Idol Headlines for 2/16/13

Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Peta Murgatroyd, Dancing With the Stars Pros, Split – Looks like Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd are saving their last dances for other people. After dating for 10 months, the Dancing With the Stars pros have gone their separate ways, sources confirm to Us Weekly exclusively. Insiders say Chmerkovskiy ended the romance two weeks before Valentine’s Day — and one week before New York Fashion Week, where he was spotted hanging out with other girls. The reason? “He wasn’t feeling her anymore,” a source says of the notoriously hot-tempered dancer, who was previously engaged to fellow pro Karina Smirnoff. (He was also linked to his Season 10 partner, sportscaster Erin Andrews.) Murgatroyd, for her part, “didn’t want it to end,” another insider tells Us. “It will be very heated between them when the [new] season starts in a few weeks.” – Read more at US Magazine

Catching Up With Casey James: The Reality Rocks Interview – Casey James has become one of the biggest success stories from “American Idol’s” otherwise troubled ninth season, signing to Sony Nashville; touring across the nation with the likes of Sugarland; and being embraced by the Nashville community, just like fellow non-winner country Idols Kellie Pickler, Bucky Covington, and Josh Gracin. Last year, the guitar-shredding Texas rocker released his self-titled debut album, and he has been touring nonstop pretty much ever since. So when Casey’s never-ending road travels took him through Los Angeles recently, naturally he stopped by Yahoo! Music headquarters to fill Reality Rocks in on what he’s been up to, how far he’s come since he competed on “Idol” three years ago, and what’s in store for him in 2013. – Read more at Yahoo

Carrie Underwood Blasts Through Colorado for Sold Out Blown Away Tour Shows – Exclusive Pictures – Carrie Underwood‘s husband may have gotten her roses for Valentine’s Day, but there’s no way that gesture — no matter how many chocolates were included — could surpass the sweetness of a packed room of screaming fans on the singer’s Blown Away Tour. The wildly successful run rolled through Colorado for two back-to-back sold out shows this week, including this one on Feb. 13 in Colorado Springs, where Taste of Country contributing photographer Joshua Lowe had a front row seat. Lowe reports that Underwood, along with tour partner Hunter Hayes, put on a passionate and energetic performance, which delighted the crowd. Obviously, the ‘Two Black Cadillacs’ singer made for a hot pre-Valentine’s Day date for those in attendance. Couldn’t be there? Don’t fret — Lowe has made these photos available exclusively to Taste of Country readers for your enjoyment. – Read more at Taste of Country

Hey. We Really Needed to See Mariah Carey Prepare for Valentines Date with Nick Cannon.

Well. Not really. Mariah tweeted her entire ritual, including bubble bath, a pre-night on the town photo with hubby and smooching on a carriage ride (poor horsies). You can see more at Zap2iT.

Halien, Yanni5 posted the audio from the Caley show in LA last night for those who are jonesing for a Reinhart/Abrams colab…

They sing L.O.V.E and Hit the Road Jack with some sweet scatting and harmonies… and Haley raps for a second time on “Oh My” (although, since I was there, her Lollapalooza rap was more fun B) )

    Dang you Maks.
Peta , don’t worry, you can do so much better than him.

Some men were just not made to be married.  Maksim Chmerkovskiy may always have that wondering eye and women need to beware.  He’s a hunka hunka burning love, but is it worth getting hurt?

Scotty and CeeLo share the cover of the Atlantic City press…

Coming down the home stretch for the album.
     -Can’t wait for new music!!

    James Durbin ?@DurbinRock
Preparing for another 2 week writing trip to LA. Getting down to the wire on songs, then back to Nashville to record everything!! #inkjames

  • justmefornow

“At The Shore” is the entertainment supplement for the Atlantic City Press that prints once a week, not the actual paper ( I used to work for them, lol).
But it does focus strictly on entertainment in and around AC, so good for Scotty making the cover!

  • irockhard

Freaking finally! I’m going nuts here!!!

  • irockhard

    James Durbin ?@DurbinRock
**SPOILER ALERT!! Santa Cruz show being rescheduled as we speak!! Keep your eyes and ears alert

  • justmefornow

Hope he has some tour dates planned for my area, I’m dying to see him live again!

  • irockhard

I hope so for you too. And I hope they’ll send him overseas this era.

The lead up to the album appears to be free of delays so far, let’s hope it stays that way.

  • justmefornow

I do wonder how Blake and Jeff feel about these last set of songs, apparently written by James and Scott Stevens, without any input as James’ band mates?
The band had already recorded what was it 25 songs in Nashville last fall, and now will record another 10 maybe? I wonder if a harder sound direction was the reason for the additional songs?

  • Caro3278sweet

Hey. We Really Needed to See Mariah Carey Prepare for Valentines Date with Nick Cannon.
    Well. Not really.

This strikes me as sad. And one of the many reasons I’m glad I’m not a celebrity. Can you imagine the kind of overwhelming need to stay in the public eye that you feel compelled to share such a personal evening?
    Sad. Really sad.

  • Caro3278sweet

Nice interview with Lindsey Parker and CaseyJ. Thanks for posting, MJ

What I found most interesting was CJ’s plans for 2013. He is already preparing for the next album. Not a hint or pause or “well, we’re still talking with the label” blah blah blah. Nope. Just complete excitement. He’s already writing with some of the big writers he wrote with last time. And he’s already discussing concepts with producer Chris Lindsay.

I’d say that Sony seems to be on board. Rah.

I also like his talk of direction. Stripped down. More like his live concerts. Incipit might be pleased with the new direction. I am.

  • irockhard

I dunno, he did work with hard rock folks in Nashville too – James Michael, Blair Daly, can’t remember who else. And as far as I know James Michael is still producing the album. He said in one of his live chats that he had 20-25 songs done and wanted to get another 10-15 done so from what I can tell there hasn’t been any change. And he played the songs from the Nashville sessions at his StageIt show so it doesn’t look like those songs were shelved and he started from scratch after leaving Nashville. James is a solo rocker not a band and this is his album not theirs (him + Blake & Jeff) so Blake and Jeff don’t have equal say and I’m sure they know where they stand. So in the end James will have 30-40 songs to work with, and in the studio he, Blake, Jeff, and James Michael (and maybe the new bassist) will figure out how to form a cohesive whole both in sound and subject matter.

  • lisa

great interview with CJ wishing him much success.still my favorite idol of all time.

  • roarpen

I’m so very curious about the direction of the album and what their touring plans are. It sounds like they will be finished recording and choose songs for the record before they get to tour and gauge audience reaction.
But all I can say is FINALLY!

  • justmefornow

You’re probably right about Jeff and Blake, this could have been the sticking point with Dylan, who knows.
30+ songs sounds good, lots to choose from. I wonder when he’ll finally “officially” introduce the new bassist?

  • irockhard

They’ll record the master and send it to Wind-up then Wind-up makes the final decision of which songs make the cut and which song will be the lead single. In the meantime Wind-up can send them out on tour while they prepare the album for release, possibly with the lead single to promote.

Heh. How did I miss this!? Eh, I know, because it was LP. This news sounds great, Caro3278sweet. If it happens, and we get music more like the live concerts on the sophomore album, I know a bunch of other folks besides me who will buy it who just couldn’t do the first one. Waiting to hear.

  • girlygirltoo

I’m not sure she is actually going. She’s telling other people to go to the show :)

“………….then Wind-up makes the final decision of which songs make the cut and which song will be the lead single.”
Wondering if there’s a collective “group” from WU that decides all this or only 1 or 2 people.  Just like Crawling Home/Liberate becoming extras only on #1 & they were excellent songs also.  Wouldn’t have changed the album for the world & I guess decisions have to be made even when great songs remain behind.  Good news that CH likely will be on #2.  Don’t want to get a discussion going on single selection b/c much of that winds up (ha to the term) being a diff compromise when fans pick a fav on polls, etc, but you’d hope WU would consider James choice AND run them past a group of maybe fans also to decide.
“….I wonder if a harder sound direction was the reason for the additional songs?”
My 2 cent-thinking is that other co-writes need be there also to interest the public in buying an album.  “A few good men more” needed to make it different & talked about?  It kind of “bothers” (J.Fallon’s agitated Robert Pattinson bit, lol) that we won’t get our hands on what they’ll be cutting.  How greedy is that?

  • irockhard

We have not heard a single recorded track yet so we couldn’t discuss singles even if we wanted to. I hope Wind-up looks back on the first era to see what worked and what didn’t and base their decisions on that. The good thing is James has had a hand in writing almost every song this time, and on MOABD those were the best songs.

THE DANCE  Scotty with Sarah Darling at the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City last night

  • justmefornow

I agree about co-writes perhaps making the album more interesting the way some guest performances on albums can help as well.
The Scott Stevens co-writes are nice timing too since Halestorm just won a Grammy for Hard Rock/Metal performance.

Let’s just hope they pick the right single this time, no more LMB type songs!

  • DragonFly

No, album #2 single(s) talk wasn’t on my mind.

“The Scott Stevens co-writes are nice timing too since Halestorm just won a Grammy for Hard Rock/Metal performance.”

    Great for James!

  • MellyPer1692

Oh wow. Adams full cover of Stay also Underneath. Amazing audio.

  • irockhard

Halestorm won their Grammy for Love Bites, Scott didn’t co-write that song, nevertheless he’s still one of the best hard rock writers and I’m thrilled James is writing with him.

  • girlygirltoo

Closer angle of Kris covering Jealous Guy last night. After the song, he explains a little bit on why he’s doing a song request every show…

  • Miz

Oh thanks! This video of ‘Jealous Guy’ is much much better. I love that song.

  • justmefornow

He co-wrote “I Miss The Misery”, I know. Did he have any more co-writes on that album, just curious. I agree, he’s a good hard rock writer, I can’t wait to hear what they’ve been working on.

I wonder if this upcoming 2 wk trip to LA is for more writing is with him or someone else.

  • irockhard

He co-wrote Mz Hyde as well.

  • Ronnie D
  • MissMyEm

Thanks for the video of Kris Allen singing “Jealous Guy” in Portland.   You can’t go wrong with anything John Lennon.   Beautiful song.  Kris did it great.

I’m also happy for Casey James.  I never got into any individual Idol singer from Season 9 and on, but I definitely liked Casey.  My friends are gaga over him.   So I’m happy for both them and him.
