope Adam will do a new song in the Early Show – something like Come Home.

  • hollygo9

He does, but its darn hard to find…

    ;

Alright, I’ll play. Hard to find?
Enter Adam Lambert in the search and No Boundaries the single appears in the album section (upper right) and in the ledger entries (bottom half)

Or click on the giant Adam Lambert banner on the top of the home page. You go to Season 8 Favorite performances. In the right hand column, under Top Songs is No Boundaries.

Of course, you can also type No Boundaries into the search and retrieve both versions information.

It also appears on the home page in the Top Songs section.

It is incredibly easy to locate this item unless you don’t know the name of the song and the artist.

Sorry about using a buzz-word expression. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Give someone oxygenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ is used in PR to mean give someone space. If the press is preoccupied with Adam, there is no room to cover Kris à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ that means that Adam is à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“sucking up all the oxygenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ . Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s really a dumb expression, but like all industry slang if you hear it enough, you stop thinking about how stupid it is.

Tkat: I’m glad you cleared that up because I was going to say it sounded kinda like a belittling PR-spin comment to me and was going to ask for a source.

This. Which is why I want Adam on Colbert Report and TDS, not because I worry about his ‘beating,’ Kris or Adam getting his due as some sensation, yadda. I want Adam on shows I like and normally watch. I would love to see how Adam and Stephen Colbert in his CR personality, get along. I think Adam could be one of those guests that really rolls with what Stephen does and could play off the fakey Conservative schtick well.

Basically it’s all about me and my enjoyment needs. :happy_tb: So with Kris, I wih him nothing, but the best on his coronation rounds, but unless Adam joins him I’ll miss them because I find him a pretty boring interview. Kradam on the other hand? made of win. Kris is a sweet guy, I want him to be successful, I like some of his music, but he still mostly bores the crap out of me in his interviews. But MMV and there are plenty of interviews for each, so everyone has something to be happy about.

  • lola

“I love Adam, but Im not buying NB. Its that bad.”

    - I like Kris too but I’m not buying his single NB. It’s too dull. It’s a matter of taste. I’d like more strong emotions in a song and not that one that will make me sleep.

Can’t say that there is a single line in this post that I agree with. As for Adam’s fans…I don’t see them as being quite as fanetic as some earlier Idol fans since Adam is far from a teeny bopper Idol. I would imagine that a few parents might get upset if their 11 year old was hanging out on an Adam site considering that Adam doesn’t seem to have the same vibe as say a Jonas Brother. Just my silly, opinion.

  • Susan M.

Sydia, I see what you’re saying but really don’t agree. You say that Kris, with his unassuming presence will translate well to the real world. Okay. That could be the case, but neither is a guarantee. I like Kris a lot, but I think what might be working against him is his teeny-bopper appeal (which completely contradicts your next statement that kids won’t think it’s cool to like Adam because he’s “too popular”).

I have a difficult time taking Archie seriously because of his Disney, Tiger Beat look/feel, and that’s no reflection on him as an artist. It’s just that he’s so pre-fab in the safe, perfect heartthrob package and few people over the age of 13 have any interest in that. Kris is a good singer/songwriter and he may have to struggle to get past the cutie-pie image and be taken seriously in the industry.

Adam already has chops and there are multitudes in the industry that do take him VERY seriously already. And if he doesn’t have the tween vote? Who cares? There has already been a seismic shift in the music industry with the advent of digital music. Now people of every age are buying music, not just some narrow demographic, because we have so much more freedom to find and define what we want. We don’t need to got to the mall and buy a $20 CD, we can pick up our devices and push a few buttons and there it is.

I think it’s a myth that teens wore their fingers out voting for Kris. The same was said about Archie–and he lost. In both instances this assumption has been false. Both Kris and Archie in fact have widely diverse fanbases. It’s true Archie’s label has deliberately targeted the teens–that’s become his niche in his drive to be successful in a highly competitive marketplace. It’s a highly lucrative field so he’s wise to go there if he can do so without alienating his more mature supporters. But Kris projects an older image and I doubt he would want to go where Archie’s going. Besides, he’s a totally different kind of singer. Archie has developed into a high-energy performer who bounces around the stage creating excitement. Kris is far more laid-back. He’d put the kids to sleep.

Sad to say my home-made Adam Lambert dual CD that I pass out to friends and relatives will not have the natural disaster song added to its playlist. Adam is just going to have to suck-it-up and forgive me for this. I just have too much pride to “give” this horrible song to anyone and have them judge Adam on this crap.

  • cookcricket

    Look
at Carrie Underwood. Was she boring? Because she was a country girl who
just wanted to sing but i may not be right because i dont follow her to much.

KrisAllen1: I’m pretty sure Simon commented on Carrie’s lack of personality, but I think things turned out pretty good for her. LOL.

I don’t get why everyone is saying Adam WON’T be on Ellen, Leno, Letterman, whoever. Of course he will be! It’s just not on the schedule now. For crying out loud, it’s only been 5 days.

Contractually, those shows always have the winner on first.

There’s no call for people to get indignant on his behalf. There will be plenty of Adam on the TV for a long time to come.

  • GeminiDolly

The Natural Disaster song was so bad a “song” I wasn’t gonna buy it (either by Kris or Adam – no one can salvage that garbage), but then I looked at the preview and remembered how hot Adam looked in those pants and just downloaded it from iTunes. :-p

‘Thats my concern. Will Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s music be something that gets played on radios? I hope so.”

    - It will get played, you’ll see. There are a lot of DJs who were also rooting for Adam as there are also lot of them who likes Kris. With or without radio, there are other venues of promoting a record – TV shows, internet, and one thing which Adam can do best – a solo concert.

I won’t worry to much about the radio play time since I don’t listen to the radio too much. I’m more of a visual person.

I wouldn’t want either Kris or Adam to be defined by NB. And as vast an improvement as Kris’s acoustic version of the song was on Ellen, as will be televised this week (to bring it back to topic), the song is still dreck. I mean, it’s better performed dreck. I think Kris is able to connect to it in a way that I don’t think Adam has/would be able to. But it’s still like really bad Chinese food. If one thinks about what one’s consuming, it causes quesiness, and one forgets it five minutes later. Thankfully so, to my mind. I look forward to Kris’s being able to use his skills for doing his own music. Not covers of others, like even his good vversion of “Heartless,” but original songs of his and with some good production values behind it.

As for Adam, I just never want him singing that song ever. It’s bad enough they put it out at all, when he should have been spared that by not winning. Even as an Adam fan, I can’t make myself buy this. I guess there are boundaries (hee) to my fantardom.

  • JenG

Expectations for Adam are really high. He has the media and internet buzz.

Adam’s biggest problem is that no matter what his debut album sounds like, he’s going to leave a lot of dissatisfied fans in his wake.

With Kris, we know what kind of album he’s going to put out. I get the feeling I’m going to enjoy it and it will sell well. Because he has a nice voice, he’s cute, he connects well with his material and his type of music is very popular right now.

Adam, on the other hand, is just getting set-up for a major let-down. As much as I love Adam, I’m still not 100% certain on what type of album he’s going to release. He’s said what he wants it to sound like but we can only assume. It’s not like we have any real-world comparison, like we do with Kris.

Adam has MUCH higher expectations to live up to than Kris. I keep seeing interviewers and fans saying, “I can’t WAIT to buy an Adam Lambert album.” Which is great (and I totally agree!) but when you’re put on that high a pedestal, there’s really only one place to go. And unfortunately, that’s down.

All that being said. I really can’t wait to see what Adam puts out. Which, lol, is exactly my point.

The same complaints were aired last year, with Cook fans complaining Archie was stealing the limelight. Deja vu all over again.

What? Now that sounds like revising history. I don’t remember that at all. David Cook had plenty of thunder last year, there was no lack of media or tv for him, there was nothing to complain about. He did great from the very start. At least I sure never complained. Why even bring this up again? This is 2009, move on.

  • Tess

Thats my concern. Will Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s music be something that gets played on radios? I hope so.

I am so far out of the “loop” as concerns radio and radio play that I really have some questions. Who listens to local fm radio stations? What I know and observe….

My car (probably typical for a newer model) is equipped with a 6 disk CD changer, an MP3 player, Satellite radio, and the standard am fm radio. If I get into the car I usually have my CD collection with me on a long drive. Hence, no radio. If I go on a short drive I may play my Satellite radio and will pick stations that reflect my interests without commercial interruption. And these stations are not the usual top 40. I find out new music by word of mouth from friends, the internet (such as AOL, You tube) or when I worked I would listen to music my colleagues had downloaded and would then go hunt for the song or artist. Sometimes I hear a song on a TV show, or a “talk” show and will search for it that way. I do not casually listen to the radio at all. Do people still do this….or do they download what they want to hear not what they are forced to hear?

  • Layla

Expectations for Adam are really high. He has the media and internet buzz. This, however, doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t automatically transfer into success in the real world of music. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t see cool young kids wanting to admit they are Adam fans. I know this seems harsh, but Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m pretty sure it is a factor in the trajectories that both of these guys careers will take.

I, the mother of two teen daughters, 16 and 19, totally disagree with this. My daughters hate AI and think it is totally cheesy. I tie them up and force them to watch MJ’s vids sometimes…they think Kris is so boring and think Adam is friggin’ awesome. Both of my daughters LOVE music and are quite picky about who they listen to and put on their ipods.

I just cannot imagine kids their age thinking Kris is cool considering gis demeanor and his background…no way.

They thought Cookie was so lame until they saw him do Billie Jean. They actually think his album is really generic with the exception of BBSol and they think Permanent is very pretty- but I think it was the background of the song that got to them. They like his voice but prefer his pre-idol stuff.

For those who are not sure what kinds of music Adam Lambert might record, I would recommend goign to his MySpace Music page and listening to the first song after No Boundaries, Kiss and Tell.

    http://www.myspace.com/adamlambertmusic

  • lola

Let’s just wait for their records to come out. Who knows…Adam may come out with a country song while Kris will do hard rock.

  • cmheart

Let me join the chorus. Another Adam fan here who you cant pay to buy NB.

    Its complete crap, both Krisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s and Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s

    I would have to agree.

Though…apparently American’s like their crap because both of their songs are charting fairly well (well at least Kris’). Though I’m sure the momentum of the show is helping for now. That Glee Cast song has been in the 1-3 slot since the show aired. Is that really one of the most popular songs in America right now?

I find it interesting that throughout the entire season, the judges criticize the contestants for not showing enough artistry or originality, then after the show is over, they force them to record and promote the most unoriginal, unartistic songs imaginable. There has to be a better alternative to this.

  • Layla

The reason I know that Cookie is my first love still (sorry Adam but you are a CLOSE second and I love you dearly) is that I would have bought NB by Cookie. LOL

  • lola

Higher expectations is better than no expectations at all. Adam is a risk taker. He will take the challenge.

  • JenG

For those who are not sure what kinds of music Adam Lambert might record, I would recommend goign to his MySpace Music page and listening to the first song after No Boundaries, Kiss and Tell.

I love Kiss and Tell. Not even gonna lie. Actually I love a lot of Adam’s pre-idol music. But I’m having a hard time deciding if I like it because it’s Adam. Or I actually think its good. lol

  • justshootme

JenG, I agree with your post. I think Kris is much more palatable to the masses and will slide easily into a pre-existing niche. I think he has a really good chance of mid-levelish success in the current market. More of the same. Good for him though.

I think Adam has a riskier path. But has more potential to be the. next. big. thing. And hey. No guts no glory. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

  • 77amy77

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think he meant that he thought about giving up on the show. I think he was talking about her encouragement on making a career of music pre-idol.

Thank you. I keep seeing that article mentioned with the implication that he almost gave up on Idol, when it’s pretty clear in the context of the interview that it was pre-Idol he almost gave up on his music.

I think ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a myth that teens wore their fingers out voting for Kris.

All Kris fans I know, myself included, are twenty-somethings. The impression I’ve gotten is that both boys have very large diverse fanbases, but that Adam probably has more teenage fans than Kris.

I don’t care how many interviews Kris and Adam do. All I ask is that the interviewers start saying something new. Asking Kris about his ‘shock win’ and asking Adam about his ‘shock loss’, coupled with the implication that America got it wrong or is homophobic or whatever, is getting boring. I know that it’s the big media hook for the season at this point, but it’s not nice for either boy, especially considering how much they adore and respect each other both as people and as artists. I.e. More Jay Leno style, less Larry King Live style (and I hope tonight’s show is a little better).

  • Sydia

I didn’t mean kids as teeny poppers, but more as young college kids. I really don’t see Kris as a teen star.
I just think that all the hoopla about Adam vs. Kris is irrelevant until, of course, their music comes out. As of now, though, and this is going on what they did with covers of songs, Kris is kind of artist that is being played on the radio. He is safe and cool, because he has a mellow sound and an unassuming presence that puts the focus on his music instead of himself. Young adults buying music nowadays seem to gravitate towards this kind of artist.
That being said, Adam is buzz worthy, great to look at, and just very interesting. He has the AI crazy fanbase that helps them get their foot in the door, however, is not going to sustain the kind of career that we hope for the future for our idols. I wanted Kris to win a little more than I wanted Adam, but I liked both guys. However, after seeing Kris’s reaction to the win, I wish Adam would have won.

  • justshootme

All I ask is that the interviewers start saying something new.

Unfortunately this is probably too much to ask. They’re still asking Jason Castro about his dreads.

  • Tess

Considering the “stuff” that I hear at my daughter’s home or in her car this doesn’t ring true in my family. I can’t even understand a single word on some of the stuff her and her friend’s listen to (and they are in their mid twenties). But in all fairness she did introduce me to Jack Johnson, whom I love.

  • cookcricket

Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s album is steady at #2. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m trying to remember if no boundaries is part of it. If it is, then it makes sense. Why buy just a single when you are buying the whole album?

It’s not, I just checked. It’s not on Kris’s either.

  • justshootme

Personally I think everybody should’ve just boycotted both these coronation singles. Purchasing them is just encouraging TPTB to pull out more of this shit next year.

Not telling other posters what to do here. Just voicing an opinion. But it would’ve been awesome to have them sell like zero copies. Viva la revolucion.

  • lola

Enough of this i-tunes, who’s on top or who’s on #8. It’s just weekly sales. It’s not the overall sales. So it’s useless to use this as the basis of who’s getting more i-tune sales. You have to take into consideration those who have bought their i-tunes early on. Why would I buy it again this week when I got mine four weeks ago. Are we all on the same page?

  • Kirsten

I tie them up and force them to watch MJà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s vids sometimesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦they think Kris is so boring and think Adam is frigginà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ awesome. Both of my daughters LOVE music and are quite picky about who they listen to and put on their ipods.

I do something like this too. I don’t have any teenagers, but what I do is a catch and release on the neighbourhood teenagers. I find that nachos and Wii remotes are the best to use as bait. Once I capture a teenager, I do a bit of quality control by first checking their iPods. Any kid with Kenny G or Phil Collins on their iPod gets tossed back immediately. Sure, some of them try to claim that their mother’s were borrowing their iTunes account or that they were just being “ironic”, but I never buy those stories.

Anyway, for the ones that pass the “cool” test, I put them in a cage and make them listen to the entire Season 8 Idol catalogue. I think many of them are Gokey fans because they all seem to be able to do his anguished scream long before I even get around to playing “Dream On”.

I have developed a specialized ranking scale. Like the Glasgow Coma Score, every song gets a minimum score even if it’s dead and rotting already. So, the default, in this case, is a rating of 1, even if the child has a GCS of 3 by the time the song ends. If the kid stops rattling the cage trying to look for an escape route, the song gets a rating of 2. If the child stops moaning/crying/screaming/threatening for any length of time while the song is on, the song gest a 3. If the teenager avoids rolling his eyes for the duration of the song, it gets a 4. If the child is found to be humming the song later, the song gets a 5. If the child asks me to put the song on his/her iPod, the song gets and 11.

So far, I’m getting pretty mixed results. Nobody has asked for any downloads or been found to be humming any of the songs, but I have gotten some stunned silence for Megan’s songs. I guess Kara was right and Megan is the most commercial, package artist of the lot.

Meanwhile, the police are starting to catch on to me, so this may be my last post for a while. The local authorities just don’t seem to appreciate how important this show is and how critical it is that we immediately find out which Idol will sell the most.

  • Jx223

I look forward to seeing Danny’s interviews.

Kris is kind of artist that is being played on the radio. He is safe and cool, because he has a mellow sound and an unassuming presence that puts the focus on his music instead of himself. Young adults buying music nowadays seem to gravitate towards this kind of artist.

You mean the cool mellow sounds of Black Eyed Peas “Boom Boom Pow,” or the soothing sounds of Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face,” or people like Flo Rida, Beyonce and Soulja Boy?

At least with Adam with his Fonzerelli version of “Kiss and Tell,” and original “Pop Goes the Camera,” I could see he might have a hit in today’s top 10 with a good production team.

Other charting stars like Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus don’t sound like Adam, this is true, but they also don’t sound like Kris either. So no advantage to Kris there.

Both Adam and Kris are going to have to fight the market as a whole, and probably a tough economy where people are spending less on music. So for both of them, it’s going to be a tough sell. I do agree that Adam has the potentiall for bigger boom and bigger bust. But that’s part of the reason I really like him. He’s willing to take risks and more power to him for doing so.

  • chrgi

I’m a 20-something college student, and Kris Allen would fit in just fine with the Ben Folds, Gavin Degraw, Vienna Teng, Sara Barellies and John Mayer (among others) on my ipod. Just sayin’…

Adam is a toss up for me. Kiss and Tell is okay, but the dance stuff I like is more hip hop/rap oriented, e.g. T-Pain, Akon.

I’m not gonna pretend that I’m representative of the American public at large though, LOL. But Kris or Adam get on Top 40 (or even urban hip/hop but I’ll be surprised) and it’s good, then I’ll buy it. But Kris currently has my 16.99 atm.

  • JenG

It’s important because in a few days Billboard is going to publish this last weeks sales. And a lot is going to be made over who had more singles on the Top 100. They aren’t going to release the figures on who sold more over the season (at least I don’t think they ever have.)

And people are going to compare Kris and Adam on ONLY this previous weeks sales. And people are going to take that as a precursor to who is going to do better over all.

In the entertainment business, perception is everything.

  • justshootme

LOL Kirsten. I’ll know where to look if my teens “go missing”.

On second thought, feel free to keep them as long as you like.

  • clearone

I know for a fact Adam wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be on Jimmy Kimmel because JK hates him. He disliked it when celebrities came on his show to talk about Adam because JK is a huge Danny Gokey fan.

Never say never. JK constantly mocked Clay until just before the AMA’s in 2003 and since Kimmel was the host and Clay was a nominee it’s rumoured TPTB made Kimmel have Clay appear on his show. Clay has been on many times since then and they appeared to get on famously. How can JK hate Adam when he doesn’t even know him? He might not like Adam the performer, but he doesn’t know Adam the person.

Okay, here are the top 10 selling digital songs since 2005 (thanks to 2m over at Pulse). What I love about this list is that there is a lot of variety on it. I don’t think that’s it is dominated by any one style and I think that’s fantastic. As a teenager myself (I’m 15), I don’t think that will be an issue. Kris’s laidback coffeehouse style is actually very popular right now.

Adam, on the other hand, is much more difficult because he has high potential to be labeled a poser. He actually has a lot of crazy older fans, which could really hurt him. Teenagers generally don’t want to go to listen to someone – much less go to their concert – if they are associated at all with fans over 30. I don’t mean that in a bad way at all, by the way. It’s just a fact.

  • lurksalot

Kris is kind of artist that is being played on the radio.

I’m just not understanding this statement at all. On what type of radio — AC? All I know is that I only listen to top 40 radio, KISS.fm to be exact. And I don’t recall any music like Kris’s. More like Lady Gaga and Britney.

  • chrgi

The Fray? Plain White T’s? Jason Mraz? I’m seriously wondering whether some people who comment actually listen to Top 40 regularly.

EDIT: There’s room for Lady Gaga and Colbie Caillat on pop radio (although I’m sure the latter crosses over to HAC as well). So I don’t see the big deal as long as the music is good.

  • Tess

And people are going to compare Kris and Adam on ONLY this previous weeks sales. And people are going to take that as a precursor to who is going to do better over all.

Until I came to this site I had never, ever heard of a radio play chart, had never looked at an itunes sale chart, and hadn’t really cared about top 40 or top 100. Am I abnormal?

Do people really choose to support or listen to someone because they sell the most or are played the most? That’s like saying you’ll choose which TV program to watch based on its ratings and not it’s content. Are we really that shallow as consumers?

  • justshootme

Adam, on the other hand, is much more difficult because he has high potential to be labeled a poser. He actually has a lot of crazy older fans, which could really hurt him.

With AI demagraphics being what they are, I think they both had to have a lot of “crazy older fans” to get as far as they did.

KIIS fm plays way more hip-hop and dance-pop than most Top 40 stations. The majority play Jason Mraz, John Mayer, The Fray, One Republic, etc. along with the Lil Wayne and GaGa.

    ETA:

With AI demagraphics being what they are, I think they both had to have a lot of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“crazy older fansà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ to get as far as they did.

True, but it’s hurt a lot of contestants after the show. If Adam has older fans showing up at his concerts, he will have zero credibility with the younger crowd.

  • Truthiness

Adam is a toss up for me. Kiss and Tell is okay, but the dance stuff I like is more hip hop/rap oriented, e.g. T-Pain, Akon.

For me it depends, I will admit that I, uhh [small voice] have liked some Britney, Xtina and now Lady Gaga dance songs, [/small voice]. I know they are utter dreck and without any value. But they can be fun to listen to, hum and excercise to. Which is all I ask for in my pop songs. If I want more than that, it’s not found on pop charts.

I think that Kris isn’t any less niche than Adam at this point with his music. I think both have models to be popular and both run the risk of doing only okay. But as someone else pointed out earlier, even OK with Idols can still be pretty good. I wish the best for both. Both artistically and financially.

  • RemusL

Sydia, I don’t know what radio stations are in your city but neither Kris nor Adam (nor frankly most current or past Idol contestants) makes the sort of music that’s most prevalent on the majority of the Top 40 stations in the Toronto area. Hip hop and R&B is dominating the musical tastes of the younger set these days. Even established pop/rock acts find it advantageous to collaborate with artists like Akon, Ne-Yo, Timbaland, JT, KanYe, etc.

Why do you think American Idol invited Black Eyed Peas, Flo Rida and KanYe West to perform on the show? Yes, Kris got a huge response to his cover of “Heartless” because (a) it was a KanYe song, and (b) it was outstanding, but unless he’s putting out a record of hip-hop inspired originals and covers, it’ll be a real challenge to get radio play. Having the corporate clout of RCA promoting him will help a lot though and that’s why winning AI was so vital for him.

“Lola – Letà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s just wait for their records to come out. Who knowsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Adam may come out with a country song while Kris will do hard rock.”

Or Kris will write songs for Adam, or Allison will have Kradam as flyboys in her music video with Kris with spiky, pink hair- do and Adam in drag and killer eyeshadow.

While I am at it, I had another thought. Kris could be the new judge! He is cute, he can write songs and sing. He will be nicer and will actually be constructive and insightful instead of merely exibiting TV big-O moments at all the inappropriate times.

Expectations were high for Adam through out the whole season. He delivered anyway IMO.

I went to Adam’s MySpace and got a glimpse of some pop music he might put out. I likey! I had to stop NB from playing automatically. It is just painful. Seriously, I bought NB performance video by Adam (sorry I ruined your boycot!) because I am having Adam withdrawal, and the video is shorter than the studio version and therefore less painful, and I can mute it while I drool over his pants (LOL). But I swear not to infect anyone else by passing the video on to anyone.

I stumbled into a place on YouTube where someone provided links to download “Pop Goes the Camera” and “Kiss And Tell” as well as “Crawl thru the Fire” and now they are on my exercise playlist. I would have purchased them if there were up for sale somewhere legitimate. Adam’s MySpace had Buy button but nothing happened when I clicked. There is also “Glamorize”. This one is, well, oh my. It made me think all sorts of impure thoughts. LOL. I was only looking for “Crawl thru the Fire” video to verify that the sparkly gold boots he wore for Kiss performance were indeed from his underground club performing days as he said in one of his interviews. They are indeed his. :-)

  • chrgi

Truthiness, don’t be ashamed. I think I have Circus and Womanizer on my iPod. And I’m *this* close to buying If You Seek Amy. The songs are catchy! XD

Lady Gaga is like TI for me. They get so much play on the radio that I don’t feel like I have to buy their stuff because I hear it so much it’s ridiculous (and kind of annyoing). And I do not get Katy Perry at all.

    Here’s a different sound.

    http://www.imeem.com/groups/MyNJxdOM/music/4z6c6a8p/the-citizen-vein-nocturnal-by-the-moon/

A lot of people are still unaware of half of Adam’s youtube videos judging from views. He’s covered a ton of genres over the years from classic rock to alt-rock to glam-rock to motown to soul to pop to electronica to acid-rock to metal to art-rock to psychedelic progressive rock to ambient funk to opera to the blues…

Adam said his album will be mixed, that’s what he’s striving for. He’s said numerously he’d love to bring an album compiled of a selection of sounds to the charts. No doubt he will still want to take risks and constantly evolve (male Madonna people) but I can’t see him going against the market, especially during his first year. I can see him easily initially doing rock/pop in his own way.

They should, but just like they don’t release the vote totals I doubt they will release the sales totals as well.

Why do you think American Idol invited Black Eyed Peas, Flo Rida and KanYe West to perform on the show?

I’m not sure guest slots can be used as evidence for much. They also invited Frankie Avalon, Rod Stewart and KISS to perform. Rod is the only one to have had a recently successful album and that was of covers.

I don’t recall AI ever having a real rapper even make the semi-finals. It may make them more relevant if they did (although, rap is seeing the largest percentage loss in sales of all the genres), but I’m not sure what that would do to the television ratings. I know that they’ve never had a rap theme and I would be surprised if they did (granted, given the success of “Heartless” they may want to consider a “hip-hop” theme one year. Just make sure that the kids know they should re-arrange the song). So, it would seem that all Idols are doomed to failure since they are not BEP, Flo Rida or KanYe (and I can’t think of any I would even suggest should try that genre), but I don’t buy that.

I think the musical world is larger than that. They’ll likely never have the successes of BEP, Flo Rida or KanYe, but some of them will be able to make a go of it.

Do people really choose to support or listen to someone because they sell the most or are played the most? Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s like saying youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll choose which TV program to watch based on its ratings and not ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s content. Are we really that shallow as consumers?

Cold hard truth? Yes. And even if YOU don’t decide what to buy based on airplay or sales, the labels? They care. You can’t buy what is not put out. Idol has a loooong history of dumping Idol alumni.

  • skylight1219

I don’t pretend to be an armchair quarterback when it comes to who is going to be the more successful. Time will tell. And, just for the record, even though a DJ may love either Kris or Adam, they no longer have any say so in whose songs get played. Unless, it’s on a request line.

Neither do I think we can say which age group is more for one than the other. I think it’s a nice mixture for both. Everyone has different tastes in music, and that’s the beauty of different styles. Personally, I hate Lady GaGa. Don’t care for Katy Perry either. Guess I’m just an old fuddy dud, but, I like something that is easy on the ears and you can sing along with. I also like something once in a while where you can just get up and dance.

The local authorities just donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t seem to appreciate how important this show is and how critical it is that we immediately find out which Idol will sell the most.

Ok, the GCS is officially the funniest thing you’ve ever written, Kristen.

He actually has a lot of crazy older fans, which could really hurt him. Teenagers generally donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t want to go to listen to someone – much less go to their concert – if they are associated at all with fans over 30. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t mean that in a bad way at all, by the way. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s just a fact.

Oh, you try to tell people, but they will never, ever understand that “being the new Claymates” is anything but embarrassing for their object of love. I still get a bit embarrassed admitting I’m a David Cook fan (mostly crappy album notwithstanding), lest people think I wear bunny ears and make him scrap books. Way to lower his cool factor by about a million.

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

True, but ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s hurt a lot of contestants after the show. If Adam has older fans showing up at his concerts, he will have zero credibility with the younger crowd.

Odd. I see teens at concerts I go to. And I am 40. I don’t seem to keep them away from my Green Day, Cobra Starship, Fall Out Boy etc etc etc.

And I have a 15 year old. Her friends have no issue if us dinosaurs listen to the same music.

  • Tess

John Mayer is the best selling itunes artist ever.

Once upon a time there wasn’t such a thing as Ipods and Itunes and computer downloads…yup I’m thinking that maybe as little as 5 years has passed since this new technology came into vogue. And, you know what, I bet a lot of people over the last 5 years have been buying their CD’s off the rack at their nearest “record” store. Measuring anything by Itunes downloads isn’t quite coming to terms with real life and real success.

I would hazzard a guess that the over 30 generation is really just embracing this new technology where the 15 to 30 bunch have been dealing with it for a long time….so everything will skew to a false demographic.

Those of us old foggies who, apparently, shouldn’t show up to concerts if we want our favs to succeed, have been through so many different types of musical devices that it’s scary. I’ve bought my Pink Floyd albums so many times that I think I made millionaires of them all by myself.

“Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s important because in a few days Billboard is going to publish this last weeks sales. And a lot is going to be made over who had more singles on the Top 100. They arenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t going to release the figures on who sold more over the season (at least I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think they ever have.)”

    - If that’s the case, then Billboard is irrelevant. Any thinking person would not measure success on the basis of weekly sales. Weekly sales changes every week. It has to be overall sales. But if we have a history of the weekly sales during the idol season up to the present then that will fairly gauge it.

    - I wouldn’t be shock if the coming weekly i-tune sales will be Kris on top because it was only now his fans are buying whereas Adam fans had theirs right after he performs.

  • skylight1219

Aw, yes, Carrie Underwood, she of little personality and stage presence, just happens to be the top selling idol of all. (to date) Seeems some people just like good music. Kris could very well turn out to be the male counterpart to Carrie. Time will tell.

I’d hardly say that Kris is the typical idol. There’s Ruben, Fantasia and Taylor, none of whom you’d call mainstream.

  • jlc

I do catch Letterman occasionally. Please go on Letterman Adam.

Last year I kept waiting for David Cook to go on Letterman but it never happened, and still hasn’t to this day…(as far as I know, and I’m a pretty faithful Dave viewer)

  • chrgi

Billboard posts weekly sales but they should also post total sales as well. Do the non-NB AI iTunes songs get counted?

  • Calliope

Man, I was here with my figurative popcorn. Media comparisons, itunes comparisons, demographic comparisons, radio comparisons, fanbase comparisons, etc.

For what it’s worth, I think Kris and Adam can both do well, but I think Adam’s style lends itself more to SUPERSTAH levels if he does well. He’s quite Top 40, chameleon pop star. Adam’s style also lends itself to falling on its ass more though, which I hope doesn’t happen for his sake. Kris has a good niche as well, but he is more likely to get lost in that one, but could still do well. Neither are going to be directly competing with each other (just in the fans’ eyes, apparently).

So as a twentysomething, urban, indie-type living in hipsterville… I want Adam to be my new pop tart. I cannot speak for others in my group because they probably don’t even watch AI, but if they did it would probably be in a post-modern, ironic way (which I kinda did myself until I got sucked into the Adam Lambert show).

I seriously cannot wait for the Idolatry episodes either. I am curious as to how awkward Danny’s will be.

  • jlc

MJ: maybe this has already been mentioned in this thread and I’m too lazy to look, but, according to Ellen’s website, Kris is going to be on tomorrow (Tues), not Wed.

  • mellodrone

Hello, I’m hoping to get more information on a couple of Adam’s/Kris’s upcoming TV performances…

    “Thursday May 28
    * Kris Allen and Adam Lambert appear on the Today Show, NBC 7-9″

The Today Show is on from 7am-11am. Do we know for sure that the guys are on from 7-9?

“Also, the CBS Early Show will be taping performances with Adam Lambert on Tuesday May 26 and Kris Allen Thursday May 28 in New York City. ”

According to my DVR program grid, Adam is performing on Tuesday’s show. Is the Early Show taping a longer version to air on another day?

    Thank you!

  • Violator

“True, but ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s hurt a lot of contestants after the show. If Adam has older fans showing up at his concerts, he will have zero credibility with the younger crowd.”

I get what you’re saying, but I think the ‘young crowd’ that listens to The Fray and John Mayer, etc., are only cool in their own minds. Or maybe in Bizarro World.

  • jlc

Can anyone fill me in on the 19E protocal? Is it typical to put the major push on the winner for the first couple of weeks? Is this what happened with Clay-Rueben?

I can’t speak about Clay-Reuben but last year with Cook-Archuleta they sometimes appeared together but more often than not, Cook would appear and then a day or two later, Archie would follow.

  • http://myspace.com hgzaj

MJ – on Larry King will it be the entire top 13 or did you mean the top 10?

  • Trina

I just don’t buy the logic that since Adam must have been wracking up sales during the show that means his fans already bought everything after the performances first aired. Take a look at the charts that were tracked last season. DC was often the top seller of the season, and the numbers that came out after the finale reflected that. Come this Wednesday I’m expecting the same thing. Adam will most likely have the most downloads with Kris most likely having the top Hot 100 debut with NB, and even that I’m not sure will be a huge number or a terribly high Hot 100 position.

  • JenG

Except Billboard ISN’T irrelevant. People pay attention. And I agree, It’d be more interesting to see who sold more over the season. But we don’t have that information and all we have are the last weeks sales.

People also have short attention spans. They care more about how well Kris is doing right now than how well Adam has done for the last 12 weeks.

  • anna in vegas

I bought NB performance video by Adam (sorry I ruined your boycot!) because I am having Adam withdrawal,

Same here GlamGirlLee. I am an ADAMant Adam fan and will buy everything that is released by/about Adam. As far as him not being radio-worthy, I tend to totally disagree there too. My daughter and her friends are driving all over Las Vegas playing their homemade Adam CDs and non-Idol music lovers have already been recruited for Adam here.

  • praepos

I think that Kris isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t any less niche than Adam at this point with his music.

My guess: the very theatricality that makes Adam an AI8 standout limits his marketability selling records. He’ll do well on tours, given the excitement he can generate visually. His song choices will be wilder and more original as well. But Kris will have a broader, more romantic appeal and will sell better in the long run.

  • virgo03v

Wrong again. Kelly is the top selling idol of all time. Carrie has just won more awards. There’s a difference.

when I say Kris is the same as Carrie, I meant personality and stage presence. LOL Well, Plus the whole southern american ideal of what an american idol is.

Ruben and Fantasia are very mainstream. Its called R&B.

I can’t stand country music, and i’m not a carrie fan at all, but even I can admit she can sing. Kris’s strength is not in his singing, its more in his guitar playing/arrangements. Kris is no Carrie in regards to singing….. LOL I was just making the comparison that like Carrie he’s the safe choice.

  • spring2009

The itunes sales threads on here drive me nuts.

Sure Kris has more singles in the top this week – too bad we can’t see sales from the weeks Idol was airing – I am willing to bet anything that Adam had lots more on there those weeks. We have been buying his stuff all along – I do not believe that was the case with Kris.

  • http://thescraploft.blogspot.com/ kizgold

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Kris is kind of artist that is being played on the radio.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m just not understanding this statement at all. On what type of radio à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ AC? All I know is that I only listen to top 40 radio, KISS.fm to be exact. And I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t recall any music like Krisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s. More like Lady Gaga and Britney.

KIIS fm plays way more hip-hop and dance-pop than most Top 40 stations. The majority play Jason Mraz, John Mayer, The Fray, One Republic, etc. along with the Lil Wayne and GaGa.

    ————————–
Exactly. the farther out of the pacific timezone you get there is a lot less hip hop and dance. There is some and of course the NY market is different from the rest of the east but I hear Mraz far more frequently for example than I ever hear Lady GaGa. I am in WV fyi.

  • lavender1960

I listen to CHUM FM in Toronto which is part of a larger network of Canadian radio stations. I can tell you that James Morrison, Jason Mraz, Matt Nathanson and the Fray are all over that playlist along with Flo Rida and TI and Nickelback and Lady GaGa. John Mayer as well though not right now. Lordy I would hear Wonderland every time I turned on the radio.

In fact James Morrison just made it to No. 1 this week on their Top 30 Chart, pushing out BEP. Of course dueting with Nelly Furtado helps his spins. And I see Kris being in that first group of artists.

A Canadian Idol runnerup, she was made it to Top 4? Carly Rae Jepsen is also doing very well and she is more in the lines of Nora Jones and ilk. She’s beating the poor guy who won hands down so far. She’s on hit #2. He’s still trying for hit #1.

  • mellodrone

praepos, it’s possible that Kris will sell more CD’s, but artists don’t make money off CD sales anymore. The money’s in touring and merch sales. I see Adam as having more longevity because of his visual appeal.

If you are willing to pay, I think you can get better information from Billboard or Nielsen Sounscan. There are different subscription levels and the more you pay the more information you can get your hands on. Usually only worth it to industry types who can write part of that expense off.

  • Truthiness

With AI demagraphics being what they are, I think they both had to have a lot of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“crazy older fansà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ to get as far as they did.

True, but ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s hurt a lot of contestants after the show. If Adam has older fans showing up at his concerts, he will have zero credibility with the younger crowd.

You mean so only t(w)eens did end up voting for Kris and were indeed the reason he won? Okay than. Because otherwise Kris won with people other than cool t(w)eenagers who are going to show up at the concerts for the much much cooler Kris. Will that make them start hating Kris because teh oldz start showing up as well? Will there be small sections where teh oldz of Kris’s fans are allowed to listen to him, maybe behind a curtain, so all the cool young kids who made Kris the winner, don’t have to see them?

I give Kris his due, I don’t think he won only by t(w)eens, I think he has just as many older fans as Adam does and for both contestants, both will show up at their concerts. And getting back to the topic here, I’m sure all ages of fans will enjoy the interviews and performances of their faves, whomever that may be. I do look forward to seeing Kris perform on these things, well other than Ellen, because I’ve already seen that one. And I hope my 20-something self is cool enough to enjoy Kris doing so. And I’m uncool and old enough to be looking forward to Adam’s live performances this week, even more.

Again, back on topic, so Kris will be forced to the craptastic coronation song, will he be allowed to change it up on the other shows like he did on Ellen’s? Or will TPTB want him do to a version that more closely resembles the version on the radio and the one that people will buy? See now THAT is a question I look forward to having answered in the week to come. And unlike long-term success of either men, will be answered in a mere few days, not months to come.

I’m a huge Adam fan and bought his NB from UK iTunes even though I thought the song was awful live .. and more bearable on the studio version.

I’ve listened to it quite a lot and it’s really grown on me (as long as I don’t take the lyrics too seriously) . .. and I’m finding that I can’t stop humming it.

You know, not meaning to get into a disagreement here, but the record industry is a total decline. This is from Rolling Stone.

More than 5,000 record-company employees have been laid off since 2000. The number of major labels dropped from five to four when Sony Music Entertainment and BMG Entertainment merged in 2004 — and two of the remaining companies, EMI and Warner, have flirted with their own merger for years

About 2,700 record stores have closed across the country since 2003, according to the research group Almighty Institute of Music Retail. Last year the eighty-nine-store Tower Records chain, which represented 2.5 percent of overall retail sales, went out of business, and Musicland, which operated more than 800 stores under the Sam Goody brand, among others, filed for bankruptcy

    http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/15137581/the_record_industrys_decline/2

Now I agree people buy music at Walmart and Amazon, but the issue is the record industry has changed and it’s in decline. Music is now all about digital.

    I’m over 30 and I’ve had a iPod since 2002 btw.

Don’t mean to rock the boat, but what you said is just not true. Plus, the under 30 generation spends a lot more on music. Digital downloads are a major force in the industry.

  • KrisAllen1

Spring Kris did have sales when AI was on.Did you not see the leaked sales months ago? Kris wasnt to far from adam was he?

I kinda feel bad for Adam.He has ALOT to live up to.People will expect something like rock and he deliver dance/pop.Adam said that he wants
to put out differant music? That doesnt sell. Most Artist stick to one genre
You dont see KAty Perry,Lady Gaga or Brittany spears doing something
    other than there music.

Kris has one genre its pop/rock.I think it would cross over to country.People arent expecting Kris to do that well.So even if he puts out a good decent album
people will be surprised and like it.

In regarding 19E.They have Adam and thats all the fuck they care about.I’m not expecting Kris to get promoted much and i think they could care less if it would be a good or brillant album. All they wanted this season was Adam so
thats there main concern.Allison,Kris and even Danny will be pushed into
trash even with great Kris and Allison music.

Contrary to that belief, I’d just like to share with everyone that XM Radio HITS/ Serius 20-on-20, which polls listeners and plays there top 20 requested songs, has been playing Adam’s version of No Boundaries as #1 all weekend. It is so fabulous to be driving around, hear him on the radio and look down on the dash to see his name there! Rock on, Adam!

  • lavender1960

Yes the money is in touring but the more albums you sell the more people are likely to buy concert tickets and not everyone wants or needs spectacle. If the music moves people, they will come. What makes a live show dynamic isn’t necessarily spectacle but passion I would say. Or Vegas would be bigger.

And making sure you got great musicians backing you up- see David Cook about doing that right, Mr. Allen.

  • KrisAllen1

Yeah, me too. I’m a big fan of AFI, Green Day, Tiger Army, MCR, and other punk/alternative rock bands, and NO ONE CARES how old any one is. Like Morrissey said: Age is like your shoe size, it’s irrelevant. Your either fabulous or boring regardless of your age.

I hope Adam leans the alt rock way addiing his special style…like MCR kinda seems like alt rock with a touch of glam to me, and they are VERY relevant.
I’m here in Florida and I could care less about hip/hop and rap. All my friends pretty much the same with the exception of a few. Hopefully Adam will stay true to himself and fans will follow regardless of their age. If anyone really cares how old the person standing next to them is, that’s just lame imo.

True, but ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s hurt a lot of contestants after the show. If Adam has older fans showing up at his concerts, he will have zero credibility with the younger crowd.

Where on earth did this come from???? So this is the new line of attack? Adam has no credibility in the music biz because there are people over the age of 30 who likes him?? Well, I’m 28, so I guess I only have 2 more years to like his music. LOL

When i go to a concert i want to hear music. When artist put on crazy costumes and do crazy stuff that takes away from what fans are there for.Its the music that matters not the crazy stunts.I think Katy Perry and Lady Gaga are fine people who make well with there music but i cant take them seriously.

I been a David Cook concert and it was beautiful. One of the best concerts ever.It was perfect.I also been to a Jason Mzar concert and it was fun.

Yeah, me too. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m a big fan of AFI, Green Day, Tiger Army, MCR, and other punk/alternative rock bands, and NO ONE CARES how old any one is. Like Morrissey said: Age is like your shoe size, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s irrelevant. Your either fabulous or boring regardless of your age.

Anyone who quotes the Mozz Father is ok by me =)

TKat – If Ellen à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“hadà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ to have Kris on first, she would not have been able to have Adam on, even by phone, first. Also, Ellen was a Kris supporter. Just an FYI.

I just rewatched the ep., and Ellen specifically said she couldn’t have Adam on the show, so she talked to him on the phone. I’m sure he can go on Ellen when his album comes out. And, Ellen is a fan of Kris, but she said several, several times (from Rof onward) that she thought Adam should win. She’s quite smitten with him and talked about him A LOT on her show.

Re: Adam on Leno. His dad didn’t say that. One of the DJs did. But the DJ said it along with other shows that Adam is actually on, so I’m not sure if the Leno comment just went by unnoticed for Adam to correct. (and he said Leno, not The Tonight Show).

  • lavender1960

lavender1960, I wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t compare Kris to Ruben unless you want Kris to also lose his recording contractà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦. Grant it, Ruben got another one, but it hasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t been good year for the Velvet Teddy Bear regarding cd salesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.

I am not comparing musical styles but personality types, addressing the contention that Kris isn’t aggressive or personable enough to sell enough records. Ruben may not sold as many units as Clay but they were more than great numbers by overall industry standards even back then. Platinum and gold are always welcome. Not everyone hits a home run every time up to bat either. Idols just get judged by harsher standards methinks.

The reality is a lot of established artists out there have sold less then Ruben certainly did in with first few albums and maybe even the third, and still have recording contracts, so far. It’s a tough year all around given even U2 failed to meet expectations and they were pimping that album so hard, you’d think they needed the money! And yeah U2 will make a gagillion dollars on their tour. I think I need to mortgage something to get a ticket so I may just pass.

  • mellodrone

Yes the money is in touring but the more albums you sell the more people are likely to buy concert tickets and not everyone wants or needs spectacle. If the music moves people, they will come. What makes a live show dynamic isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t necessarily spectacle but passion I would say. Or Vegas would be bigger.

I think the real test will be in what kind of live show Kris does. And will people want to see him more than once. That’s where I’m very iffy about Kris’ longevity. I think he will make a lovely, pleasant-sounding CD. Will he be able to develop enough stage charisma to bring people back to see him again and again? I guess we wait and see. Adam will draw huge numbers when he performs live. $$$ His label will be less inclined to dump a “cash cow” (for lack of a better term!) It will be very interesting indeed to see what happens with both winners post-Idol. They’re in the real world, now!

  • KrisAllen1

Adam does have a good voice.I wont argue or deny that. His high notes and vocals were amazing.I was more amazed with the lighting/costumes then his performances though. With Kris and even Allison they didnt need need special effects they just had music and it moved people.

I dont think Adam would of gotten so much media if he didnt have special effects with his performances.

I was referring to Carrie Underwood being tops in money for last year. She made a measly $14 million.

Yes, I’m aware that Ruben, and Fantasia are R&B, but, I was also referring to them not being pop/rock. Guess I should explain myself a little better.

Ok, I’m tired of haggling over who is going to do better and on what stations. I guess I’ll wait until their albums come out and see what happens. Things are so much easier that way.

They’ll both be promoted however 19E promotes them and how payola greases the radio station wheels. Oops did I really say that?

You mean so only t(w)eens did end up voting for Kris and were indeed the reason he won? Okay than. Because otherwise Kris won with people other than cool t(w)eenagers who are going to show up at the concerts for the much much cooler Kris. Will that make them start hating Kris because teh oldz start showing up as well? Will there be small sections where teh oldz of Krisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s fans are allowed to listen to him, maybe behind a curtain, so all the cool young kids who made Kris the winner, donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have to see them?

I’m not saying Kris won because the tweens power-texted. I’m saying that if an artist wants to be current and sell a lot of records, they generally need to appeal to the teen and college crowd. Established artists are an exception because they have been around for a long time and their fans have grown with them.

“True, but ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s hurt a lot of contestants after the show. If Adam has older fans showing up at his concerts, he will have zero credibility with the younger crowd.”

I said zero credibility with the younger crowd, meaning a few tweens, and mostly teens and college kids. That needs to be his target demographic if he’s going to be taken seriously because of the type of artist he is.

Odd. I see teens at concerts I go to. And I am 40. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t seem to keep them away from my Green Day, Cobra Starship, Fall Out Boy etc etc etc.

And I have a 15 year old. Her friends have no issue if us dinosaurs listen to the same music

Also, no one in FOB or Cobra Starship was on American Idol. Idol contestants have a much harder time because they are labled with the “40-year-old Claymate” fans by the general public, whether it’s true of that particular contestant or not.

ETA: If anyone has any doubts about the bad rep Adam is getting because of some of his crazier fans already, just go read the latest post on Idletard. Now I agree people buy music at Walmart and Amazon, but the issue is the record industry has changed and ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s in decline. Music is now all about digital.

I think vinyl collecting was more fun–the art alone was more engaging. The transfer to cds was the actual beginning of the decline.

I agree .. many people, as well as wanting to hear the music, enjoy watching the artist perform and like to see them put on a good show .. a big part of a person’s enjoyment of a concert can be the visual as well as what they hear.

It’s all down to individual taste .. personally I enjoy both .. I like to see singers perform in intimate club venues just sitting there singing .. but I also love a good show with fireworks, costumes and dancing girls and boys.

… and after seeing the video’s of Adam at the Upright Cabaret I tend to think that he can do both … which not a lot of performers area able to do.

  • KrisAllen1

Will tonight’s LKL show be streaming somewhere?

  • lavender1960

Let’s take the example of Elton John.

When Elton John started out and first became famous he didn’t have all the costumes and theatrics. He had himself and his piano and the incredible songs written by him and Bernie Taupin.

And Elton gave up the theatrics long ago. I didn’t get a chance to see that version of Elton John and perhaps I did miss out.

I have seen Elton with his piano and his band, without the costumes and theatrics, just straight ahead playing and Elton with just himself and his piano. Both performances were brilliant and sold out but I think I liked the second one best.

Some of us can enjoy both – some guy and a guitar in a little pub can keep you mesmerized for hours or you go see someone like Madonna who gives you the total experience. You can enjoy Bruce Springsteen and the band, wearing simple T shirts and jeans, singing and playing their hearts out for 3 hours or you see go see KISS and get the full shebang.

Frankly I think when you don’t have substance – see KISS, Britney, you might be inclined to hide under spectacle and theatrics. Certainly what David Bowie said about his Ziggy Stardust days. He didn’t think people would like just him so he needed alter egos. And he was probably right initially. It works for KISS and it worked for Bowie. He still seems to reinvent himself each new album but not in quite as dramatic a fashion.

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

Starlightt people like differant performances and artist. There are people who dont like crazy effects and costumes just like me.

That was my point. Different people like different things. You were the one with the blanket statement that it takes away what the *fans* are there for, rather than what you are there for.

For the record I like both spectacle and watching a singer songwriter with a guitar equally. John Mayer and Ryan Adams come to mind in those catagories.

  • saga

Krisallen1, I totally disagree. I still get chills when I hear or see Born to be Wild or Whole Lotta Love again, that some mad skills there and lots of passion! It’s vocally so damn impressive! So what if he doesn’t wear a t-shirt?

  • weareallinnocent

All of this talk of how the age of fans damages artists misses the mark. Assuming fans harming cred is even remotely true, here’s my view. It’s not their age, it’s the behavior of a few. And, yes, it’s AI fanaticism in all it’s odd manifestations that does it — flat Clay, harrassing DJs, spamming websites and web polls, for example. That’s the stigma. Not the age of music lovers.

  • Victoria

Actually yes the mixes I have seen have run the gamit on ages. But I bow to your 15 years of wisdom ;)

I understand it’s a mix. What I meant was, that mix isn’t mostly 40-plus. As in, there are more cocert-goers over 40 than all the other ages combined. That’s what I meant by “majority”. I’m talking Claymate-esque here. Also, like I said, Adam was an Idol contestant. That is much different that FOB and the like because Idols have to break away from all the Idol stereotypes – one being rabid older fans. (I’m not saying you’re rabid or old. Like I said, it’s a stereotype) Also, I may be 15 but that means I hang out with teenagers and I know what the average teenager likes, because I am one.

  • Sydia

Every single idol has had a BIG voice, not Kris. He has a beautiful tone to is voice which is what matters. Big ‘ole voices mean crap nowadays. So, so far that makes him an atypical AI idol in my opinion.

  • KrisAllen1

I think Kris need to prove that he has the personality and the strength to be a performer with his interviews. We know that Kris has a beautiful voice and that it moves people and that he will make albums. What he needs to do know is show that he wanted to win and to be someone in the music industry. He needs to stop with the “Adam derserved this” shit. Its why people call him a “upset winner”.If he shows that in interviews he will be fine.

Kris also needs to make what interviews he’s getting because its not much and because the TPTB dont want him doing interviews.I doubt they even wanted him to go far.If he didnt win then they would drop him.He needs to
show that he wants this as much as Adam and even Danny does.

  • GeminiDolly

I love it all, intimate setting guitar strumming venues ( I love me some Jason Castro) or full out costumes, hip thrusting, eyeliner wearing theatrics (yes, you Adam).

  • RemusL

So, it would seem that all Idols are doomed to failure since they are not BEP, Flo Rida or KanYe (and I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think of any I would even suggest should try that genre), but I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t buy that.

I think the musical world is larger than that. Theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll likely never have the successes of BEP, Flo Rida or KanYe, but some of them will be able to make a go of it.

Kirsten, I didn’t mean to imply that none of the Idols can succeed if they don’t embrace hip hop and modern R&B. I merely mention those acts as representative of the most current tastes in music for teens and twentysomethings, hence their domination of Top 40 radio. We still see the big pop acts like Madonna, Britney, Coldplay, etc. but those are huge established acts with big budget support from their record labels.

You can be a mediocre hip hop or R&B act and have an easier time getting radio play than if you’re a new pop/rock act. The Davids got the Idol fan bump for their first year but the second and third years will be more difficult.

Can an artist have a good career without much radio play? Sure, especially in the age of the internet with YouTube/MySpace/Facebook etc., but it’s more of a challenge and will require the help of an active dedicated fanbase.

  • skylight1219

Oh my gosh. The artists make money on concerts and merchandise. Downloads are in right now. However, I actually love to pop a CD in and listen to it. Most of the money from albums goes to the record company anyway.

I’ll give Adam his kudos for stage presence. He may or may not do well in CD sales. I don’t have a crystal ball. Taylor Hicks is fantastic in concert, and just because his CD’s don’t sell as much as Daughtry, people think he isn’t successful. Success isn’t measured only in numbers. Success can and should mean that the person is happy doing what they love to do.

  • Violator

Also, I may be 15 but that means I hang out with teenagers and I know what the average teenager likes, because I am one.

I know quite a few teenagers myself and I guarantee not a single one would think Kris Allen is cool. I’m not trying to knock him, it’s just a fact. Of course, these kids wouldn’t be caught dead listening to anything much that’s played on the radio.

  • isisdagmar

KrisAllen1: It’s not that Kris and Allison didn’t need “special effects”–they simply didn’t want them because that’s not the kind of artist they are. Adam doesn’t need special effects to astonish and move people with his voice, as his lower key performances (including videos from the Upright Cabaret, where it’s just him and a piano) and the fact that he was the number 1 seller on itunes in terms of studio versions throughout the season can attest to. But he enjoys them–just as artists like Bowie, Michael Jackson, Freddy Mercury, etc. enjoyed and used the more theatrical elements of performance to great effect. If Adam’s music didn’t move people–if it were just about a good voice and special effects–he would have been an entertaining, popular showman, not the phenomenon he appears to be right now (which will hopefully continue, although who knows what the future will bring). But if you don’t feel that connection, that’s fine–not everyone will feel it with Adam, just as not everyone feels it with Kris.

Adam’s artistry lies in how he uses his voice and how he performs the song. Kris’ artistry lies in how he uses his voice and his musicianship. They bring out the emotions and meaning of their songs in different ways, using different tools. I happen to find Adam’s voice and performances more generally involving and captivating, but that doesn’t mean I think Kris is an inferior artist–I’ve downloaded several of his performances and if his CD is as good as his music on the show, I will buy it. But for whatever reason, I connect emotionally to Adam, to his voice, and his performance style in a way that I have rarely experienced with any artist.

  • praepos

There are no rules for a successful tour except one–don’t put your audience to sleep. If it takes dry ice and false eyelashes, so be it.

  • erinnthered

Only slightly off-topic: isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t it funny that both the last two Idols went to audition to accompany their brothers? weird

Same with Cook. I’m not sure if this is an actual audition trend, or the hot new excuse so you don’t lose as much credibility. lol

Thanks so much for keepin’ it real, Kirsten! Watch out for the po-po though. Don’t let ‘em hassle ya. ;-)

Chachi and fortunefox make good points I’d like to add to. Age is irrelevant when it comes to music tastes. It’s got more to do with the attitude of the fans. Let’s face it, AI tends to bring in a lot of…let’s say “non-music” fans. People who think the AI tour is a real concert, and haven’t listened to anything outside what might have made the top 40 at one time or another. (Whether that’s Queen or Moby or Mraz it was all top 40 at some point.) The grown adults who show up in “contestant colors” and picture shirts and bunny ears and hold up signs comparing their fave Idol’s butt to a root vegetable? It’s the presence of those people that make “cool” people not want to associate with an Idol contestant – regardless of age.

Honestly, and I am very much a Kradison fan – Adam is in more danger of getting those kinds of fans than Kris, but both should be worried…apparently Anoop too. The minute any celeb or music reviewer catches wind of a fan in fake wings or a photo t-shirt they will run screaming for the hills and ditch him faster than week old sushi.

ETA: MORRISSEY! Still amazing and hot at 50! Oh yeah!

    ETD: My own hypocrisy.

  • KrisAllen1

Taylor Hicks is like a handicap clown on stage .Lets not compare Adam’s presense to his lol. That’s a insult.I might not like crazy stunts but Adam
has 1110 more stage skills than Taylor Hicks ever will. The one reason
I love Adam is because of how far out he goes and what he does when
    he performs.

Is Taylor Hicks successful or even close? I think Katherine and Daughty both sold out more than he did.

  • JenG

Adam does have a good voice.I wont argue or deny that. His high notes and vocals were amazing.I was more amazed with the lighting/costumes then his performances though. With Kris and even Allison they didnt need need special effects they just had music and it moved people.

Adam didn’t need a crazy costume for Mad World. His most popular performance of the season. That performance was all about the vocal. And maybe the blue light helped with the atmosphere.

But the piano and red lights helped with Kris’ Ain’t No Sunshine.

And the stool and dark lighting helped with Danny’s You’re So Beautiful.

Adam doesn’t necessarily need the special effects. But it adds a little extra and it does make him exciting.

  • lavender1960

The industry is about digital indeed but I think the quality of downloads suck. Not good enough for me and I am not even an audiophile.

Denigrate those old folks all you want but I saw some stats from Billboard that indicated that the Baby Boomers have been outbuying the kiddies in the music department, across all genres, for a while now, in terms of legal downloads and sales of hard copies, as opposed to getting your buddy to burn it for you and “file sharing”. Many young ‘uns have a great tendency to get their music gratis

Now how do concert ticket sales breakdown demographically? I don’t know. I just know I couldn’t afford to go to many concerts until I finished school and was out in the work force. I didn’t have parents that would have forked out for Madonna tickets.

My nephews laugh at me for downloading on iTunes.

  • Qcloud9

And with that we’re right with what is it that people in their t(w)eens and college age kids are listening to. And I contend that both Kris and Adam have people on which to base their future success on the charts now, Jason Mraz vs. Lady Gaga/Katy Perry. And that neither fit into the vast majority of other music, which is more hip hop/Urban than either men are doing. And that both audiences for both men are older than t(w)weens or those college kids, because that’s who AI skews to as a whole. And I still don’t get how all teh oldz people who WILL show up at Kris’s concerts won’t destroy his cred, but that all teh oldz that show up at Adam’s concerts, will.

If anyone has any doubts about the bad rep Adam is getting because of some of his crazier fans already, just go read the latest post on Idletard. I saw it right after I wrote this (incredibly long – sorry!) comment.

So the intertubes couldn’t make Adam the winner, despite his being arguably more popular on it, but some posts on parts of the interwebs, will adversely affect his record sales and concert attendance.

Meanwhile, to once again try and get back on topic, I wonder when the next batch of appearances will be announced, how crazy will it be? Like Glenn Beck on Martha Stewart levels of crazy? Cause that would be cool at least to watch. In a trainwrecky kind of way.

  • KrisAllen1

I never said they would think he’s cool. That comment was relating to the older concert-goers thing. It had nothing to do with Kris.

And actually, most of the teenagers I know think Jason Mraz and John Mayer are cool, so Kris does have a chance. Hip-hop may have taken over the airways, but it’s not the only thing we listen to! Kris has potential to appeal to the teen/college Top 40 crowd. It will depend on the material he puts out and how he’s marketed.

That you are. And I happen to have a teenager. And teens, last I checked, come in all flavors just like adults. So while you may know teens that would find it not cool to listen to music old farts do, there are plenty of them out there that don’t give a shit.

Now the *Idol* taint is something totally different and honestly I think the only contestant out there who totally side stepped would be Carrie. Well any of the ones that went country.

Even their iTunes sales are not a sure fire way to gauge the success of their futures as they are still working off the momentum of the show. I already commented about this earlier, but even the Glee Cast has a song high on the charts. (I’m not trying to diminish the success of Kris/Adam’s song chartings, just trying to put it into prospective). Idol was a great launching pad for both of their careers, but now they have to face the real world. It may take years for either of them to attain the kind of success they want. And even if they are able to reach that point, who knows if they will be able to sustain it. We’ve seen a lot of Idols peak and then fall off.

I just hope that each of them are able to produce albums that are true to themselves as artists, rather than just another commercially packaged pop record we’ve already heard. Though I doubt either of them will really be allowed to push the envelope too far.

I’m looking forward to seeing what both will do in the upcoming year. I’m hoping for positive outcomes for each. Oh, and Allison too! Let’s not forget her. She may beat both these boys out for all we know! :)

MORRISSEY! Still amazing and hot at 50! Oh yeah!

Hot at 50? –er, no. Not too cool either.

I’ve been reading this entire discussion and I must say, despite it being incredibly off topic, it has really been interesting. Tons of good points everyone.

I commend all the posters for staying generally level-headed and logical. Best of luck to Kris/Adam and all the other Idol hopefuls in their ventures into the music industry. I can’t wait for Kris’ Ellen segment because she seems to be the most enthusiastic about AI and might actually ask relevant questions. The Idolatry interviews should all be pure gold too.

I realize everyoneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s different. That wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t the point. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m talking about Top 40-listening average teenagers as a general whole. There are expections, I know.

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re going to agree on this, so what do you say we just move on and agree to disagree? No hard feelings

Of course! And thank God for the exceptions to the rule. I think there are a lot more of them out there than one might expect. Teens tend to get the short end of the stick when it comes to generalizations.

ETA “MORRISSEY! Still amazing and hot at 50! Oh yeah!

Hot at 50? à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’er, no. Not too cool either”

Add my mileage to the Hot and Cool catagory. I adore Morrisey =)

Taylor Hicks a *handicapped clown*???? Well, I have gone to several of his sold out concerts and he is sooo much fun and I love his music! And even though I have not peaked into his bank account, I have a hunch he is doing just fine.
There is no way to compare Adam to Kris or Taylor….they are so different. And as Adam says, different is cool with him. Sheesh!

Victoria, your posts today are quite articulate and well reasoned, for any age – much less 15. I may not agree with everything you say but I am impressed with the way you say your piece.
    :thumbup_tb:

So peeps, the thread topic is media appearances by the top 3, right? So in that vein… I live 30 miles outside NYC and I’m going to make sure I get to at least one Lambert appearance. I really want to hear him sing live. As I am in the undesirable market segment :tongue2_tb: I will do my best to remain inconspicuous! LOL

I want to add to all the comments to what kind of music Adam will have on his CD. It has been reported will.i.am wants to work with him also. Now I am not a BEP fan (but they do sell a helluva lot of music) but that sounds interesting to me. Add Santana into the mix, etc., and it keeps gets interesting. I’ve heard a lot of producers and writers are interested in working with both Adam and Allison.

“Everyone says Kris had the tween votes.I dont think so.Maybe he had some but most teens dont like his type of music. I have two 16yr old nieces who loved Adam.I seen more tweens who love adam because if you search Kris lost on youtube thousands of little tweens and teenagers express there hate. There all funny.”

My high school freshman daughter buys those “Tiger Beat” – type mags, and ADAM is in them and has been for the last 2 or 3 months. Haven’t seen Kris at all – although I expect the issues that come out post-victory will mention him.

Those mags are full of fashion and articles about how akward it is to be a teen. Who better than ADAM to address both? Kris? Not so much.

Adam will have a “be everywhere” career – I can see him guest- judging Project Runway and sitting in on Red Eye (my daughter’s favorite shows). Kris? Not so much.

BTW, my generation did iNVENT and EMBRACE the internet and digital music. I’m 50. WE are the bleeding edge.

No offense to Jordin, but it was Chris Brown that got this song to the list… not Jordin….

Letà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s face it, AI tends to bring in a lot ofà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦letà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s say à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“non-musicà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ fans. People who think the AI tour is a real concert, and havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t listened to anything outside what might have made the top 40 at one time or another. (Whether thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Queen or Moby or Mraz it was all top 40 at some point.) The grown adults who show up in à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“contestant colorsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and picture shirts and bunny ears and hold up signs comparing their fave Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s butt to a root vegetable? Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the presence of those people that make à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“coolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ people not want to associate with an Idol contestant – regardless of age.

    So true.

Honestly, and I am very much a Kradison fan – Adam is in more danger of getting those kinds of fans than Kris, but both should be worriedà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦apparently Anoop too. The minute any celeb or music reviewer catches wind of a fan in fake wings or a photo t-shirt they will run screaming for the hills and ditch him faster than week old sushi.

I think every male AI contestant is equally in danger of establishing a fanbase filled with hard core crazies. From what I can tell, there’s only one way to avoid it – do so well commercially, that the press never notices them. I went to an early Daughtry concert when he was doing the small venues right after the CD release, and trust me, there were more than a few of the typical AI fantards there.

I’m sure they still show up at his shows and at his appearances. The difference is, he got a ton of radio play and sold a ton of CD’s, so the crazy fantards never became the story. Also, a lot of these guys make the mistake of pandering to the crazies, like letting them work on their web sites or sanctioning the lunacy of a “street team”.

Also, they’re relentless. No matter how many times they get skewered on the radio by a DJ or made fun of in an online article, they still continue to spam request lines and verbally attack reporters in their comments.

Adam & Kris (and all of the Season 8 guys for that matter) will both have to deal with this. The question will still remain if their cd’s can appeal to the general public. If they do, they crazies aren’t really a problem. If they don’t, the crazies will be all they have left.

Moral to the story: If you and a bunch of grown ass adults are planning to dress alike for a concert in any way shape or form, you may want to step back and take a moment. Also, if you go to a lot of concerts, you’ll notice that fans rarely ever bring signs. I don’t know what it is about AI contestants that makes people lose their minds and arm themselves with poster board and sharpies, but honestly, leave that stuff at home.

  • Victoria

When Elton John started out and first became famous he didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have all the costumes and theatrics. He had himself and his piano and the incredible songs written by him and Bernie Taupin.

Actually, Elton John got his start with a kick-ass rock and roll band, featuring Nigel Olsen on drums and Elton’s Jerry Lee Lewis inspired boogie woogie piano playing. Check out his somewhat obscure first live album 11-17-70 sometime. It was a hard rocking live show and one of the great live albums of all time, joining so many others from that time frame including Get Yer Ya Yas Out, Live at Leeds, and The Allman’s Live at the Fillmore.

He didn’t go “LIberace” until later.

So, I also forgot to say, during my long dissertation there…. As fond as I am of both Adam & Kris, I will not be buying the crappy NB song from either of them (although I did buy some other stuff). And, I don’t actually like anyone enough to watch most of the vapid crap on morning/daytime tv. So, thank jeebus for MJ and her video snippets.

When i go to a concert i want to hear music. When artist put on crazy costumes and do crazy stuff that takes away from what fans are there for.

No offence, hun, but speak for yourself. Myself and the LEGIONS who went to see everyone from early Genesis to Elton John, to Queen, to countless other bands think different. The above taste is yours but donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t for one minute think that is is representative of what every fan is there for.

I think the true test of an artist for me is if I think they would have been just as amazing without the superficial extras such as fog and lighting effects. If I remember the show more that I remember the performer, I don’t go back to see that performer. Yes, this is my personal bias.

I am mostly a blues fan, so by default, it is rare to get anything more than a simple show. However, my favorite of all time, B.B. King can sit in a chair on stage with his band that he has been playing with for over 20 years now (with nothing else but them), and IMO blow away everyone else at a major music festival, including those that had lots of tricks. On the other hand, I have seen B.B. King as part of bigger music projects that had all of the extras imaginable, and King did not get swallowed up by the show either. It helps that King has decades of experience, but he has proved to me that talent is talent. If you have it, you have it, the extras should not matter either way to a performance.

I have also been to concerts like Aerosmith and while they had all the extras, I honestly think they were good enough to not need any extras. The fog and fireworks were just a bonus to a talented musical group.

An artist nowdays needs to be able to play a variety of venues and different types of crowds. I think Kris is best at being “simple” and has a way to bring people into his performances, regardless of the crowd size, so he does not need tricks. I am with Jamie Foxx, Kris has a swoon factor for me when Kris is in his zone.

Based on what some viewers reported about the Nokia, and I don’t think they were Kris biased, that Kris still filled the place up. Kris can make a large venue feel more intimate.

On the other hand, I think while Adam may like the tricks, I do think Adam has the talent to pull off the more intimate and bare settings as well. I don’t think that Adam gets enough credit for his talent that he has the talent to not need the extras, but he can make the extras work to his advantage.

I think of Kris as having the ability to bring people into his music world by creating an atmosphere that makes me forget about everything else, regardless of how many people are around him and me. While I think Adam has the ability to adapt his performances to match the venue type and crowd size.

While I think it comes down to personal taste between the two, I think both Kris and Adam are adaptable, much more so that people give them credit.

  • erinnthered

Amen to everything SpenserJ just said! I would add that sometimes the crazy fans can be louder enough to overcome and drown out any gains in commercial popularity an artist might gain. See: Aiken, Clay. Adam seems to have inherited more than a few Claymates, if the latest Idletard post is to be believed. That’s scariest of all.

Moral to the story: If you and a bunch of grown ass adults are planning to dress alike for a concert in any way shape or form, you may want to step back and take a moment. Also, if you go to a lot of concerts, youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll notice that fans rarely ever bring signs. Honestly, I recommend every music fan who watches AI go to an AI show at least once. Partly to understand the fanbase and the spectacle, and partly for the pure cheese of it all. It really is a Disney review. I do appreciate a good pointy pose. In season 6 Blake actually dressed as the poptart dude and roamed the audience before the shows. He totally got it. I think Cook and Michael Johns got it last year too. It’s the people who take it seriously that scare me.

    On topic?

I can’t wait for the Wal-Mart shareholders meeting show. With an Arkansasan (sp?) Idol it’s going to be INSANE!

    Two other pieces of advice:
    1) Throwing undergarments at performers was never cool. It’s not even ironically cool. Earnestly explaining to the media that you did it to be ironically cool will not help in the slightest.

    2) Even if you do cash out your 401K so that you can attend 23 concerts, do not line up to tell the press this. It will not be spun in a positive light.

Once upon a time there wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t such a thing as Ipods and Itunes and computer downloadsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦yup Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m thinking that maybe as little as 5 years has passed since this new technology came into vogue.

“In April 2003, version 4.0 introduced the iTunes Store;” Sorry, missed it by a year.

My point is that computer technology has taken on a life of its own. We now know that many households are equipped with computers and internet access. But I think many people forget how quickly this has become the norm. In 2003 I was still using dial-up and really haven’t had a computer that could everything I’ve wanted until the last 2 years.

So when I say that pulling all off the data off of I-tunes aand saying that it’s history for the last 6 years reflects the history of music in the last 6 years is very misleading. Just sayin’.

Hi folks — can’t seem to post this on the media thread, but (if you have a sense of humor about both of them) this is a very animated bit about Susan Boyle and Adam L “discovering” one another:

When I used to see Radiohead live, there was this “legendary” man called Warren who went to every single show around the world and ALWAYS arrived to line up first to ensure his spot right in front of Thom Yorke. He would do informal line organizing as well. It was definitely interesting and there were articles about him, but Radiohead had enough “cred” to have that ignored. It happens outside of AI, but most AI contestants have other hurdles to overcome anyway. I have never been to an AI-oriented show, but I assume what hurts as well is the percentage of these types in the audience.

You know I love all of the Adam fans I have “met” on this blog but I’ll be damned if I want to meet any of you at a concert. Somethings you would just like to keep secret, ya know like my 3rd eye and my extra boob. As far as you all know I am by far the most gorgeous older woman you have never laid eyes on.

Oh, and the other thing. Please, no youtube videos of the of the fan groups going out to dinner at the local cafeteria style restaurant with their idol pictures plastered on the back of their chairs.

Also, I have never understood how talking to your idol creates blubbering idiots of so many. Back in my youth I was a flight attendant (stewardess in those days) and I always chose to work 1st class. Well I met a lot of “stars” that way and found out pretty quickly that they were just the same as me except they got paid a lot more.

And what do people do with autographs?

Bootstar my guess is they dont want Kris to sing just interview. They might be afraid that if he sings NB his way people will want more interviews.

  • KrisAllen1

Tess i have Cookie and Archie’s autograph.I cant find it know because i lost it in my room.I dont get the fangirls.I bet Kris and Adam are laughing at all the signs and crazy girls who are crazy enough to act like they never seen a concert. When i went last year I took thousand of pictures but god the girls
were shoving each other to get closer to Cookie. Some archie fans threatened others to move it.

  • karenw

and oh yesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦I was *gonna* make some devil wings for my jacket too!

:lol_tb: you joke but I bet there are people across America right at this moment dismantling some wire coat hangers trying to construct their own versions for the tour …lol

  • lola

KrisAllen1 – I think you’re worrying too much about Kris. He will be just fine. I noticed that you always have this premonition that he will not sing in the TV show, he will not get the media attention, etc., etc. Stay cool. He will be ok.

When I used to see Radiohead live, there was this à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“legendaryà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ man called Warren who went to every single show around the world and ALWAYS arrived to line up first to ensure his spot right in front of Thom Yorke. He would do informal line organizing as well. It was definitely interesting and there were articles about him, but Radiohead had enough à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“credà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ to have that ignored. It happens outside of AI, but most AI contestants have other hurdles to overcome anyway. I have never been to an AI-oriented show, but I assume what hurts as well is the percentage of these types in the audience.

I’ve heard of Warren! Then again, it is Radiohead. Thom Yorke had “cred” coming out of the womb. (U2 couldn’t lick their boots, musically, IMHO.)

Yes, the per capita crazy at an AI contestant show is much higher than say, a Radiohead show. Well…the Radiohead crazy is the music snob “acceptable” crazy. AI crazy is just OTT.

Pix, we can still have lunch, as long as we can wear matching outfits and you supply the devil wings! A few well-placed flashing LEDs, and your posters will be just fineà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

I forgot about the LEDS! They hand those out at the AI shows. Poptarts: creating bad concert etiquette one AI Tour at a time.

One thing Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve learned these past 8 years is that whomever you donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t want to win is getting the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹tween voteà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢. We all could have gotten away with it if it wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t for those darn kids.

    LOL. Too true.

  • Trina

BootStar reports are he sang Bar-ba-sol and CBTM. Don’t know if just one or both will be shown! I’m sure CBTM will be shown before anything.

Autographs, well I’ve been collecting them for many years. I don’t go nuts trying to get them but if a celebrity is in front of me and the opportunity is easy enough I’ll ask for one. Some I end up trashing years later if so and so went on to obscurity and some I end up treasuring. I got Carrie’s back during the AI tour her season and I’m pretty darn glad I got that back then LOL I have DC’s but his in particular I love because it’s not just his name scribbled. When he asked what my name was I told him (my full name is Katrina fwiw) and he spelled it wrong so I didn’t even say anything but he looked at it and said “I bet I spelled that wrong”, I said yeah but thats fine, no biggie..and he crossed it out, spelled it the right way and wrote “P.S. sorry for making a mess out of this autograph” :laugh_tb:

  • wordnerdarchie

Bootstar, there have been tweets that Cook sang both CBTM and Bar Ba Sol at the taping this afternoon, but they didn’t specify if both would make it to air.

ETA: Trina, I was too late. Always the story of my life. lol

  • tideturning

The real reason Fox sunk Adam Lambert was because of his connection with the Israeli-PLO peace process, singing tribute to Prime Minister Rabin in 2005. Rabin, Arafet, and Perez won the Nobel Peace Prize, and assassinations were the result. Lambert follows the long tradition of liberalism in American Jews, and Fox went ballistic, seeking the aid of its sponsers to derail the frontrunner. AI cannot reveal the margin, and zabasearch will not declare a winner. We ARE talking about FOX, remember?

  • Lexus

Also, Ellen was a Kris supporter.

Really? I thought for sure she was an Adam supporter. A strong Adam supporter.

The same complaints were aired last year, with Cook fans complaining Archie was stealing the limelight.

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m sure it appeared that way. The thing is Archuleta had a pretty strong fan base, a fact that was not lost on the money pushers who took full advantage of exploiting both artists while the iron was hot. Plus, fans on both sides were really digging ArchuCook. They were (and remain) pretty classy together. Cook was more than gracious and agreeable to sharing his spotlight and Archie was as gracious in keeping his distance and letting Cook shine solely when need be.

I bought Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s version of No Boundries…twice. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m going to support him even if I have to go against my better instincts at times.

  • Calliope

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve heard of Warren! Then again, it is Radiohead. Thom Yorke had à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“credà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ coming out of the womb. (U2 couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t lick their boots, musically, IMHO.)

Really? Warren is that infamous? I met him a couple times during the Hail to the Thief tour. So weird and intense, albeit nice if you didn’t try to get his spot. I mean, Radiohead fans are pretty freakin’ intense (I knew a girl who saw them over thirty times on one European tour), yet he weirded most of them out. But it’s Radiohead, so it’s all good. (I agree with you about U2).

There was no uniform for those shows though. Well, unless you call looking like a dirty, bored hipster. I think wings and glitter sound prettier.

  • KrisAllen1

Sorry lola-Its just nerves.I saw how Kris was treated by the TPTB and i have no doubt that the music industry is worst.I know Kris will do fine I just worry alot because i dont think he would have alot of say for his album.

This media just makes me sick sometimes.I will never understand how people like Katy Perry,Lady Gaga and Brittany spears get anywhere. They
dont know music. Its all trash.Thank God that Adam Lambert will teach them how pop/dance music is done hopefully. He’s the only dance music i want to hear if its done right.

  • jumpstart

Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s one of my personal favorites! The thing about this that kills me, is that even after their 14th show, theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re still snapping pictures like mad. How many pictures do you actually need of a single human being? I think those women who went to nearly all of Cookà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s shows have more pictures of him than they do of their own families.

Ah, the downside of fame. Every fan base has its own fair share of “hopelessly devoted” peeps. It’s not limited to Cook.

And when Kris goes on the show later this week, will he be performing or just being interviewed?

I’m looking at the guest calendar page now and from the looks of it, it looks to be only an interview for Kris but I could be wrong.

    I called it!

  • erinnthered

Really? Warren is that infamous? I met him a couple times during the Hail to the Thief tour.

I’ve seen Radiohead a couple of times myself, and I do have friends who can be a bit hard core. They’ve told me about him, but it’s been a while. I couldn’t have told you his name until you mentioned it. Definitely gotta be him though.

There was no uniform for those shows though. Well, unless you call looking like a dirty, bored hipster. I think wings and glitter sound prettier.

You wouldn’t think the glitter and wings were so pretty if you saw who will be wearing it. It’s not about weight or age. It’s about personality. These are people who would have thought glam/electro/goth/emo was scary and bad a few months ago. Definitely not a part of their personal style. Just a desperate attempt to get Adam to notice them. It looks so awkward and out of place when people do that, and they’re not comfortable to be around.

I am five million years behind the times but had to say

Meanwhile, the police are starting to catch on to me, so this may be my last post for a while. The local authorities just donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t seem to appreciate how important this show is and how critical it is that we immediately find out which Idol will sell the most.

Kirsten, you win at the internets.

I have given up on seeing them live as getting tickets is so hard. I was a fan leach, going on the boards and snatching up spare tickets (hee). Still, yeah, definitely hardcore fans, but like others said, the way to get over that is by attracting non-AI fans (to bring this back to AI, I think Adam actually has that potential, if handled correctly).

Wow, this thread is not making an AI show sound enticing at all. LOL

  • Trina

KrisAllen1 what is the problem with just being interviewed? I’m really not grasping this. Leno was just an interview too and it’s been like that for the last few winners that appear the week they won. Some appearances will just be interviews, some will just be performances. Not every single winner sang on every single show over the years. Please try and just enjoy the appearances he will have.

  • Victoria

Wow, this thread is not making an AI show sound enticing at all. LOL

Ha, very true. I went for the first time last year, and I didn’t see any of the crazies, but I think it was because I had terrible seats and they were probably close to the front. I heard stories, though. I have floor seats this year… sounds scary. :blink_tb:

Hee Ryan had to practically drag it out of him! I think Adam was afraid he might jinx it. He REALLY seems to want to do this. I think it would be some fabulous pre-promo for his album. Is there a tour schedule for Queen? I looked and couldn’t find one.

Just got done watching Larry King. Could Scott be any more annoying?

  • Qcloud9

Just got done watching LKL. Burst out laughing when Scott said he once fell asleep while playing classical piano, woke up & wondered where he was & what he just got done playing!

  • Lexus

Just got done watching Larry King. Could Scott be any more annoying?

You took the words right out of my mouth. You would think the hour was all about him. He completely turned me off tonight. Grrr… It amazed me how subdued (albeit exhausted) Kris and Adam were….the two who had every right to speak.

  • KrisAllen1

Adam shouldnt tour with Queen.Adam confuses me on so many levels. If he wants to do Dance/Pop then Queen cant help him lol.He goes on tour with a rock band then puts out something like Pop/Dance? Queen is far from what Adam wants to do if its pop/dance.Queen is more rock and roll.I honeslty dont know what kind of artist Adam wants to be.

I hated Scott.I think Kris was about the talk about what he wants to do on a album but then Scott stopped him.Does anyone care about Scott? He’s a load of nothing.I feel bad that he’s blind but please. He goes on and on.He doesnt even have a record deal.I couldnt even hear Matt because of Scott.

Something was off about Matt. And Kris.Just the way the both of them looked.
I dont mean at each other its like they wanted to sleep right then and there.

  • jersey

LOL, that reminds me, Matt was actually yawning while on the show. The camera cut away quickly but he was definitely stifling a yawn.

  • KrisAllen1

    sorry double post.

  • KrisAllen1

It was kinda boring. It looked like Adam and Kris kept on nudging each other.Like come on a few more minutes lol.I loved that at one point Adam
and Kris looked at Scott at one point like were the ones with albums lol.

  • BootStar

Just got done watching Larry King. Could Scott be any more annoying?

    In a word: NO.

Seriously, I told the DH that I’ve officially declared Scott THE most annoying contestant of Season 8.

Danny, smart guy that he apparently is after all, was wise to shut up for the most part and let Scott take the crown. And I loved how it was unanimous that Anoop was the smartest of the bunch and not the Only Fulbright Scholar Ever To Appear On American Idol, Scott McIntyre!

  • clearone

He wouldn’t be touring with them. It would be guest appearances.

Yeah, I thought WTH when Scott started rambling on about an album. Adam and Kris looked tired and bored through a lot of tonight. I loved the question to Adam about being fabulous…..’I was born this way…’ He is so unassuming. He followed it right up by saying how unfabulous he was when he was younger.

  • karenw

Perhaps now we know why Billy Joel cancelled .. he wouldn’t be able to get a note in in a duet with Scott.

  • Qcloud9

I think both hours of LKL were taped on the same day, probably last Thursday or maybe Friday, so considering all the other post-finale interviews, etc they were probably very tired and sleepy.

Was I the only one that noticed Adam not paying any attention to Sarver? I sensed some tension there based on the rumors. Perhaps I’m just being overly sensitive to it.

If he wants to do Dance/Pop then Queen cant help him

Actually, on LKL, Adam said he is going to do a Rock album with Techno.

  • KrisAllen1

I hope Adam makes a few guest apperances with Katy Perry.Even more or so Madonna if she’s going on tour.If Adam even goes on tour with Queen for a few apperances when he wants to make a Pop/Dance record wouldnt look right

It would be like Kris Allen making guest apperances with Jamiee Fox or Kayne West on tour then putting out a Pop/Soft rock record. It wouldnt make sense.

I didnt know that they said So What was going to the group song on tour.I
    was half alsleep.

  • virgo03v

Hee Ryan had to practically drag it out of him! I think Adam was afraid he might jinx it. He REALLY seems to want to do this. I think it would be some fabulous pre-promo for his album. Is there a tour schedule for Queen? I looked and couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t find one.

Yes. I LOVE Adam’s personality and sarcastic sense of humor!!

  • KrisAllen1

Mac I didnt catch the techno thing.I really want to buy Adam’s record.I never heard of Pop/Dance/Rock/Techno as a genre.I feel like it would be awakard.
I hope it all works out.19E can take over Adam and not let him control if he
keeps on going back and forth.I just want a plain simple answer. On every
talkshow its something differant.Albums that have differant genres dont
sell. Its best to stick with One type of music so people know who you are
    as a artist.

  • snood199

LMAO @ Randy: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“This whole top 10 has a shot to be hugely successful.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Really Randy??? Methinks you need to get your hearing checked. Pronto.

    Well, in my humble opinion…
Michael Sarver (10)- No. If he gets really lucky, a minor country hit.
Megan Joy (9)- No. People say ADAM is too weird for the mainstream?
Scott MacIntyre (8)- No. He may have a future as a pianist if he ever shuts up, but not as a “hugely successful” recording artist.
Lil Rounds (T-7)- Maybe. She has the voice but no clue what to do with it, so if she gets a good producer a decent album could result.
Anoop Desai (T-7)- More likely than Lil, still maybe. He seems to have his share of fans.
Matt Giraud (5)- I wouldn’t listen to it, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he was successful. To me he kind of sounds like the stuff on popular radio, but I don’t listen to pop radio much so I could be off here.
Allison Iraheta (4)- Probably. She has a great but different voice. I think if she and Adam do a duet on their first albums it could really help her. But I think/hope she’ll be a good rock singer for a long time anyway.
Danny Gokey (3)- If he didn’t kill his voice on AI (I hope it’s ok, but Scream On was painful to more than just the ears) he can find a place in gospel/Christian music.
Adam Lambert (2)- Most superstar potential, I think. From what I see on the internet he has a lot of fans who will line up to buy whatever weird genre mashup he puts out. I hope and think he’ll be very successful.
Kris Allen (1)- Safe pick. Since the AI machine is behind him, his first album and singles will almost certainly sell. Not my favorite cup of tea but I think he’s a good enough singer and musician to stick around afterward.

So I have to agree with jumpstart that Randy needs his ears checked, because it’ll probably only be half the Top 10 with any success.

  • Chipmunk

Bootstar my guess is they dont want Kris to sing just interview. They might be afraid that if he sings NB his way people will want more interviews

I can assure you, there is no danger of that happening

  • Isaac

About the CBS Early Show taping….is the concert going to be broadcasted the same day? I’m wondering because it’s not in your official schedule list, but on my DirecTV schedule, it has Adam performing tomorrow.

Are they going to air the taping some other time? Well either way, I set up to record on my DVR. :)

  • KrisAllen1

Randy cant say right there that Scott,Sarver,Gokey and Lil have no talent as much as he really should. It would of been awakard. That was a stupid question on Randy’s part.Paula and Kara would of said the same.Simon would of done the same to then on the next apperance on whatever talkshow say they all suck lol.

  • karenw

I just want a plain simple answer. On every
talkshow its something differant.Albums that have differant genres dont
sell. Its best to stick with One type of music so people know who you are

From all the interviews I’ve seen with Adam he’s said the same thing when asked what type of music he would like to do .. the pop/rock/techno/funk thing… and who’s to say he can’t do that …

.. also I tend to buy an album because I like the sound of the artist’s voice .. if they can incorporate different styles the that’s fine by me … when Adam says he would like to do something pop/rock/techno/funk .. he doesn’t mean his album with have one pop song, one rock song, one techno song etc .. he’s talking about trying to develop a new sound that can incorporate influences from many styles of music.

  • jlc

Could someone please put up a vid of tonight’s show for those of us who don’t get CNN?

    Please? :help_tb:

  • KrisAllen1

Is there a way to put Rock/Pop/Dance/Techno/Funk in a song? It sounds complicated. If anyone can make me enjoy its Adam.I dont think he could
do that though.I think he even said that he wants differant kinds of music
    on his album.

LOL, yeah. I actually agree with him on Kris, Adam, Allison and possibly Matt. The others, for me, are completely forgettable.

  • maracaibo

Just got done watching Larry King. Could Scott be any more annoying?

I know. Exactly what I felt too. He seems so clueless, like he truly believes he will become this big star when the tour is over. Scott, back to reality. You will be lucky to play in a hotel lobby after all of this is said and done. Just saying.

Adam, Kris and Matt really came over super well in this interview. IMO those three and Allison have a real shot to make it in the music business. Also Ryan asked Matt about his future album and who is he working with and he said he’s met people who are already out there who want to work with him, so we will see.
I can see Matt putting out music relevant to today. I just hope he ends up with a record deal, if not 19, with someone else. I love his recordings.
Kris is really nice, but he seem sso quiet and a bit boring at times. But that is just his personality I guess.
Adam is a rock star and I am sure he will front Queen once in a while. But he will sell like millions of albums for sure.

  • linsav

Daughtry had a few different types of songs on his first CD, Christina A. usually has a couple of songs across the genre and her CDs sell. I like everything Adam did pre-Idol and on Idol. It may be wildly different but he adds an energy to it that hooks it for me. I also love all the musical stuff. I need variety in my music, always have, and with Adam I will get it all in one performer.

And I for one would like to know what a Kris CD will end up like. He said he definitely rules out country, and loved to do stuff like Ain’t No Sunshine, but seriously will that sell a lot of CD?

  • SparklesATL

Is there a way to put Rock/Pop/Dance/Techno/Funk in a song?

I love Adam & voted for him. The thing that concerns me when he says this is, if I remember correctly, Taylor Hicks wanted to do the same thing. At any rate, Taylor’s first CD (which even he wasn’t happy with) was kinda all over the place. I never realized until then that there is an art to putting the songs on an album together in an order that lets one flow into another. Now I see why artists record lots of songs for an album and only 10 or 12 make it.

About the CBS Early Show tapingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.is the concert going to be broadcasted the same day?

My TiVo picked it up for tomorrow morning as well. For those of you with TiVo, don’t forget to set up a favorite for Adam Lambert, Kris or any of the idols you like.

  • KrisAllen1

I dont think Adam’s album willl be like Taylor Hicks but it will be differant and i feel like he should just do Dance/Pop.I feel like more than anyone Adam
needs to make a album that kicks ass since people are expecting to much.
The hype will die down if he doesnt deliver what people want. Most people
are expect Adam to come out and do rock and roll like Slash or Kiss.

Kris has said that he wants to do Pop/Rock and what did with aint no sunshine on his album repeatly.I think Kris knows what he wants to do.He’s not changing his mind. However I think other people will try and take over his
album and put stuff that isnt “Kris”.Thats his only problem.

  • http://thepopeye.blogspot.com BeckEye

Damn, if I didn’t have to work tomorrow I would totally go see Adam. It figures the show starts at the same time I have to be in. Stupid real life always getting in the way of things. :)

  • jpfan

“Daughtry had a few different types of songs on his first CD,”

I’m a fan but the major criticism of Daughtry is that everything sounds the same and everything sounds like Nickelback. I wouldn’t use him as a model for an album that features many types of genres.

In general, the trick is finding the genre that fits and then connecting with audience that likes that genre. It never works to try to break out with your own thing and create a “new type of music.” That killed Taylor and Blake.

You can’t do rock, pop, funk, dance, electronic, etc. on the same album though. It’ll just confuse people who aren’t already your hardcore fans from Idol.

  • Miss Chaos

My local channel (Tampa, Fla.,) listing showed Adam Lambert performing this morning, Tues, well I watched it for the whole 2 hours and no Adam, what’s up?

  • ShariG

Is it wrong to be really ticked off that they are interrupting Kris’s appearance on Regis and Kathy for the supreme justice appointment? Will they replay it? It came back on just as he is singing No Boundaries. I want to see the whole thing. He sounds great, just guitar and piano. I just love this kid. I stayed home from work this morning just to see this and was annoyed by the interruption.

  • ShariG

It looks like we missed the entire interview. I really hope they replay it. Kris is so natural and pleasant as always. He is just a really nice guy. I can’t believe that Simon didn’t come and congratulate Kris at all after he won. Kris said he hasn’t talked to Simon at all since the win. Glad I got to see at least a small corner of his song.

  • rockvixen

When is CBS showing Adam? Is it taped and aired today or will it be aired tomorrow or some other day?

I am so happy to be able to continue to see these guys, they do very well in interviews. Kris is the winner but Adam is the star, he just has “IT” in all the interviews, Adam is more of a leader than Kris.

I think it is so cool that Ellen couldnt wait for Adam to be on her show, she phoned him in, Adam is so easy going with all he speaks to, like Jamie Fox said, you dont care WHO I am do you? It is nice to see

When is CBS showing Adam? Is it taped and aired today or will it be aired tomorrow or some other day?

    It doesn’t air until Thursday.

From someone who went to see the Adam taping this morning:

“Hey all, freshly back from Early Show with two videos (one full performance, one rehearsal) uploading to YouTube now; will link ‘em as soon as they’re up.

The performance was spectacular (sorry you had to cut out early, briarswt! ). He basically did a quick take of a rehearsal, then did a short fairly lame/repetitive interview with Maggie Rodriguez, then went back inside while they re-shot some footage (they were having to update the show for the West Coast with the breaking news about the Supreme Court justice nomination leaking). Then he came out, signed a few autographs for people nearest the door, and sang.

He sang Mad World, and I am happy to report his voice & performance are just as unbelievably good live, outdoors, and for that matter in FREEZING cold. (I am still a bit numb and chilled an hour after getting home.) It was a lot like the studio version, and full-length; he did change up the interpretation a little bit in subtle ways, different stresses.

He was very comfortable and happy-looking, both with the crowd, with the news people (who came out to get a personal group photo with him) & interviewer. His speaking voice sounded great also. At one point he pointed to something in the crowd and said, “That’s great” but I couldn’t see what; it might have been the chibi Glambert from Rickey.org which I later spotted someone holding in that area.

The crowd was about as big as it could get in the plaza, and noisy even with all the back and forth. More women than men, mostly young women (late teens, 20s), with scattering of 30s-40s (also one “Seniors Love Adam” sign and one “Cougars Love Adam”), and also of all things a big crowd of Navy sailors. I thought maybe they were just there for the Early Show, but the show basically ended at 10 and then it was waiting for fifteen minutes before Adam sang to end the program, and they all stayed.

Anyway, it was loads of fun despite the cold. Yay for first Adam concert. *g*”

Since Adam and Kris are both slated to have TV performances for both the Today show and the Early show, and we already know that Adam taped his Early show performance, how is Kris going to be at 2 places at once?

The Today show concerts are usually live, aren’t they? And they are at the end of the 8 – 9am hour.

I hope they sing either or both of “I Will Remember You” and “We are the Champions”! as well as solo performances!

I am confused. Is the Early Show with Adam and the Today show both being shown on Thursday. How in the world does that happen? Also he is on the other Mike and Juliet show on Thursday? Can someone clarify this for me?

Rickey says on his blog that Kris’ Early show taping will be on TV Friday.

But I don’t know when he’s going to be able to tape both in one day. Unless Kris tapes his Early show from 7-8am since Today Show concerts are usually from 8:30am – 9am.
