Scott MacIntyre On Nixed ‹American Idol Finale Duet With Matt Giraud: ‹Perhaps Tatiana & Bikini Girl Were More Important After All

Former …American Idol hopeful Scott MacIntyre ‘ who finished in 8th place on the FOX reality competition ‘ is not happy his planned duet with fellow contestant Matt Giraud was scrapped just hours before Wednesday finale.

…Out of the blue about 9:30 AM [we] found out the duet had been cut and the decision was final. Needless to say, I was shocked. ‹American Idol had originally invited Billy Joel himself to perform with us, but he was unable to make it in the end; and because our duet was the only duet not involving another celebrity, it was the first thing to be cut when the show was condensed,

A rep for Billy Joel said the piano man …was never offered to duet with Scott, despite MacIntyre blog post. She added that Billy Joel also …never agreed to appear on ‹Idol.ƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

‹Idol Strives to Sustain Its High Note

LOS ANGELES ‘ The confetti had not yet stopped falling in the Nokia Theater here on Wednesday night when the conspiracy theories began to emerge: The producers of …American Idol wanted Kris Allen to win. The vote was rigged. Fox was determined to have a fresh-faced, heartland-appropriate, eyelinerless Idol as the public face of the most popular series on television.

So too did the requiem begin for …American Idol. The ratings were the lowest in the show history for a finale, the headlines read. The experiment of adding a fourth judge was a failure, critics proclaimed. Simon Cowell may be leaving the show, spelling its doom.

More Idol Headlines after the JUMP…

The Week That Was

Simon Cowell didn’t get the ending he wanted, but American Idol sure did.

Watching Wednesday’s extravaganza at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles made that crystal clear. Kris Allen took home the Season 8 crown, but Idol achieved its main goal: getting Adam Lambert in the finale. Perceived to be the front-runner from the start, Adam actually faced an uphill battle all along. His polarizing style, the producers’ blantant favoritism and the judges’ effusive praise meant he didn’t stand a chance in a head-to-head matchup with Kris — or Danny Gokey or Allison Iraheta, had either of them ended up in the Top 2. Kris had been gaining momentum throughout the finals; Adam peaked weeks ago. Still, Adam’s considerable talent and passionate fan base carried him to the finale. And as it turned out, Idol got to showcase two incredibly gifted but completely different artists.

‘American Idol’ champ Kris Allen wants Grammys, but will he get them?

After pulling off a shockeroo upset on “American Idol” over Adam Lambert, Kris Allen said, “The only thing I want to do is to be respected in the music industry and my music be respected. Whether that means selling albums or winning Grammys or just people liking your music ‘ that’s all I really want to do.”

So far, only two of “American Idol’s” eight champs have grabbed Grammys. Carrie Underwood won one of that award’s four highest honors ‘ best new artist (she’s the only “Idol” contestant ever nominated in that race) ‘ plus three trophies in the country categories. Kelly Clarkson has won two in the pop field.

Among “Idol” losers, seventh-place contestant Jennifer Hudson won a Grammy in February for best R&B album for her eponymous disc. Of course, she also has an Oscar, Golden Globes and slew of other golden statuettes.

Kris Allen — Name That Thong

What a difference a few months makes — now Kris Allen is your “American Idol, ” but last year he was just a guy from Arkansas asking for a pink thong.

TMZ dug up Kris and his wife Katy’s online Target wedding registry, and hidden among the saucepans and the cutlery sets is a request for one pink thong — an “angel pink mesh” thong to be exact.

Looks like the plan paid off — they only requested one, but were given two.

Nigel Lythgoe: Sorry for “Stupid” Comments Against Same-Sex Dance Pair

Nigel Lythgoe has apologized to GLAAD and his Twitter followers after making comments against a same-sex dance pair on Thursday night’s So You Think You Can Dance premiere.

The judge sparked outrage — including a boycott campaign from GLAAD — after he told male partners Misha Belfer and Mitchel Kibel: “I think you will probably alienate a lot of our audience. I mean, we’ve always had the guys dance together on the show, but they’ve never really done it in each other’s arms before.”

Stars are giving back to wounded war heroes

Singers Vince Gill and Amy Grant are giving back in a big way. The country couple will host a star-studded event to benefit wounded veterans.

The concert, which takes place June 8 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., marks the launch of Challenge America, a national initiative to support new and existing programs for disabled veterans.

”What they want is to return to normalcy, and that involves three things: a job, a home and an ability to recreate with your family, ” Grant told People.com about U.S. servicemen who are returning home from war.

‘There’s nothing about a job that goes, `Woohoo!’ But you get a young man who comes home totally different, and you give him some kind of freedom through sports and he goes, ‘I can find myself again. It’s different, but I can rebuild a life.’ ” Grant and her hubby will be joined onstage by Melinda Doolittle, Darius Rucker, Michael McDonald and Allison Krauss.
