The X Factor’s Rachel Crow: I’m Singing Etta James Next (And Simon Can’t Stop Me!)

If 13-year-old X Factor contestant Rachel Crow has her way, she won’t be doing another peppy pop song next week.

Asked after Wednesday’s show if she wanted to stick to mentor Simon Cowell’s youthful, upbeat music strategy should she survive Thursday’s elimination, Crow said: “Honest? Right now, if I do make it, no.” She sang a sassier version of the Waves’ “Sunshine” on Wednesday’s show, and last week, a mash-up of Justin Bieber’s “Baby” and The Supremes’ “Where Did Our Love Go.”

The Entertainment Weekly news about Scotty performing Walk In The Country just happens to come in the issue with The Muppets cover story. Coincidence? I think not!

I really didn’t think he’d do Walk In The Country and I couldn’t be happier to have been wrong about that. It shows Mercury Nash and Scotty’s management realize how important this 1st awards show performance is for Scotty. I hope he kills it. It’d be so much fun if Keith joined him. Maybe they’ll save that for the ACMs?

EW doesn’t say anything about whether or not Keith will perform with him. Keith is already performing solo and as part of the Glen Campbell tribute so I don’t know.

The New Entertainment Weekly confirms that Scotty McCreery will
perform “Walk In The Country”, the Keith Urban tune from Clear as Day,
at the Country Music Awards on November 9. This was confirmed by the
print edition of Entertainment Weekly. Wouldn’t it be cool if Keith
    played guitar during the performance?

Wow!  How cool is that?  I’m beyond thrilled at this news.  I hope it gets to perform it with Keith as well!

  • Kirsten

The New Entertainment Weekly confirms that Scotty McCreery will perform “Walk In The Country”, the Keith Urban tune from Clear as Day, at the Country Music Awards on November 9.

Yay! I was hoping that he would sing that when it was announced that he was performing on the show. It’s often so much better to do an upbeat number on these award shows (unless you can do a stripped down version which wouldn’t work so well with TTGW). I posted back then that it would be great if he could perform that song with Keith on the show. Make it happen CMA! LOL

  • Mateja Praznik

    Wow, Simon’s trailer looks awesome.

    HOLY BAZOOKAS YES BABY YES.

I like TTWG, but WITC is one of my favorites from the album and I believe it has major potential to become a smash hit. I couldn’t be happier with this.

Thank you CMA or whoever made this possible. I wanna hug you right now. Now, bring Keith in there with him and I am a happy woman.

Awesome news about Scotty doing the Keith song on the CMAs!!  I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Keith joins him on stage, he seems to love helping out new artists.  I’m excited for this show!  Country really knows how to put on an awards show.

  • hoa_teca

In Scotty’s words, I really am pumped!!!!

The label really takes this opportunity seriously – thanks God Scotty won’t have to sing ILYTB or TTWG.

I am still rooting for a duet with Keith or at least Keith will play the guitar.

It will be hard not to release WITC to radio, especially if Scotty kills it as I suspect he will.  Well, why not?  Other singers have more than one single on radio at the same time.

  • JudyOhio

Hope Scotty comes out with guitar for WITC, been missing him with the guitar!  I’m really anxious to see this fast, uptempo performance!  Great choice of song for an award show!  (uptempo is an understatement for this tune, lol).  Hope he nails it!

  • Anonymous

“It shows Mercury Nash and Scotty’s management realize how important this 1st awards show performance is for Scotty. I hope he kills it. It’d be so much fun if Keith joined him”

Windmills. I couldn’t agree more so kudos to whoever made that decision.
Much as I like TTWG, the song just won’t work as well as WITC.

It would really be a big plus if Keith joins him — makes it all the more memorable.
BUT I am also toying with the idea of the possibility of Brad Paisley ( who is also a guitar killer)  joining him……And why not?! They will tour together next year and what better way to start the promo going.

    Just watched the VH1 thing.
    Good, not great.
(A little too early in the morning for you James?)

BTW, never saw the show before, but is it me or is that host Carrie
    REALLY ANNOYING?!

  • Anonymous

Yes, annoying. :) I’ve never watched anything on VH1 before, let alone that early in the morning, but I watched. James just seems uncomfortable in interviews with touchy women. He was so serious, and though I still think his voice is amazing, it was pretty subdued for James.

Still like the song, still like the Durb. Still want to see the video, and get that album!

Edit: I just checked James’ Twitter and some cute ‘n crazy pics from the VH1 studio – now why didn’t we get that live on the show?!

2nd Edit: Will be curious re: iTunes to see if the appearance makes any difference. Right now the song is #21 and album #15 (iTunes Rock) (album #86 All Music)

Where’s the announcement about Kellie and Lauren will present together? I thought the article said they will present the award, but no mention they’ll appear together. If it’s true, it would gonna be hilarious. They both have cute and big personalities. I love them..

So excited about Scotty’s performing WITC at the CMAs!!!!  I very much agree that it shows the label is behind him and they made a good decision here!

As far as presenting at the CMAs, I would be very surprised if it’s not Scotty and Lauren together since they’re paired together in most people’s minds, but who knows?  Scotty not performing his single shows they can think outside the box:)

I’m guessing this means that Walk in the Country is Scotty’s next single? I can’t think of any other reason why he’s sing that and not his current single, anyway.

  • ptebwwong

I’m really glad that Scotty will perform WITC at the CMA’s. It shows that management knows that Scotty needs to make a impression on the viewers which he is less likely to do with TTWG. I’m hoping that he will perform with Keith. CMA’s are notorious for doing a lot of guest performances & collaborations so I wouldn’t be shocked.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YYRRCZL5KSSZAHDXW26V5DXFYM indigo

Adam in London, Wow, he is full of surprises and not giving out too much info.  I like to be surprised but anticipation is killing me. Thrilling to be Adam Lambert fan for sure.

  • CindyM

Is there video of James performance on VH1 yet? I missed it and am interested to see the performance. Was it acoustic?

  • Anonymous

Glad for Kellie and Lauren to be presenting.
Nice that Scotty will not be doing TTWG’s I wish him a great performance with
    WITC.

  • Blower

I’m guessing this means that Walk in the Country is Scotty’s next
single? I can’t think of any other reason why he’s sing that and not his
    current single, anyway.

    I thought so too.

Does it means they’ll release Walk in the Country real soon? I think Scotty better to perform TTWG . I mean, It’s his current single and needs public audiences recognize his single with this huge event.

  • Mateja Praznik

It would be stupid to switch single now. TTWG is #31 and climbing on the radio.

  • Anonymous

From some pictures on Twitter it was accoustic.

I am also interested in seeing James video too, but VH1 is not available in Canada so I can only hope that someone will be kind enough to put it on Youtube for fans who cannot watch it.

  • Anonymous

I hope Adam being in London now means some press over the weekend. Maybe some interviews or tweets? Otherwise it is going to be a loooooong wait for the EMAs. You know, Adam really keeps fans on their toes. There have been some slow times but for 2 1/2 years now he has somehow managed to keep the fans engaged and expectant for the most part. With only two significant singles and one album this is pretty amazing. I think the excellent and successful tour is greatly responsible for this because it really showcased what Adam is capable of. Very, very excited for era 2.

  • Blower

Yups, but i’m really curious why Scotty decided to perform WITC? His single still gaining spins but in ‘slower’ mode than ILYTB and he needs to make an impression with his current single.  I think WITC is 100 times better than TTWG, but it’s not his single.

  • Anonymous

Yippee!!!!!!!!!!  David A. finished filming Wait video.  Can’t WAIT to see it.  He is looking good.

Autographed copies of Glad Christmas Tidings available as of today at Deseretbookstore.com    Pleasantly surprised.  Thought they would only be available to PBS donors.  Reasonable in comparison.

  • hoa_teca

Well if he performs WITC well and makes good impact, people will check him out and of course, his current single too.

TTWG is not a bad song at all, but performing a ballad like this is less likely to leave impression as good as with WITC. Furthermore, if Keith is involved and Scotty can hold himself well along with Keith, such performance can even make headline or at least, good press for Scotty. A successful live performance at CMA will be a great opportunity for a newcomer like him.

I see no reason why he shouldn’t do WITC. Sticking to his current single maybe the norm for a newbie, but sometimes, we need to think outside the box.

  • Anonymous

It wasn’t technically acoustic, the whole band was playing. More of a stripped down version of the recording. James sounded a little strained, early hour and performance last night I guess. But you got a feeling of what they could sound like if they really let loose!
Can’t wait to hear them perform some of the heavier tracks.
    Sorry, didn’t record it.
(BTW, that is one good looking band!)

  • larc

Maybe not switch singles, but add a single and push them both.  It’s not always necessary to wait until one single starts dying before adding another, especially when there are several tracks on an album good enough to be singles.

  • Anonymous

How can the album be on iTunes chart when it’s not available for sale yet — just preorder? The official iTunes charts do NOT include preorders. So what chart are you looking at? I’m confused.

  • Anonymous

I’m guessing this means that Walk in the Country is Scotty’s next single? I can’t think of any other reason why he’s sing that and not his current single, anyway.

One reason why he might sing it is if he’s going to perform with Keith Urban.  Even if they don’t immediately release the song as Scotty’s next single, Scotty could get a lot of mileage out of performing with Urban.

  • Anonymous

it’s hard to get radio stations to play two new songs by the same singer at the same time, though. Especially if they are in the same format. Maybe if you are a big name you can do it, but even with Katy Perry or Lady Gaga or someone like that, when a new single gets pushed, the previous one usually starts to drop  on the charts — sometimes quite quickly, other times slowly but steadily.

  • Mateja Praznik

This is country, not pop. Seriously, country radio is SLOOOOOOOOOOOOW. And TTWG is only #31 and still gaining. Releasing another single now would kill TTWG and Scotty’s label surely doesn’t want all the money they put into video and promo for that song go to waste.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YYRRCZL5KSSZAHDXW26V5DXFYM indigo

I can’t wait for EMAs MTV. It will be on channel 141 on Comcast at 5PM in Houston but live streamed on Muchmusic also I am not sure. It is a big deal because of Queen tribute and lots of award presentation, they say one billion people will see it.

  • Blower

    This..

We already know Scotty can sell albums but for now the main concern is his current single and his airplay. I think this is huge opportunity to him for introducing his single to country crowd.

    ANNIEBA says:

Adam is already in the UK likely to rehearse with Queen for the EMAs.  If that’s the case, he will probably pretty much drop out of sight until Sunday.  Of course, he may continue to tease his fans with a few tweets.  ;)

  • Anonymous

Yes, it was acoustic. Very low-key for James I thought, but really nice to see the whole group together, and a good performance – not his best, but certainly not his worst! :) I haven’t checked for a video online yet – James (as well as the band) was sitting on a stool.

He posted some pics on Twitter – cute! :)

    http://yfrog.com/gz83266996j

  • hoa_teca

They will not release a new single soon. The label is still pushing TTWG. It has been selling much better with new video and spin.

My guess is they just want to make a really good impression with Scotty’s first CMA performance – which may lead to good things afterwards. If you are a casual country fan watching CMA, seeing Scotty rocking out the stage with WITC (possible with Kieth joining him too), maybe you will be curious enough to check him out. With TTWG, there’s less possibility this may happen.

It’s time for Xmas now. I doubt a new single is underway.

  • mmb

I doubt there is going to be much rehearsal for the queen tribute ( if that is what Adam is doing at the EMAs-hope so!). These things are usually thrown together quickly with only a day/few hours if rehearsal time with all participants. It does appear that he will be doing some other promo while in London tho, since apparently he will still be there into next week and has already been scheduled for at least one thing. I would suspect that the label/mgmt has some stuff lined up if he is going to be there for almost a week. Maybe he will be recording some more- who knows

Once Scotty has performed WITC at the CMAs, the genie will be out of the bottle.  The song could take on a life of its own whether Mercury Nash releases it to radio or not.  Of course, the label may not have had a choice.  A condition of Scotty’s performance could have been that he do an uptempo song, maybe WITC specifically.

  • Anonymous

They’re looking to find Scotty a chance to have a ‘big moment’ and let everyone know that he’s fully arrived.  Doing WITC, especially if KU joins him on a duo, will get everyone’s attention.  They’re not abandoning TTWG.  They’re simply going with the performance that will get the biggest bang for the buck.

Hey, could this mean they may switch gears and pull TTWG and promote WITC to radio?

  • http://twitter.com/TylerWV TylerWV

I think Scotty doing WITC almost guarantees Keith will be joining him or why do it?  It will give him more cred with the establishment if Keith does and more attention from casual viewers.  Otherwise, I don’t think the lable would waste an opportunity to push his single up a few notches.  Ive seen country singers do songs on the awards shows other then their current singles but its not the norm.

Wordnerdarchie, that Q96.1 interview with DavidC was cool – and it was excellent that the station put it up on youtube!

My word, he was in a snarky mood, with his deadpan delivery – some of those answers cracked me up. The “rumors”? The bus name? ‘Ellie Mae”?

“Ellie Mae is a good woman, she gets us where we need to go.”

And a nice little crumb about Analog Heart in the SheKnows Q&A, thanks, mj –  - “The entire record before Idol was all about one girl, but it’s not a very nice record.”

Informative and entertaining, both of those items.

  • http://twitter.com/ljrTR LJR

you said it, Incipit – loved the little print article about Cookie, and also the video from that station. David is always – always – entertaining in interviews. one of the many reasons I still follow him & not just his music. also found the tidbit about Analog Heart very intriguing.

  • iani

“The entire record before Idol was all about one girl, but it’s not a very nice record.”

“Liar, liar, heart on fire”, the Analog Heart album is great no matter how the girl was, at least she gave good inspirational moments for the songs.

  • Incipit

“…always – always – entertaining in interviews. one of the many reasons I still follow him & not just his music. also found the tidbit about Analog Heart very intriguing.”

Heh. I could just say ‘ditto’ to that, LJR. Somewhere recently I came across the answer that ”every song but one” on Analog Heart was about the same girl, but I don’t have a cite for it…I suppose that would be  ”A Daily AntheM”? But with David, there are always layers.

    Keeps things interesting, ya know?

I didn’t watch Season 10 so here is a totally unbiased opinion…he sounded very strained to my ears. I hope it was just the early morning hour…I know my voice isn’t at it’s best at that time. I sound much better singing in my car driving home after work LOL

I would love to see a duet with lauren and scotty again someday.

I think Scotty and lauren do the best duets ever!!! They had something magical when they sang together.    even though they do fine on their own.
